To think that he is talking like that in 1999, before startup culture became a common thing, is outstanding. Now a days, we can easily say these things with conviction, we can start a company and run it without profit for 3 years with the hope to make it big, because we have so many examples of that now. But back then, it must've taken tremendous vision and conviction to even plan for something like this.

StarRider That’s because US, unlike most countries are already developed. Opening up the market when the country is underdeveloped and poor as hell will only invite massive foreign ownership over the country’s proprietary assets. There are only two reasons to why any country would allow foreign investments: 1) to invite new tech into the market 2) to create new jobs for the economy. Go to any country in Asia no sane government would allow 100% open economy to jeopardize local entrepreneurship. Be more educated please

What we don't see in the media is how many people in his same position and abilities have failed to achieve such success. We love hearing success stories but I can guarantee you this, there are way more failure stories out there but you don't hear about those. I'm not discouraging anyone from working hard to be content in life, but I think we are disillusioned by these great success stories and how if you work hardest, you will achieve a great amount of wealth and fame. Will you be happier and more fulfilled in your life if you work hard? Probably, yeah. Will you be insanely successful as Jack Ma? Probably not.

You don't know what you are talking about. 1. Life is not all about success as you may define it 2. Success isn't always achieved by working long hours 3. He's talking about running a company. You think the only successful people in the world are those that are the head of companies or those that work longer than 8-5? You need to work to achieve your dreams and definition of success. That doesn't mean you work a set number of hours. You work to accomplish your goals. Maybe that sometimes means 8-5 isn't enough.

It's not farm work or laying bricks on the road. Sleep and recovery time is essential for building stable software companies.
