- You know what?! This is actually so much better than what I was anticipating?! Like the chorus in the teasers surely made me question things, I'm not even gonna lie; I did end up with it being stuck in my head thanks to seeing all the teasers but it did eventually grow on me (only after seeing the MV). That said though?! The rest of the song, especially the intro and the rap trio parts?! HELLO?! Impeccable! I found the outro to be slightly too loud but it might be my airpods. I loved how they set the tone almost directly with the more cold and eerie atmosphere that reminds me of those old Grimm stories (which goes really well with the whole monster concept)! It's a short song yes but it's got everything in it! Never saw the rap trio coming but it works! Loved the whispering part as well! Very YG like MV but I found that this one was really cool to watch because of the details in the sets that would link to the monster concept! Which btw, I have to say, they managed to find a great balance in making this monster concept come to life without making it look corny! Overall, I am more than digging this! Even more because I can't see any other YG group doing this song!

While I understand what you are referring to regarding YG being very easy to hate on, what some of us actually are trying to say is this (which should not be confused as hate, and sadly very true still): The frustration that this has nothing to do with the girls. They did the job the best they could with what they are being given. The producer(s) it's where is at: the alleged promise of a Gen.5 concept with songs that are painfully early to mid Gen.4 kpop, at best. So irritatingly sad. For this very same reason (and just as with 'Batter up'), this song has little longevity in my personal appreciation, and I confess, I was surprised you did not find this being the case here (nothing wrong with that, just sharing my thinking). On another note, love your reactions, Gurl! 🥰

Babymonster isn't copying Blackpink, it's a group with the quality of YG. Comparisons may exist, but YG isn't to blame for maintaining its own style, YG is faithful to what we really call traditional K-pop and honestly I love it.

@@TotoSptif i may jump in, YG fan here sincr 2010. Back to your question are you not bored of YG style or way of working, the answer is no. You may find it a bit of a surprise but there are A LOT of YG fan that are loyal and still hype with their beat, their song.
To be honest, i wouldnt expect YG to come out of their zone and did something eg : Y2k or cutesy likey likey style which believe me gonna be a downfall as those are not their expertise. And of course you need to grow and be diverse and thats what im seeing here in sheesh, they still have YG blood, DNA, but with a lil mix, their own color. The real problem is that 80% of the Kpop fandom in general are children and adolescents between 10 and 20 years old... they do not have the minimum criteria to appreciate music and even worse, respect the musical taste of others... whether you like it or not, Black Pink and Baemon will always be on top and that thanks to YG's training and strategy

While it's understandable to want songs that showcase their vocal range and rap skills, not every song is meant to do that. I really enjoyed this song. YG is considering this their official debut since all 7 members are here, and I think this song did a great job at showcasing all their talents, as a true debut should. Also like you said, it gave a fresh take on the “YG sound” which either means they were already planning on doing this sound or that YG took the criticism and slightly adapted.

Ahyeon's introductory performance, I think she rap in that and in her "Dangerously" performance, she was suppose to rap but YG himself told her to change her song since the rap will overwhelm her. Chiquita is also said to be taking rap lessons, Im freaking excited for that

What I love the most about the chorus is that the girls brought ALL the energy and attitude in the choreo. Whatever was lacking in the lyrics, they made up for it with their sharp moves, facial expressions and body language. THEY ATE!

Choi Hyunsuk of TREASURE was one of the lyricists and producers of SHEESH, so that's why Asa's rap had "pedal to the metal" referring to TREASURE (JIKJIN - Chorus ending), BIGBANG and BLACKPINK (The Girls - Lisa Rap) most probably "pedal to the metal" is a reference to the YG family

actually lots of people said that when they heard the teasers they said it sounds cringey to them, not until the song came out they pre-chorus and the verses actually made the sheesh part hit hard.
I agree with what you said about the can’t win situation. When Treasure first debuted, or at least when YG was planning for their debut, he wanted them to have a youthful, bubbly concept. I remember people being quite harsh about the decision, saying YG was losing their style to follow the trends (youthful BGs are the trend at the time). Look where that got them now. They got a loyal fanbase to keep them strong and going, but I always feel like Treasure has so much potential wasted.
Perhaps that’s why treasure is slowly returning to the YG sound and core over time. They figured out if they can’t make new things work, it’s better to keep doing what they know. Personally, I think BM is different enough from BP while still possessing that YG element everyone knows of, and that is good enough imo.

