- A state of emergency has been declared in New South Wales as firefighters struggle to contain the flames caused by record heat in Australia.
Strong winds and high temperatures are expected to bring flames to more populated areas, including the suburbs of Sydney.
Sky's special correspondent Alex Crawford flew over some of the worst hit areas.

I can relate I’m an Aussie and a friend that goes to my school had to evacuate his area and there was a tons of red smoke from the fire and there is a bit of smoke in my area

I was trapped in one of Victoria's biggest bushfire last week, trust me it's the scariest experience I've ever gone through, we weren't able to see the sun for 5 days because of the smoke, and it was incredibly hard to breathe. It such a tragedy seeing the devastating affects, such as burnt animals and homes

I don’t want subscribers it really doesn’t have anything to do with global warming, though. Australia has had massive fires like this before, such as Black Friday’s fires in 1939. It’s an unfortunate, however also necessary part of the country.
These fires were most likely started from dry lightning and arsonists.
