Maybe paint the electrical panel the same as the wall. It will help take the harshness of the contrasting colors away and blend with the surrounding area until you are able to decide on how to cover it.
I have the same suggestion. Paint it the wall color. It will at least blend better. The gray color against the wall color makes the electrical panel pop.
We hung a poster of the footsteps poem over ours (it’s in the laundry room) and hung with a command hook. That way it’s easy to remove if needed but when I’m doing laundry it’s a good reminder that God is always with me.
You could turn your current deck into a screened-in porch which would act as a mud room as well as a place for a deep freezer. You could extend the deck beyond that if you still wanted an open area.
You did a great job, Jessa! Your house is lovely. About the electrical panel, I bought a 24x36 wooden framed chalkboard to hang over ours. It is lightweight, if you ever need to take it down. I love it bc I can write happy birthday, holiday messages, welcome for guests, etc. It looks cheerful in our place!! God bless for a safe delivery and a happy Thanksgiving!
Jessa, your home is so beautiful! You've put so much work into remodeling it. I'd never want to move from there. Your organization skills are truly remarkable. Your white appliances are fine. Wish the companies would go back to making different colored appliances. Would be fun. Stainless steel is so boring. Always enjoy your videos. Your kids are really growing up. Best Wishes to you and Ben and family!
One thing we added to our laundry room was a donate bin. Any clothes that didn't fit or we no longer needed we just tossed it in the blue bin. Makes keeping up with current sizes easier than one big closet clean out. I love your kitchen the most!!
LOVE what you did!!! The ONLY thing I find odd is the location of the fireplace. I understand it would of been a big job to relocate it. Your home is absolutely beautiful!!
I so much trust your advice that I just bought the Narwal vacuum. Just what I need! Getting older, vacuuming is more difficult and I have two teacup Yorkies. Little paws, dark floors and always looks dirty. THANK YOU Jesse! Also, I’m Canadian but my oldest daughter works for the head office of Walmart and lives near you. I love to see how you are doing especially with your children and your faith! Perhaps we will meet in Heaven one day. I would so cherish that. 🥹
Your laundry room is a great idea, especially for large families. Your home is lovely and I’m super glad that you went with white appliances. Love the vacuum, but it’s very expensive. Works great in your home. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! 🦃💕🙏
We just replaced our stainless appliances in our kitchen with all white appliances too! Everyone who sees them are initially surprised with the white, but then always say they look great. And I don’t even have little kids- I just like the way they look.
I agree with either painting the electrical panel or hanging a long tapestry. Beautiful home & family. You look beautiful as well. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Loved your video about your house! Your home is quite lovely! Appreciate your honesty about the some of the quirks that you dont think were quite thought out or perhaps you wish y'all had done differently, I think it shows that you are a very humble young lady! Oh and I love that robot vacuum!! God Bless you and your family!
My grandpa bought my grandmother her first washer and dryer,,,,, being born in 1911 she had only ever done laundry by hand, she flat refused to use it until she was in her late 70’s. So nice kid training for me…. I can make soap and do laundry by hand….
We are on our 3rd home renovation. Each home had quirky issues like narrow hallways, reconfiguring bathrooms, and redesigning overall space, but yard and location are key! Congratulations the house is lovely!
I've followed your story for many years, you have become such a beautiful young lady. A true testimony of what grace, faith and family is. You did a beautiful job in your home btw 🤩 I loved your last video and how ya just cut that board in the parking lot, pregnant momma and a chain saw, that'a girl ❤❤❤❤❤
Jessa I LOVE that you're not afraid to let people see your house 'as is'! The laundry room looks exactly the way it should - it's doing it's job! But your house is totally gorgeous and so is the family!
You can paint your electrical panel front the same color as your wall! It nearly disappears. We used Sherwin Williams direct to metal paint and had it tinted to match. Bam!
Possibly at the sliding glass door you could put a larger rubber backed rug. It’s what I have at my front door. Keeps water and snow from making a mess on my carpet. Unfortunately yes I have carpet. Love everything you’ve done with your remodel. Can’t wait for baby #5 to arrive 💜
Yes, excellent idea, something that would absorb the extra water, at least for a short while. It would help. I’m not sure that any of us can ever build a house with absolutely everything in it that we want. We’re in our 4th brand new house since being married 51 years ago, and there are still things we would do differently lol.
