A huge thank you to Martyn, Adam, and Adam. Despite our difference of opinion, I really enjoyed this chat.
As I have said many times, opinions may differ, but they are just opinions. They do not make any of us right or wrong.

Many thanks for coming on Stu 👍👍🙏 As I’ve always said if everyone thought the same way life would perhaps be a little easier but it would certainly be a lot more boring! We appreciated a lot of your opinions and as usual changed a few of mine. Thanks again buddy!

Great episode guys; always fun to see a heated discussion between Stu and Adam 😂 I really enjoyed episode 3, but do agree that the pirate theme is being laid on a bit thick. George Lucas was criticised when the prequels came out for what were considered insensitive racial stereotyping of the Gungans, Neimoidians etc, but now it’s ok to have everyone do a kind of Johnny Depp cockney pirate 😂. I noticed that Matt’s Collection mentioned all the film styles that influenced George Lucas and are referenced in the OT, Westerns, Kurosawa, 40s sci-fi serials like Flash Gordon etc. I’m not really finding that what they’re doing with Skeleton Crew is much different and, apart from the pirates, it’s not affecting my enjoyment. Good fun episode again, good introduction for the Jod character and he alternated between comedy Depp like performance and a bit sinister, especially when he spoke with KB. The At Attin mystery deepens… I fear Martyn’s right, there is definitely something sinister going on behind the scenes, maybe the supervisor will be revealed as a Sith Lord or dare I say it … some kind of acolyte 🤢😢 Visually very impressive and great to see X-Wings… I was hoping the pilot might be Carson Teva or even Wedge 🤷🏻 The owl thing was a bit weird, didn’t immediately feel Star Wars, but then we do get Yak Face, Frog Lady, Walrus Man and the warthog headed pirate ( all very earthly based) so I guess and owl woman is ok. 7.5/10 for me… looking forward to next week.

A fair rating there Scott! Hopefully the pirate style is toned down a bit in the forthcoming episodes but all in all it’s still remained entertaining.
Thanks for watching as always 🙏🏼

Great review again Adam L, Martyn, Adam B and Stu. Some of your thoughts going forward reminded me of some of the 'conspiracy theories' from the old itv show 321! We shall (obviously) see how it all pans out over the coming weeks. Overall, I'm enjoying the show, Kym (Kim?) the owl like creature could/should have been another species. I thought as they were approaching the house that it could be Maz Kanata. In the New Jedi Order novels, there was a Jedi turned Sith character that was very birdlike (A Fosh, called Vergere) that was very important to the story arc.

    • @alongandlongtimeago
      @alongandlongtimeago  Месяц назад +1

Interesting about the birdlike character! 🤔
I (Adam) was thinking it would have been more interesting if it was Maz Kanata, but whilst we were recording last night, I couldn’t remember her name. Must be a sequels thing 😂
      Thanks for watching, Dez

Bless you gentlemen I definitely did not mean to “tell you off” 😆 but I must say I do agree with stew on about 110% of his opinion about this show. Make sure to watch my episode three review which I did last night after the show and there’s multiple points that we all make, which I think is very interesting, much respect to you guys all the friendship in the world. See you on the next one.

A poor choice of words Lak on my part! Tell you off isn’t what you did. I think for the most part the consensus on this show is in large part the same from the fan base. I will be checking your review out later today mate. Many thanks as always! 👍👍🙏

    Great episode and wonderful discussion.
I will disagree with Stu a little bit. George Lucas pulled from so many different properties (Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven, Foundation, Dune to name a few) to make Star Wars, I don't mind the creators from Skeleton Crew having nods to Stranger Things, Goonies, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, Star Tours and more to make this show.
I don't think the whole Crimson Jack name breaks any lore. That character has used three different names so far and I don't think any of them are his true name. Remember in Rebels when Ezra said his name was Jabba The Hutt? Same thing is going on here. Jude Law's character is a force wielding con man and we could find out later he's even worse in his past, but I still think he saves the day in the end.
Am I the only one who liked Khimm??? I always like to see new aliens and thought she was fun.
I've said it before but it bears repeating...these Disney+ shows are being used to expand the story of the Sequel Trilogy like George Lucas and Dave Filoni used Clone Wars to flesh out the Prequel Trilogy. How many people have forgotten how hated the Prequels were at the time of their release.
I give this episode a solid 8. I agree though that we need to start moving the plot forward...we've had enough set up.

