    In this video I talk about how to use a back extension bench, often called a hyperextension bench to work your glutes.
    This exercise will strengthen the muscles of the mid to low back, however where it really shines is as a glute builder. When performed properly, work done on the back extension bench can build both the glutes very well, including the glute medius.
    The back extension/ hyperextension bench is a great add on to a minimalist home gym as it allows to include a quality hinge pattern to your training without having to own a barbell or a large number of plates as is the case for deadlifts.

    I usually grab to 2-10bs plates, run through 15-20 reps, drop a plate, crank out that many more, and then drop the 2nd plate and finish. Usually 2 drop sets like that in a session, a couple times a week.

    Thanks JT for all of the knowledge that you share. Never really considered the hips as all that important but I think you make a great case for training them and your lower body in this video. As a young man it is always tempting to just focus on upper body but since switching to bodyweight/calistenics only for about 6 months (formerly doing standard weight lifting bro split) I have shifted my focus to creating a more 3 dimensional body meaning focusing on strength, flexability/mobility, and cardio and not only paying attention to the superficial aspects such as appearance. Better for mental health and the nice physique will come with focusing on the entire body and all of the the aspects of conditioning and performance not just the glamourous ones. Btw hope everything in Cali gets better soon with those fires. As an east coaster I have seen the photos and video of San Fran and it looks like something out of an apocolyptic movie. Stay safe!

      We are safe, albeit with terrible air. And you are 100% right, focus on getting strong from head to toe. Muscle mass and physique will follow. And the nice thing about strong glutes is they will make you better at whatever other training or physical activities you do.

    Would really appreciate an update on your carnivore'ish diet and if you've made any more changes/any new insights etc (if you're still eating that way that is!). I am going to try 30 days carnivore in November to see if it can help with chronic fatigue syndrome, I would really love to be able to workout again... Btw fantastic physique!!

    Can you put a link to the squat rack that you leave outside please? Are you near the ocean? Wondering if salt air will ruin it

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  3 года назад

      It’s been outside in the rain for 1.5 years and only light rust. Not sure about salt water, but they are going for less than 150 so even if you only get a couple years out of it it’s not a bad deal for that price.
      I have it on my Amazon shop at Amazon.com/shop/Jerryteixeira
      It’s the cap barbell squat rack pull up bar

    Hey just some advice, is the 45 degree chair or 90 degree roman/hyperextension bench better? I want to mainly use it for strengthening the lower back. I'm decently athletic, so yeah any advice helps.

    What kind of weekly schedule do you recommend for muscle growth and strength. Fullbody 3 times pr week or split programs? I would like to have a bigger focus on legs and back.

    • @JerryTeixeira
      @JerryTeixeira  3 года назад +1

      You can program full body or split. The only drawback to full body is you will want to keep the intensity high throughout the whole session. If you are doing a lot of total sets, it ay be hard to maintain intensity throughout the while full body session

      @@JerryTeixeira when you see roman chairs at the gym they often have plates on the bottom half just to keep em from tipping over. If you're tall with a high center of gravity, it's happens every time