The laundry closet is the best thing I have seen. Just my husband and I but if I had it to do over, I do the laundry room with kids. Love your home it is supper nice. Your kids are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Who parks their car in the garage, we do not. Our house is small, so it is a storage room basically. Great idea to use garage form living in.
We built our house and didn’t add an attached garage due to cost, but we did add a detached metal garage about 10 feet from our house. We had electric ran to it and regular garage doors added and it was a fraction of the cost…and it’s the same color as our house. We also missed having a “mud room” on the back of the house, so after about a year we added a screened porch with insulated roof panels and ceiling fans. The porch goes all across the back of the house and they’re stepping stones to the garage too. But the back porch is nice to be able to take off shoes and come in from the rain and stuff. ☺️
Laundry and bringing everything upstairs was a HUGE stressor in my life. Especially in Massachusetts with so many different weather changes and so many clothes. I changed the laundry room into a family closet a little over a year ago and it is THE BEST thing I’ve ever done. Ive always watched the show and thought it was genius when I saw your family do it, game changer. Can’t believe this isn’t a more normal practice!
My hubby built us a Monolithic Dome! While I would not want to live in a different house, it does pose a few challenges ( but what house doesn't? There will always be something.). I love that the shell of our house is Tornado, Fire and impact proof.
Put the little freezer on the deck by the house. You can build a little roof over it and sides to keep it out of the rain. Make the roof so it lifts up (and hooks onto the wall of the house. Make sure it has ventilation so it doesn’t get too hot. Or you can build a place next to the deck and put it on a cement pad with walls and a roof.
I love your home! All of it!! I envy, and we are not suppose to envy, but I do, all of your white appliances. I have spent the lsat 4 years trying to buy a white dishwasher, and only ones you can now get in white, are the cheap, noisy dishwashers. I finally found a Samsung in white, and when it got here and was installed it looks gray, I give up!! Enjoy that beautiful home. You are blessed!
Love the laundry room idea. I have elderly parents that now have their washer and dryer on first floor instead of their basement. Organizing the closet in that room with their seasonal clothes and shelves would help them a lot. Love your videos !
I so enjoy following you. I just love how you are just a regular woman. I have followed your family and family members for years and even when under attack you are a class act.❤️ Being a Christian makes you shine.
Jessa! I insisted on a family closet in my laundry room when we built our house as well!! I had a tiny one in our old farmhouse that I strung up a clothesline to hang all our clothes on to make it easier!! I remember suggesting this to my sister when she built her house and she thought me crazy but, after she lived there a while, she decided I was right and put in drawers for each of her four children and they were crammed full of their clothing and some other clothes were hung in her closet in there that had been made to store cleaning tools and supplies!! So many architects at the time made tiny laundry rooms…when you have four children, a mom spends a lot of time in there! Who wants that! I think now they are wising up and making them bigger and more functional! Yours is so nice and your whole home is beautiful!!
Jessa I absolutely 💯 % love ❤️ 😍 you're new home and I love you're designing and style ideas!! You and Ben did a fabulous job!! Enjoy you're new home 🏡!!
Your home is beautiful! As for the issue with mud, water etc. get a large mat like they have in stores (commercial grade) it will cover the whole area.
A large mat is a good option. Also you can add a couple of big plastic boxes (just like we did) where kids can put all dirty stuff right away: clothes, shoes, toys, etc.
So glad to see you back Jessa! You’re so beautiful as well as your family. God bless you and your family and may He bless the rest of your pregnancy and delivery. We all have your back here! 🙏🏼❤️
Something I learned a long time ago about a family closet, that I don't have, but makes SO much sense, especially as you hand down clothes, is a dot system on clothing labels. 1 dot for the first kid, 2 dots for the second kid, 3 dots for the 3rd and so on. It meant that you could easily just add a dot/s as it was time to pass down clothes to the next child! I love this recap! And congrats on your newest member!!! ..... (5 dots)
Clothes go in and out of fashion maybe hand me downs .when the kids were babies but not now they are getting older expecially if they go out with friends .
I have a deep freeze in my basement. No access inside house to basement closed that up to gain footage in my tiny kitchen. Now we just send someone down to access and take a picture before shopping to document the usable space. I replaced my white with stainless , my kids are grown, fridge and lost a coat closet and my daughter has all her foods as she has many allergies and this way she can stock up her own freezer and fridge thru sales and buying in bulk. Don't miss that coat closet at all. Also can put overflow beverages and produce or fermented foods in there, too. Best decisions are practical ones.
