Jiyuna would make a good Trash Taste guest he has many stories about living in Japan and traveling to different events plus he can introduce the Bois to the wonderful fgc
I think the answer about breaking the social barrier is right on. On my very short trip there, we met up with a friend who lived there and she took us to a neighborhood spot (shisha in Shimokitazawa). When we first sat down, no one paid us any mind. After a few beers, we were talking to a good majority of people in the small indoor area and even chatted it up with the workers and the owner. Went in with an open mind and came out making some new friends. Treat others like you wanna be treated and you'll be fine!
I just moved to Japan on JET this week, and so I'm stuck in a tokyo hotel quarantining for a little bit. It's pretty weird timing for me to see this in the feed but cool to hear some of your experiences. Been watching for some years now and have enjoyed seeing your channel change and grow. Catch ya in the lobbies soon enough
Honestly, teaching english sounds like _the_ trick to start out life in japan as a westerner, i personally never thought about that… As a bilingual person, I keep forgetting that a translator gig would be a good side job :o
After college, if you don't have a job lined up, teach abroad for a couple years. It will give you a better perspective on the world and after living abroad, you will be more comfortable taking life changing opportunities and calculated risks.
@@ANIMEILLUMINATI Yeah for sure, I think you need to reevaluate everything after 1 to 2 years. But at the same time it’s a pretty good life, even though you don’t make much money.
I've seen some videos of people discussing their addiction to FFXI, and generally is that their FFXI social life becomes like their actual social life and just sucked into doing activities and worrying about their ingame life more than their real life.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge! Gotta respect Jiyuna on his grind man. Seeing that kanji study book and hearing about his experience. Happy to see hard work getting rewarded.
I just finished the Tsukihime remake on my switch the other day. It helped me with learning Japanese a little bit. Glad I took Japanese for 3 years in high school.
This is something I liked when I first started watching your channel years ago. Just hearing your experience in Japan and just sharing what it’s like living. It’s always nice. Keep it up
Very interesting and cool video. One thing that I notice when I read about foreigners visiting the US is that quite a few will mention how you have to drive everywhere. Places are more spread out which makes walking to them harder than it is in smaller countries. At least that’s what I have read. Makes me wonder if that’s why in the US the age you can drive a car is a big deal.
Sounds like you came a long way, Jiyuna, since taking interest in Japan. The FGC savior, with humble beginnings. You love to see it. Thanks for the insight too!
My maternal grandma is Japanese so I have relatives in Osaka and will be an easier gateway into the country. But feel a bit weird because I've only ever interacted with that side of my family through letters. Don't wanna be the gaijin leech cousin whenever I can finally get to visit.
I looked up the Boston Career Forum. I feel like I had just discovered the Holy Grail of forbidden knowledge, and as someone in IT (CS' forgotten little brother) I'm going to abuse the hell out of it.
Ok, here's the real question everyone is dying to ask: Does Japan really have the fastest internet? So fast that their adult entertainment becomes blurred due to fast internet?
I visited Tokyo in 2003, and fast food was so cheap there! Also, Yoshinoya used thick strips of beef in their beef bowls, not like the thin beef-bacon we have in the US. Also lost a lot of weight in 1 week of visiting, just walking everywhere. It was delightful. I miss it.
Yo! Thanks for answering my question. I know it may be redundant to ask multiple people what's the cost of living out there is like, but it's always good to hear a consistent answer over like a decade.
"you got good friends? You're rich" Based. Also I used to live in Okinawa and you made me remember Yoshinoya they were so good thank you for the rememory 🙏
Fun change of pace! I sometimes go on a tear watching videos about cultural differences between America and other countries. Just hearing peoples' experiences is pretty fascinating.
Damn, this definitely the type of content I been wanting but had no idea. I might move to south korea in the next 4 years, so it's interesting hearing this kind of stuff.
This was really dope and I really hope you do a bunch more. There's so much to ask that wasn't covered here. Some people make their whole channel off of just this so I know there's a lot more to ask
I'm a software developer by profession, and I've been learning Japanese pretty diligently for the last few months. This kind of video is greatly appreciated. Thank you Jiyuna!
Shoutouts to FFXI. Warrior of Light please tell us the story of your time in Vana'diel! I'm sure all the other FFXI/XIV players would love to hear it too lol
When I first went out to Tokyo a few years back for work a group of people we were working with invited us out for dinner/socializing and we had a blast. Then a representative for the group went around the table and collected $40 from each of us lol I was told to always have paper money, too. Not sure how that's changed post-pandemic, but very few places were card friendly the couple of times I was in Tokyo.
Dude I binged your Japan vlog before anything else even though I know you're a FG commentator. Like how's the cat? Your Strong Zero addiction? That was fun.
Thanks for making this vid! I definitely agree with what you said about picking JP up naturally if you know a little bit. I also found that it gets easier after you memorize hiragana + katakana to the point that you can read it (writing is...another matter)
Would love more content about your experience in Japan and your journey inside the FGC. Really great content. I'm a newish FG player and just came across your channel recently.
Just living 30 miles off base in Germany was a big adjustment. Gotta figure Japan even harder since outside military areas there is less US presence and its harder to read basic road signs even unless you have language experience.
damn i feel bad about asking close friends in japan to become my tenso address for concert tickets and small merch items, and there's people out here dm-ing jiyuna to do that without even knowing him personally lmao i wish i could be that shameless
Since I follow you on twitter, I remember you saying SSj4 Gogeta is ur fav character in DB. Now that you are versed in Japanese, do you like the sub cast for DB/Z given how veteran and celebrated they are? Nozawa as Goku too? What other manga/anime you like? Can't really get into newer stuff like My Hero or Attack on Titan, my tastes are all stuck with DB, YYH, JoJo's, etc.
Relatable i wanted limit break for 75 in Final Fantasy 11 back in the day so bad for my Thief and Maat gave me the hands for a bit , 4 months of ignoring school :)
