    ALL PEOPLE WITH AUTISM ARE NEURODIVERGENT, BUT NOT ALL NEURODIVERGENT PEOPLE HAVE AUTISM!!!! Things that are considered neurodivergent are ADHD, developmental speech disorders, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, dysnomia, intellectual disability, Tourette syndrome, bipolarity, and schizoaffective disorder. There are so many more, but just because you don't have autism doesn't mean you aren't neurodivergent.

      Right! I have OCD and I'm going to get checked out for ADHD and Autism sometime this year. Only my mom and close family members understand this though in terms of my situation. When I bring neurodiversity into conversations to people like my teachers because of concerns/extra questions, they usually tell me it's just me being hormonal. I get that I'm a teenager, but that doesn't mean everything about me is because of puberty.

      Fun fact! There are actually different categories of executive functions (the exact number differs depending on how you slice it but I learned that there were 5)
      The one people seem to most often refer to when they say “Executive Dysfunction” is “Activation”. That is, the spark that signals to your brain that it will now begin a task. (This can feel like yelling at your brain to get up and do a specific thing, but you just Can’t Start)
      The second most common usage I’ve observed is when referring to the “organization and prioritization” of tasks. (This often seems to present as being unable to figure out what specific task or part of a task to start with)
      Other Executive Functions include the regulation and control of Working Memory, maintaining Focus, Emotional regulation, Impulse regulation, and sustaining Effort

    • @legoduckie
      @legoduckie 3 года назад +6

      I’ve found it useful to map out to myself which Executive Functions I’m better at than others.
      For example I am about an 8/10 at regulating my impulses, but a 3/10 in Activation. It just helps me understand my brain a little better

    In the late 1800s mother's wouldn't want to breast feed their babies so instead they would bottle feed their babies with "formula". The formula was actually just some assortment of flour, so malnutrition was one of the common ways for babies to die. Also it was really common for people to boil themselves in their tub because of the tubs design with was just a fire place under the metal. And the common structure of stairs wasn't formed until this time because servants kept falling and breaking bones or dying. That's why when you go into really old houses their stairs and either be too short or too tall with wide or narrow platforms.

      i was thinking the same thing as the person above me. i don't necessarily think that those relationships described in the tiktok are bad. they serve their own purpose in our lives and it's good! and just because you're nt doesn't mean your relationships are all shallow, necessarily. i think... nd people often approach relationships a bit differently- for example, i have extremely limited social energy, so the relationships i tend to maintain are really just my "best" friends (when it comes to friendships). but an nt person might be more capable of having a lot of friends, and this difference in energy might affect what relationships we choose to keep. it's kind of like... i have to strip it down to the essentials, but someone else may not need to.
      i think the person in that tiktok just has a very specific view of the nt people around them. the way many (not all) neurotypicals go about relationships can be sometimes quite confusing to us nds, but i think it's mainly just misunderstanding based in our differences in how we function.
      i don't know if any of that made sense, haha, but basically tl;dr: just because you're nt doesn't mean your relationships are all shallow! and even if you do have many friendships that match the description in the tiktok, that doesn't mean those friendships aren't worth anything. i hope you have a lovely day!

      differing degrees of friendship are totally normal, even for neurodivergent people. some of my closest ride-or-die friends are nt, some of my most “distant” friendships are also on the spectrum. i’m sorry their careless words hurt you!

    Wait, you don’t go back in personality tests to put in other answers you strongly wanted to chose but there was another one that you also wanted to chose so you took it like 2-4 times to change and make sure you got everything you wanted down? Huh.