I'm so glad to see you back on RUclips. Friends of ours also had the dilemma of no garage/no mudroom. What they did was build a 2 car garage off the back of their home. So through your glass doors to the deck, build the garage with the garage door opening perpend- Icular to the left or right of the deck. Put a roof over the deck, continued over the garage. The deck now becomes your open air mudroom. Hope this helps you. Baskets for shoes, up off the floor.
I was renovating at the same time you guys were and the #1 best decision I made (and I know it’ll be a huge selling feature when/if we ever sell) is making our walk in closet “huge” lol. I did a 17’x9’ walk in and then assembled a closet system that was less than $2k. It looks like a boutique in there and it’s my favorite room of the house (and also the #1 room we get compliments and comments on). It can double as an attached nursery/office/workout space AND still function as a closet. It’s great. Worst mistake I made was not doing better flooring. We were over budget so we got some clearance laminate flooring and it’s only been a year and we really already need to replace it. Edges keep busting, etc. So don’t skimp too much on your flooring/flooring installation. We are going to try to get another year out of it but then we are ripping it up for some hardwood (what a headache that is going to be lol🙈).
I have always had wood floors and when my 4 were younger I bought water hog mats from LL Bean. They have been the absolute best and they have oversized ones!!!
Your house is beautiful, but most important a home. I am right with you on the grocery delivery. At 76 I have better things to do. I am glad you showed the workings of the Narwal. We too got rid of carpet. I will look into this.🌹
Love all your ideas! Especially the laundry room. Laundry is such a long, drawn out chore, with so many moving parts! To have everything all in one place is a game changer! 😊
First time in my life i haven't had carpet! I am trying to learn how to care for my new floor. I was today years old😂, I had no clue the robot vacuum also mops!!! So, my Mom is watching now and was amazed, she said what a great idea for me for a Christmas gift, yay!!! Thanks so much, Jessa!❤ It will even go under my couch and I love its so easy to fill/discard water, ha, sold 😊
Such an inspiration to all new homeowners, and especially homeowners with kids. I love how hands on you are and are not afraid to go outside of the box and learn. That is definitely something you had to of learned from coming from a self sufficient family. Thanks for sharing! Love your laundry closet for the fam!
Your home is so beautiful!! We were blessed to be able to design this house we're living in and while we love it, there are always little things you just didn't realize when planning. So it just goes to show, you can do it as custom as possible - and you'll still find things you want to change. I'm fine with the things I've found, just like you are with your own home. It's all about the people and the love within the walls that truly count. God bless you & your family!
Just a suggestion with the mud room idea. Because you have your deck there which is a good size you could maybe place like an over hang or something if the house doesn't already provide that. Just an area above the deck that doesn't get wet. Where the kids can take off their coats, hats, Mitts, put down umbrellas, then just take off shoes and get any snow off before coming in. Then they can just take it all and put it away quick. Then you don't have 4 right there taking everything off and snow and mud getting everywhere. At least it is left outside. Just a thought.
Your home seems well thought out. No home is perfect. You’ve done a great job and most of all it’s a place you can make sweet memories. Your yard is great too! (Last video ).
Love your videos!!!! I have moved my kids dresser into our laundry room. Can't wait to build our own place and dream and create. Love the finish on your floors!!!
Yes! The laundry room is very important when you have four kids. If you have a two story, the best thing we did was to move our laundry room upstairs. It is amazing, we take our dirty clothes off upstairs and put clean clothes on upstairs. Why haul them downstairs and then upstairs again. I never have clean laundry to fold on the couch! It has been a game changer!! Love it!!
Love your laundry room idea👍🏽 another kinda odd thing is how your front door opens in front of the fire place. Not good if you actually have a fire and forget to close the door. But beautiful home.
I get it on the mudroom, we bought a new build home after touring a bunch of different houses we settled on the one we are in, but no mudroom ugh! The other homes had them why I didn’t go for that idk, but now I sure wish I had one! Love your home❤
Hi Jessa, You’re such an amazing Mom and your home is always so beautiful and organized even with so many “little’s” happily running around and keeping you busy all day. You keep everything looking so neat, clean and cozy. Your talents for home renovations and your organizational skills are incredible. Your joyful spirit always inspires me, just seeing how you make everything so functional, loving and happy for your husband and children. I love how charming your living space is, and the sincere gratitude you have for everything you have accomplished and the ability you have for making things work well even when it’s not exactly perfect, your always making things even better by figuring things out to make it work and flow. You make me smile just watching these updates about yours and Ben’s happy home and family. Please keeping sharing, you’re always such a pleasure to watch and your children are so beautiful and blessed to have you both as their parents. God bless you always. I’m so looking forward to seeing your precious little bundle of joy. ❤
Beautiful home! A good sized rubber-backed industrial style rug, in an attractive neutral color, of course, would solve your track-in messes at the French door and would not look out of place.
