Your life has adapted well to camping. And your dogs know what to do at a camp site. Thats so cool. I would never get out of the car and just let my dogs I had out. With no dogs any longer - I’m old and I am not able to walk my dogs any longer. Since I am not able to do thst I let my dogs get old and passed naturally. I haven’t had any dogs now in about 5 yrs now. I now have a cat. She’s darling and great company.
You know it’s funny but I don’t think I know your name. I know Henry is your husband now, and Ella and pearl are your dogs. I just think it’s so funny I don’t know your name. Or I knew and forgot. Old age creeping on me.

I think a dog is a great companion. Ellas breed
Is a great breed. Also thst precious pearl, is just so darling. Do you know I have been listening and watching you for a while. In fact I was watching you before you met Henry. But it was shortly thereafter you met him. I’m so happy for you both. I’ve seen your wedding and it was beautiful and very well done. I have told you before I wish I had your organizational skills. I am an old widow now. I sold my house a few yrs after he died.i just couldn’t go there any longer.

I can’t imagine my life without animals. When we travel we bring our two dogs and our two cats. I know people probably Think we are nuts, but they are a part of our family that bring so much joy, exasperation, fun, love and happiness into our lives. There is nothing like cuddling with a beloved animal when you need solace.

I understand your statement but please don't use the comparison to a pitbull!! They are the sweetest dogs and most loving. I own 3 and the stereotypes and these comments are so hurtful for the breed! 2 of my pitbulls would definitely run away and hide from any conflict and the other would only defend if it was absolutely necessary. Every single dog breed can be aggressive or protective. Hope you have a great day.

@@lydiaj3I always say of any dog, it's not always the breed. It's sad but true dogs get these reputations because people blame the wrong end of the lead. Pitballs are loving and loyal. All dogs are treated the right way xxx

I travel with my dog, Aurora. She’s a lab and, like you said with Ella, she makes me laugh when she knows I’m sad. Her favorite thing to do that makes me laugh is to chase her tail. She’ll just run herself dizzy in circles as long as I’m laughing. She also licks away my tears and uses pressure therapy when I have an anxiety attack or get upset. She LOVES living in our van and exploring the world with me! Thank you for your content, Sydney! Your dogs are precious!

the human-animal bond is so special, particularly with dogs. no, having a dog is not the same as having a human partner, but to me there is something irreplaceable about having a dog you love and who loves you back. that connection is tens of thousands of years in the making, no wonder it's so powerful

This is a great video and it’s something on my mind a lot lately. I want to start van traveling next year part time and I really don’t think my dog will be able to go. He just does not enjoy traveling in vehicles at all. He can stay at home with the rest of my family though. He’s 9, will be 10 by the time I will likely get to leave so he needs to be where his vet is and in his comfy beds. I’m thinking seriously about getting a much smaller dog to travel with me because I know I’m going to miss “Tate” so much while I’m on my excursions. He’s also the reason why I get up and get out for walks and why I I talk to people. I would be very secluded without him so I think I might need a travel companion. Tate also loves other animals so I think he’d do really well to have another canine companion around when we are here. It’s a lot to consider and this video is helpful. Thanks! Safe travels!!

That's a really good point - learn the dog's personality first!! I took my car ride-loving shepherd mix on a 7-week van trip across the US thinking it would make her whole life lol. She loved roaming free in a different place every morning but otherwise hated it. She stared at me all day, every day while I drove like "what exactly are we doing here?" She was OOZING joy when we got home and she got back to her routine. We formed such a special bond on that trip and had the best morning walks - I'm glad she was with me, but she'll stay home next time with my bf for sure 😅

Critters are awesome! I cannot have indoor critters where I currently live, so I feed the outdoor critters. About 15 squirrels, 4 bunnies, numerous chickadees, Cardinals, crows, and the occasional bluejay. I've seen deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, and opossums as well wander past my patio door looking for grub. I open my patio door and they come running for food. It's a pretty cool feeling doing my part to help, especially in the winter when it's hard for them to find food.

Sadly my own Souldog is losing his battle to cancer so I want to make sure I give him all the same love and support he’s given me!! He’s almost 13 so we’ve had quite a run me and my doofers!! I absolutely LOVE that you have dogs with you!! I live in Savannah, GA, but I’m from Traverse City, MI. Every time we go home, the dogs come too. It’s a 2 day road trip and it is TOUGH with all our crap for a week, me and the hubs, our 3 year old, and the furbebe. But it’s feasible and we make it as comfy as possible for all and it always goes so well, we’d never consider leaving the dog behind!! They adapt SO WELL, number one. And number two.. there is NOWHERE IN THE WORLD THEY WANT TO BE except right next to you. Duh. I LOVE how you’re living. I think you’re one hell of an example. Just found your channel, you have great advice! I personally don't do van life but I live alone in a very small town in Mexico in a very Mexican house rental. My last dog passed away and my new dog is a rescue (I've had her since she was 5 weeks old) while I walked her every day as a pup she is very high strung and reactive and it's damn near impossible to walk her in the neighborhood now as an adult (in rural Mexico) there's so many dogs with and without owners that roam free plus there's cats chickens cows horses etc. While I'd never part with her you're so right that a dog can sometimes be very isolating, I have found a puppy daycare that does boarding I can send her to when I need a break/vacation and she does well there and loves it lol but it's not cheap.. but I can't imagine paying for an Airbnb and a house sitter! I'm very grateful I found that place but I'm in the same situation. While I live in the Los Cabos area my house doesn't have hot water and many other amenities that would make it hard to hire a house sitter other than locals which are lovely and would do their best but most people here work 12 hour days + usually they do some education/gym/social activities and it's too long to leave her and my cat. You're spot on!

living in an rv I can relate to a majority of this! the benefit of an rv over a van is we can leave the dogs in the rv with AC on and take our car to a national park and do what we want and know they are safe. I'm sure leaving a van with 3 dogs is much more nerve-wracking that leaving an rv in an rv park. dogs are the best way to make friends in a life-style that can be pretty solo!!