Ahyeon is a good rapper she’s an ace. She rapped a lot in the evaluation. This was the real debut! Such a powerful song with highs and lows and shows their true talent. I have a theory cause yg gets hate no matter what they do. If they do something completly un yg people would hunt them saying oh you copy sm hybe or jyp. Ahyeon is the all rounder who does everything. The other 6 all specialize in 1 or 2 areas. (Asa and Ruka rap. Rami, Pharita, Chiquita, and Rora sing) But they all dance great and have stage presence.

I just like how dark oit comes across which works for the whole BabyMonster thing. Like making it soft, but also dark. Also I love the build up for it to be soft and eairy, the whispering just makes me love it more. Its very YG, but also what's wrong with that exact;y? I have been listening to k-pop for 15 years and this is YG, but also this is pushing it slightly off. The creepy parts just feel original.

Chorus - might be lacklustre assuming from the opinion of most listener as of now (but for me, it's fine).

Like many others, I also thought the song would be underwhelming, but every other part ties it all up for that 'sheesh' chorus, and now I like it!!!
Also, yes, this is a YG sounding song, but BM has many vocally powerful member that's why compared to their senior girl groups, the song has more vocal breaks than being the rap or the chorus the highlight part. I meant to say this song highlighted vocals and rap equally so it feels complete.
What you said about TREASURE is true as well, they we're bashed on early days for coming out with these YG-sounding songs and empty choruses but as they continue they are starting to solidify their sound even more.
I'm not sure if I'm reaching, but the colors that the rappers (Ruka, Asa, Ahyeon) are wearing were also the colors worn by the rappers of TREASURE when they performed G.O.A.T at MAMA-yellow, red, and blue!!!
I mean, if they are refencing or getting inspirations from senior groups, then having connections with TREASURE is not impossible especially they both have 3 rappers!! Plus, the fact that Hyunsuk participated with this one too!

The music video gave me HAUNTED MANSION vibes with the pictures on the wall at the end and the way that the music sounded in the outro. It was really catchy along with the rest of the song but the beginning also gave me the same vibes or something out of a Tim Burton movie. Either way I liked the song but LIKE THAT is more of what I was hoping that BABYMONSTER would do more of.

No matter what people have been saying about BM, I decided to stan cause holy cow that doesn't sound like a rookie group AT ALL! I absolutely agree with you. Yg coded ofc, that's why it sounds similar to BP, but i really REALLY like this song. Rami wrecked me with that voice and visuals 🥺 and I'm usually a rap line bias (which in this group may wreck me as well cause that trio ain't here to play) but she has such mesmerizing scenes. I already love these girls and wish only the best. I hope YG will give us some R&B in the next comeback to show off their vocals but so far it's heartwarming to see them finally shining and being happy with their debut. Can't wait to see their performances and hopefully people will stop hating so much on Baemon. YG kept their DNA since before BP so it makes sense they'd do the same with BM. People just like complaining when they don't like something instead of going and enjoying their favorite groups' stuff.

I have loved everything that Baby Monster has put out. It just amazes me the depth of talent just seems endless. You should have seen Ahyeon rap on the Black and white introductions and also the introduction series. She was trained YG style for 5 years in hip hop rap with the High notes for the occasional colour. The switch up to permanent High range vocalist occurred only during the last evaluation. Clearly YG decided on a change of direction to vocal centered performances which surprised the girls when their final evaluation covers were all vocals and ballads. Ahyeon did not debut which did suggest she had suffered a physical injury. The sudden change in direction to consistent High range I thought did look High risk. And sure enough she did not debut with the other girls and had to rest.
The haters on the internet are always crying about something the only thing that matters is the numbers, Nobody is doing numbers like Baby Monster right now. As far as "have I been conditioned to like this?" It sounds like you've been conditioned into thinking you aren't supposed to like it, considering the amount of times you brought up what people said on the internet. But the good thing is they weren't able to condition you and you liked a great song because it is a great song.