I agree with you when you say about George Lucas pulling from other film types to help create Star Wars.
The difference being, is when I watch the original Star Wars, I don't think to myself this reminds me of a western or a samurai movie.....I just think Star Wars. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for this series as they have made it too obvious. Just my opinion.

I enjoyed it- not as much as the other two but still solid. I like that the kids (Fern especially) are questioning Jod and his motives. Khym (despite the awful name) reminded me of the Jim Henson Labyrinth and Dark Crystal puppets so fits with the 80's vibe for me- although I hate the trope of 'an old friend but I don't know if I can trust them'- how about an old friend you can trust for a change! Visuals were great, the X Wing sequence was fantastic- amazing how the Acolyte had so much more spent when this looks and feels so much more of a spectacle.

I don’t think there is anything in your review that I can say anything that differs from it. You have pretty much nailed it! Great spot with the Labyrinth and Dark Crystal nods. That’s something I didn’t spot until Stu mentioned it 👌

Oof! Episode 3 taking a beating by today's guests.... But I do agree, when you look at the show from your childhood point of view / a kids point of view, I think it is better (as that's the general audience that it's aimed for). As an adult, I'm still enjoying it, but I can tell that I'm not the target audience, which is completely fine.
I think we all know that the folks at Disney looked at many of the properties that were popular with kids from our childhood years and tried to mesh them together into something for Star Wars fans new and old to enjoy. And so far, kudos to them for hitting a lot of those notes well without being right on the nose.
I'm really fascinated with Martyn's theories as well in regards to the planet and the Sith and using it to finance the return of the Emperor and his monster fleet that we see at in TROS. 🤔
And yeah, I can see where one might feel the Owl character kind of takes you out of it a bit, but at the same time I think kids probably love that character & I didn't mind personally. But she is a little bit Harry Potter-esque, that's a fair point.
I sure hope that Crimson Jack is not in any way Jedi or ever part of the order, but just has some for sensitivity. That to me makes more sense, as in this galaxy anyone can have force sensitivity. Somebody with a little bit of force sensitivity would make for a great pirate or con man, which is how I think this one is playing out.
As for the discussion of "What is Star Wars" and is "X" content Star Wars or not Star Wars, I think that depends on the person watching. I hate to be a gatekeeper for SW in general, but I can appreciate that people have different feelings on what they feel Star Wars should be. I know I have feelings about that as I would prefer to see things closer to George Lucas Star Wars, but there are bits of content out there that GL wouldn't have put out, like Andor, that I actually love & adore. But if Star Wars is for everybody, then there should be Star Wars content aimed for different types of fans.
At our age, having seen so many films and having spent so much time breaking them down, it's hard not to watch new content without comparing it two things we've already watched. Every once in a while they'll be something new that really stands out, but a lot of the things that we (our generation) find most entertaining and enjoyable have some sort of nostalgia back to things from our past, at least that's how I feel from my perspective.
Definitely some difference of opinion for this episode in your reviews, but I applaud you guys for trying to keep it on the rails as it's easy to get sidetracked with things we've been discussing for years in regards to the franchise.
Looking forward to watching your episode 4 review soon & seeing where this show goes with the remaining episodes.

It’s interesting to see you all discuss this show. I don’t watch these shows as they come out. I watch reviews like this to see if it’s worthwhile..I don’t want to watch woke misandrist nonsense so I wait till I can get it on DVD and binge away. You guys have piqued my interest, and I will watch later.

Cheers Craig. 👍👍🙏 If I was able to I would definitely prefer to watch all these Star Wars shows in one go. I feel they really do suffer from the short run times and weekly format. When I have gone back and watched these shows via the binge option they have vastly improved. (In most cases 😂)

I will say my son has liked it well enough. I think if he watches them again he will be more engrossed. Over all I think it's an ok show. I am in-between you guys rated the first 2 a 7ish. I hope that theory is not true lol. The pirates did say those credits were old republic credits and were in mint condition so Att Attin is way behind the times. I do not agree i think force sensitivity is a very rare thing. The level of power/innate skill is different. Add in jedi/sith training and thats were you get real force users. I do think there are meant to be some very few people that have some force sensitivity with no training and no connection to jedi/sith but, they are extremely rare. Good talk fellas.