I love your home. You have done am amazing job. I love how you have it decorated for Christmas. A suggestion for your freezer maybe in your laundry room? Beautiful house thank you for sharing.😊
You have a beautiful home! ❤ I'm amazed at how talented you and your family are at making your home into what you want. I love all the huge photos of your family. My favorite is the one of you and Ben in your innovative mudroom. No home is perfect. But I think yours is pretty close. As you were showing us around I could see your kids reading in the tent and coming inside from playing in the snow. When you talked about being frustrated with not having a mudroom I could relate. I didn't have one either when my kids were little. I remember getting upset. But my little kids didn't stay little. My family eventually moved. Things change over time. So hang in there. Thanks for sharing a part of your life with me. I enjoyed watching. ❤❤❤
jessa!! i just love the duggars, & the bravery y’all have for enduring all the scrutiny, yet still choosing to inspire. i just subscribed. you’re gorg:)
Hi Jessa. Wow, I think your home is beautiful! I love how fresh and bright everything looks. I think every older home has some odd things that don’t make sense. I actually can’t wait until I can remodel my kitchen, I don’t think I will ever want stainless steel again! Definitely going with white or black next time. ❤
Jessa, your home is both beautiful and practical! So many of the choices you made fall under the “work smarter not harder” idea that mommas need! We too chose light wood cabinets in our kitchen. White is beautiful, it I can’t imagine the upkeep. Looks great! ❤
I haven’t seen you in a while so it was great to see you looking so well. Your home is gorgeous and so open and airy. Congratulations on your fifth pregnancy. Love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Happy Saturday, December 2. I had the same problem with my family room. What I did was buy a cabinet door. I made a frame onto the wall. Attached the door to the frame. Then I found a picture that had 3 panels on it and I attached them to the door. I would send the pictures but don't know how. 😂
We are currently in the middle of remodeling our home that was built in the 1950's, while living in it. We are only the 2nd owners of this home and unfortunately the husband of the previous owners had passed away in the late 60's in a car accident. The wife stayed in the home till she passed a few years ago. The home was never updated after he passed. In my kitchen is the original 1950's Philco Ford stove that still works like a champ (sort of). I love the idea of the stained doors! It's something I've been contemplating for months! Also the laundry room/ closet! It makes the most sense with little kids. I love your simplistic style! Thanks for sharing!
L.L. Bean sells doormats and runners. I have one, and it is durable and is designed to hold water. I believe you can get a custom size, too. It's worth the price.
Your home is beautiful n I love the things you chose that you might change in future totally agree…I’d get a larger family picture maybe when babies born put on hinges and cover the electric box a family photo looks great there
Jessa, I love how cozy your home is. You've made so many efficient and practical choices. Love your kitchen and laundry room! With 4 children it's not easy to do. 😊
Just an idea for the future: Maybe a stackable washer/dryer and an upright freezer beside it in the same spot as the washer and dryer. You would loose the upper cabinets above your existing washer and dryer but nothing else! Just an idea!
Maybe paint the electrical panel the same as the wall. It will help take the harshness of the contrasting colors away and blend with the surrounding area until you are able to decide on how to cover it.
We hung a large canvas painting over ours, it’s hung on a command hook and it’s easy to remove to get to the panel when needed :)
Frame it out and paint the door cabinet white. What we did.
That’s exactly what I was going to say because I did the same thing and it looks so much better
You could turn your current deck into a screened-in porch which would act as a mud room as well as a place for a deep freezer. You could extend the deck beyond that if you still wanted an open area.
i thought this too . she can add a little roof extension and use the space for her freezer

Oh goodness, I chuckled at the kids watching the vacuum. What a great babysitter haha Robot vacuum for the win.
House is gorgeous! Y'all have the best and most practical laundry room I've ever seen 😍

So good to see you making RUclips videos again! So happy for your new house! Can't wait to see the new baby!
