JollyGul.com presents Pir Shams Sabzwari's "Satgur Aavyaa" recited by Mohamed (Mac) Virjee. Mac also played the harmonium.
The ginan by Pir Shams, refers to the incident where Sati Emnabai, a devout momin, heard of the arrival of her Satgur (True Guide / Pir). She figured out a way to bow down to greet her Satgur. She chose to break her pearl necklace, and in so doing, was able to bow down at the Satgur’s feet under the pretext of gathering the beads from the broken necklace. The first three verses of the ginan beautifully capture the above incident.