    ABOUT SHOWER CHAIRS!!
    so like im physically disabled and have one. but i also have like people who shower in my bathroom that arent disabled right?
    And like. Even for them, the shower experience WITH a chair is so much better. Like chairs for showering are just good and you dont have to even HAVE a reason to have one. Like my friend who bought a shower chair for himself even though he doesnt "need" it. He bought because its Nice to have and it makes showering feel better. Like. You ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE STUFF BECAUSE IT FEELS NICER even if you genuinely dont need it.
    Another example: i have a conditioner for clothes. Do i need it? No i can live without it just fine. But does it feel nice to have clothes that smell real good? YES. and its a reason enough

    8:59 DID YOU KNOW THAT FRANK IERO TOOK ALL THE CRAYONS FROM A BOX AND WALKED AROUND TRADING THEM OUT FOR BLACK CRAYONS SO GERARD COULD HAVE A BOX FILLED WITH ONLY BLACK CRAYONS?
    DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT ONE OF THE FIRST MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE SHOWS WAS AT A PLACE CALLED THE LOOP LOUNGE AND NADA SURF POPULAR WAS ALSO PLAYING THERE?
    OR WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE SONG "LEGEND" FROM TWENTY ONE PILOTS WAS WRITTEN ABOUT TYLER'S GRANDFATHER
    AND THAT FRANK IERO CALLED CENTIPEDES "THE WORMS WITH THE LEGS THING"

    ... So I have always wondered why I had to look at people's mouths when they talk and also why talking in front of a mirror or seeing my mouth as I talked on camera was something I hated because I could see that the way my mouth moved was wayyyyy different from how, for example, my sister's moved. I understand now!!! I believe I am on the spectrum for autism and I see how it has been throughout my entire life now that I look back with all of this information. Your videos have really helped me on this journey of discovering what makes me different from "normal" people. Thank you 💖💛💖💛

    The one about friendships omg: I was trying to describe to my mom my relationship to this girl I who have a few classes with and talk to every day about random stuff, and my mom was like “so she’s your friend” and i just kinda nodded like “yea I guess I could call her that” but in my head I was like “we don’t talk outside of the classes we have together. We don’t do things together out of school time. If I were to rattle off a list of 20 of my friends, a) I probably couldn’t and b) her name probably wouldn’t come up.” Idk I have a more selective viewing of friendship ig

    To answer the salt question pretzelquestion. Water. You spay the pretzel lightly which makes it sticky a little bit and the salt sticks and gently fuses to the pretzel then the water dries in the warmer

    My shower chair is the best $45 I ever spent. It's gotten me through 7 surgeries, letting me shower a week before I would've been able to stand for long enough. Plus countless low energy days from my chronic illness and executive dysfunction. Can't recommend it enough.

  • @thewolfofthestars1847
    @thewolfofthestars1847 3 года назад

    Another metaphor I've heard for executive dysfunction goes like this: say you want to bake a cake. So you get all the ingredients together, mix everything up, pour the batter into the pan, stick it into the oven... But there's no way to turn the oven on. There's no button, no switch, nothing. You know exactly how to bake the cake, you know all the steps and are physically capable of following them, but if the oven won't turn on then there is no way you're going to be able to bake that cake. And no amount of yelling at the oven will make a button appear.

    i believe salt stays on pretzels because the people making them apply a thin layer of raw egg before the salt, and then when it cooks it dries and holds on the salt !! at least that's how my sister does it ^^
    i do this for candied violets as well, to make the sugar stay + help it dry better

    The "my mom keeps telling me I have a lot of anxiety" is basically me during the latter half of quarantine in which things started getting worse on a familial level. I literally thought I was fine, but my mom was like: "No you're not" and finally referred me to a psychologist again after years of me keeping quiet and lying to get out fast because I thought if I felt I needed to go back I was wasting their money for "not healing quick enough".
    Also, the whole "wasting my parents' money" thing I mentioned earlier is something I've always been worried about and IDK if that's a hypersensitivity/ND thing or a "my parents always told me that money didn't come from trees so I spent my whole childhood worried about it when in reality we were perfectly fine" thing

    4:02 This was really helpful for me. I have really bad hearing and I've been hard of hearing all my life (I had corrective surely but it didn't work), but recently I went to the audiologist and I got a normal audiogram so I'm convincing myself slowly that I both don't need and am not allowed to use the accessibility stuff on my phone that I use to hear. Sometimes it's helpful to remember that I can use something if it helps me, even if it was originally designed for disabled people.