U n your family r a blessing! Your parents did a fantastic job of raising y’all.
Your laundry room is a great idea, especially for large families. Your home is lovely and I’m super glad that you went with white appliances. Love the vacuum, but it’s very expensive. Works great in your home. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! 🦃💕🙏

I keep a small freezer tucked away in an unused closet and it just fits!!
Loved your video about your house! Your home is quite lovely!
I would get a bigger rug by the back door, that way you don't have to worry about mopping up water. Everything looks great!
We don't have a mud room either but we do have a nice big back porch. We just added a roof to it and now we use that is what we kinda use now
Thank you Jessa. Great content.....please get rid of all the scammers in your comment section. Thank you.
That family closet in the laundry room is absolutely brilliant
I love everything!!!!
You could always put your freezer in your laundry room. I am sure you could rearrange it somehow.
Love love your house. I love the laundry room. And white appliances
Beautiful job Jessa. You have so many skills. All your children are so precious.
Closet in the laundry! Genius!
I love your home. Thank you for the update. I am happy to see you again.
But beautiful home.
i always like your family’s idea of the family closet.
I get it on the mudroom, we bought a new build home after touring a bunch of different houses we settled on the one we are in, but no mudroom ugh! The other homes had them why I didn’t go for that idk, but now I sure wish I had one! Love your home❤
Hi Jessa,
You’re such an amazing Mom and your home is always so beautiful and organized even with so many “little’s” happily running around and keeping you busy all day.
The portable deep freeze is ok in the room, that spot is a unused area. It's better than going outside everytime you need meat.
I love watching you and your sisters on RUclips...I've been following you since you were a young one...
Your home is beautiful, y’all done a good job maximizing your space!! God Bless🙏❤️
Hi Jessa. Wow, I think your home is beautiful! I love how fresh and bright everything looks. I think every older home has some odd things that don’t make sense. I actually can’t wait until I can remodel my kitchen, I don’t think I will ever want stainless steel again! Definitely going with white or black next time. ❤
The dark grey ones that resemble stainless steel..without the fingerprints are really nice too.
Jessa, your home is both beautiful and practical! So many of the choices you made fall under the “work smarter not harder” idea that mommas need! We too chose light wood cabinets in our kitchen. White is beautiful, it I can’t imagine the upkeep. Looks great! ❤
Jessa your house is beautiful.Thank you for sharing.
Our electrical panel is in our living room as well. I just painted it the same as the wall and it definitely not as noticable now. Love ur home!
Wish i could afford the vacuum because that would help me with keeping my floor extra clean. Wonderful home
I haven’t seen you in a while so it was great to see you looking so well. Your home is gorgeous and so open and airy. Congratulations on your fifth pregnancy. Love from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Beautiful house Jessa ❤. Thank you for sharing. God bless you and your family!
Happy Saturday, December 2. I had the same problem with my family room. What I did was buy a cabinet door. I made a frame onto the wall. Attached the door to the frame. Then I found a picture that had 3 panels on it and I attached them to the door. I would send the pictures but don't know how. 😂
I like our one car garage. No outside weather to contend with when getting in and out of car.
You always do such a great job. Your home is gorgeous but also homey and comfortable.
I think you did a wonderful job! Everything is so beautiful and has a welcoming feel.
HGTV needs to give you your own show. You are amazing!
Jana for sure needs her own diy show!!🎉
And she is so organized
Your home is beautiful n I love the things you chose that you might change in future totally agree…I’d get a larger family picture maybe when babies born put on hinges and cover the electric box a family photo looks great there
Your home is beautiful as it is. I love the open floorplan and would love to get that with mine and my husband's next home
Jessa, I love how cozy your home is. You've made so many efficient and practical choices. Love your kitchen and laundry room! With 4 children it's not easy to do. 😊
Excellent feedback on various things you like and dislike, thank you. Very nice home and very clean for having 5 kiddos. Good job.
I cant stand white cabinets bc they get so grimey looking 😅 this is a great idea!!🎉
Robot vacs are the best!
I LOVE my robo vac. It vacuums and mops and it does a great job. It has really saved my back and it's helping me to de-clutter my home.
Just an idea for the future: Maybe a stackable washer/dryer and an upright freezer beside it in the same spot as the washer and dryer. You would loose the upper cabinets above your existing washer and dryer but nothing else! Just an idea!