This video is beneficial for my travels with my small, but very opinionated dog. She’s afraid of nothing. Her recent brawl was with a pitbull that took her around the neck and threw on the ground from my vehicle. How many ways can I say how wrong that was?!
So I do understand the reaction, aggressive, kind of soulmate in a pup.
I also related well with the part of bonding with a dog . I called her my Velcro dog she is with me for everything and knows my next move. She speaks English, or at least understands it. If I want to say something to someone and don’t want her to know yet I have to say it by spelling certain words. You’re right there are limitations with a pet, but the “pros” outweigh the “cons” for me for sure.

My little rescue is a reactive Chihuahua… I KNOW he restricts me social-wise but we both like just being with each other and he is soooooo totally different when it’s just him and I … but he sure has his triggers and becomes a little “cujo” towards people but not to other dogs! He wants to play or just be dogs around each other. But I DO have to watch very closely his clues when we are around people. The “good” sure outweighs the reactive behavior because life wouldn’t be the same without him!

Easy to adjust locations not only large and seasonal, but locally to find what suits you and your entourage/pack on a nearly daily basis using weather apps. Monitoring the weather is always wise when mobile living…

The video we didn’t know we needed! Very insightful. I’m saving for a van so I can hit the road with my senior dog and show her the good life. ❤

So love and look forward to your videos. We have a wonderful pup, but can't bring him with us on our adventures. When we leave him alone, he is a barker, and even to go out for a quick dinner without him is impossible. We don't take long trips so we aren't separated from him for long, but I do wish we could bring him. He was one of the big reasons we purchased a van - so we could bring him along. We are fortunate to have our daughter who will care for him when we travel.
I was wondering what you do about Vet visits for them? just routine checkups and routine meds.

I live in a 32 ft fifth wheel with two slide outs I do not travel because I don't have a truck to pull the trailer plus I like staying in one spot. The RV place where I live now is RV mobile home park it's on the oldest side but I'll tell you what it's a lot cheaper than the one about a little over a block away. I have a very big yard and I also have it fenced with removable fencing. It was great when I had my little dog who lived to be over 17 years old I could just open up the door and he could go outside I didn't use the RV steps I actually had them put up inside and I put cinder blocks as steps. Which are much safer than a metal step and the top part of the step right before you step into the RV. It was several cinder blocks to give me a wider porch area so I wouldn't fall off I also had to put some of these round pieces of cement up because my little dog was losing his eyesight and he fell off from the top of the step and I was afraid he would hurt himself so the area right before you step in was a good size. Last summer I had a porch made that's
8 ft long and 4ft wide. My steps are about 4 ft wide, and is enclosed with a half wall That's solid aluminum and then the upper part is just opened up and I got 3 white blinds. They can be opened up, or closed for privacy and I do have a good size platform. My porch is big enough to where I have a sitting area I actually have the bench from the bedroom out there.

Our golden doodle, Murph, LOVES traveling with us. Unfortunately while visiting my in laws in the SoCal high desert, he was taken. It was on August 18th and we still haven’t found him. It’s been so much more devastating than we even could have imagined.

I had my Golden Retriever boy, Liam , my ❤ dog for 10 years when I moved into my first home by myself many years ago and you are correct. You aren’t alone, they are funny (raised mine from a puppy). I had a huge backyard to throw the ball and run around. Met so many people on our walks. Kids loved him all over. My niece loved brushing him out and brushing his teeth. Photos of those two in the dentist office on the wall for the kids to see.
We weren’t “van-lifers” as there was no such thing back then, however. We traveled together except for one overnight when he stayed with a friend. He flew with me. I had an SUV and we went everywhere and back then it was more difficult to find dog friendly accommodations. They do help open up conversations. However mine, I swear would lick 👅 something to death if they were a burglar. Mine was alert though when we drove into the country and there were big animals in the field ( many white with black spots ) or the orange and white traffic cones or sticks. He was always wanting to “go with Mom” or “truck?”.
The ice cream shack at the end of the subdivision only open in summer months wasn’t a bark but hopeful anxiety. I am a lover of vanilla ice cream and so we would share many an ice cream 🍦. I miss my boy, the greatest fur baby. 😢

This is spot on… my puppy who ALWAYS traveled with me passed last November . Going forward I will be traveling alone because of the NP rules. Also it is safer not having the dog with me as I no longer need to walk the dog in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning

Thanks so much for this video. We live part time in our van for now (2-3 days a week for work), but I really want a dog. Fortunately, we aren’t finished with our DIY conversion so we can still find space for a crate. We had a dog for 16 1/2 years but she passed earlier this year. Your last point is very important . . . Doggies need their walks and it’s good for us to get outside too!!
