  • Rethymno is a city on the northern coast of the Greek island of Crete.
it’s a bit more than an hour away from Chania and the road to get there is straight forward by the sea side.
The way there is embraced by breathtaking scenery of the mountains on one side and the deep blue of the Mediterranean on the other side. all the way.
Rethymno prefecture lies on the western side of Crete, between the prefectures of Chania and Heraklion. it’s Full of beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, Byzantine churches, gorgeous villages, and cosmopolitan resorts.
Rethymno was originally built during the Minoan civilization or the Aegean civilization in the bronze ages.
The city was prominent enough to make its own coins and maintain urban growth.
In the colourful old town, the Venetian Harbour is filled with fishing boats, lined with tavernas & shops. It’s cosy & calm. feels so welcoming and open.
In a previous visit we explored the Fortezza on the hilltop, it’s worth checking out once you’re there, is one of the best-preserved castles in Crete.
was built in the 16th-century, in the defensive core & surrounded by a huge well preserved fortress.
The town of Rethymnon was captured by the Ottoman Empire in 1646 during the Cretan War (1645-69) and they ruled it for almost three centuries.
although we only been here twice, and we haven’t gotten the chance to explore many things,
it is captivating, With it’s small and charming Venetian harbour and narrow streets.
The town has an old aristocratic appearance, with its buildings dating from the 16th century, arched doorways, stone staircases, Greek-Roman remains from the Byzantine period.
also on our bucket list visiting rethymnon during the Wine Festival which is held annually at the beginning of July, hopefully we will enjoy it soon when this pandemic is over.
Another festival is held here in memory of the destruction of the Arkadi Monastery, is held on 7-8 November.
    ………..
If you go by car, available parking nearby (both free and paid) makes it quite accessible.
Here we are, reached the parking area, the town is right across & also it’s a lovely short walk away.
Rethymnon is a proper working town of the island and not a resort, so it is lively & filled with people’s daily activities besides the leisure attractions, also the city centre is very compact that makes going around so easy.
In general it’s filled with positive vibes and inhabited by people known for their hospitality, honouring their ancestors and traditions.

This kind of video is exactly what I was looking for to find a restaurant (hidden gem) when we arrive there in September. You are also the same person that filmed Thalassino Agreri which I want to eat dinner at to watch the sunset. What time were you there to watch the sunset? Thank you for this and the other video! Daniela🌻

hey Daniela, thank you so much for appreciating my videos!... Avli is also a really nice restaurant in Rethymno too if you like check it out :)) about Thalassino Ageri sunset, in September the sun sets after 7:00 so by 8:00 it's already down and you get to see the gorgeous colors in the sky, I personally prefer to go around 7:00 to see the sun sink in the sea and to welcome the darkness of the night after this spectacular view.. I hope you enjoy 💖

Hi again, What were the prices like as they don't show them online in their menu? I worry when I don't see prices. We want to experience some great culinary meals but not all the time as they can be pricey. 🙂

..I see, I honestly don't remember the prices for this restaurant, yet in general, I find the food prices in Crete are very reasonable and affordable even in high-end restaurants you'll find items that are affordable maybe few dishes on the pricy side like Wagyu steak, for sure it will be on the expensive side 🙏🏼

The music! It’s so awful. And loud. Can’t you just let the images speak for themselves?
Music would be better if it was Greek.

thank you for your comment, you're right actually! I'm making sure to avoid adding this kind of music in future videos 🙏🏼😅
