This video is very helpful, but make it look easier than it was for a beginner. A few tips we learned by trial and error: use corn starch rather than powdered sugar (less sticking); roll on counter - don't roll on parchment paper; don't let the fondant get less than 1/8 inch because it will tear - formula for fondant size was too big and too thin; use cover the came color as cake and icing - easier to cover mistakes (she's bold using red fondant with red icing; have extra fondant in case you have to start again; make the cake a day before and allow a couple hours for decorating. breathe...
hi everyone i have used fondant 3 times and have had disasters the fondant allways collapsed and i roll it out to about 4 or 5 mm nearly quarter inch thick so im not going to touch it again until i sort out why perhaps freezing the whole cake ?
Thanks wilton! I make cakes almost every week but I've never actually tried to cover them with fondant. You constantly inspire me to try new things and your instructional videos are simply the best 😊👍
These are super helpful and straightforward, I like how they don't try to squeeze to much into one video. Obviously it's a company so they are trying to sell you their stuff, but still useful information for beginners.
This was great, thank you! My sister has asked me to make her wedding cake and I’ve never even attempted to do that before, so I’ve been terrified, but this was really helpful, and actually gives me hope that I might be able to do it! 😂
Thank you so much! This was so helpful! I bake and craft cakes for my kids themed birthday parties every year because I enjoy doing it. This definitely up'd my cake game!
Ok first i need to have a Fontant smother 😒 and secondly thank you so much for posting this video I'm having troubles with putting Fontant on to my cakes but this helped 😊😊
LOL, what you on. Never thought about it but now that you said it's so true. Funny to me. We learning about cake decorating and you thinking about days of the week. That has really tickled me.
Majaila Lotts I noticed that, in school I have PE on a Friday and it's so close to Monday when I have another Person, but it takes forever from Monday to Friday 😂
Kelly Smith Why not just move to america? IT'S AWESOME HERE! also a question what is there in the UK you british or irish or whatever like to do? Us americans just like being americans XD were all crazy here but my favorite thing to do in america is learn about dinosaurs and anything that has to do with dinosaurs or science.
Do you chill the cake once the buttercream is on before putting the fondant on? Or does it work better when the frosting is room temp to adhere better? Thanks! Newbie at this.
Hi I am a new baker , I found fondant cakes is really hard resin when I try to put it on the cake, the fondant gets ripped and I use supermarket fondant is this the reason why or is there any other reason. Please let me know where I can buy good fondant. Love your programme. Thanks
Hello! The icing layer helps the fondant adhere to the cake and keeps the fondant soft :-) I do not recommend putting fondant directing on the cake without a layer of icing.
oh i have a question: is it recommended that I make the fondant cake the day of the event? Because I read I can't refridgerate it the day before because of the condensation
Try Fantasia Fondant, you won't regret it. It is a very forgiving fondant with a long work time, which makes it easy to work with for beginners and pros. Fantasia Fondant is formulated with elasticity, making it a high performing fondant when covering cakes or performing in silicon cake molds. The colors of Fantasia Fondant are vivid and fadeproof. This fondant will not prematurely dry, crack, tear, break and 'elephant skin.' Offers a less sweet taste that resembled a homemade marshmallow fondant.
Any cake. Any shape. But I do recommend u crumb coat and chill which is where u put a small amount of butter cream to lock in the crumbs and put it in the fridge for half an hour then coat it in a layer of butter cream and fondant it. Hope this helped. Xx
Great video. I'm planning on giving my first cake a go. Unfortunately I don't have a rotating table, a smoothing tool or the flat utensil you used for the buttercream. do you think this will still be possible to do?
Absolutely! The turntable just makes it easier to turn. Use a butter knife for the off set spatula. The flat thing is totally optional, I don't usually use one! Just try to keep your hands flat when smoothing.

Watch the brands too, some brands are ok for cupcakes but it’s too tender for a cake. Kind of like stewed beef that’s cooked for 4 hours.
Please send ur contact to me
I have no intention of ever making or decorating a cake ever, yet i still love to watch it being done
I feel the same way about murdering dictators.

Do you chill the cake once the buttercream is on before putting the fondant on? Or does it work better when the frosting is room temp to adhere better? Thanks! Newbie at this.
Very clear instruction and professsional. Thank you
You are brilliant 👍
I always thought that you didn’t need to put icing before fondant, but thanks!
Fondant on it's own tastes gross.
Nice tutorial Beth!
This is the singular most infuriating thing about baking and will leave you in tears every time.
I've actually tried this and it was hard to do. My cake bulged at the center where you stack the cakes together. I was so upset.
Very clear, thank you !
Thank you for your nice tutorial.
Is this sugar fondant cake store in refrigerator after this process.or whether the sugar fondant covering process done after setting the cake.

oh i have a question: is it recommended that I make the fondant cake the day of the event? Because I read I can't refridgerate it the day before because of the condensation

You can find our different fondant options here: www.wilton.com/shop-icing-and-fondant/

hello, i am new to cake baking and would like to know what type of cakes are best or should be used for fondant decorations?
Any cake. Any shape. But I do recommend u crumb coat and chill which is where u put a small amount of butter cream to lock in the crumbs and put it in the fridge for half an hour then coat it in a layer of butter cream and fondant it. Hope this helped. Xx

"Thats all you need to do guys" no its friggin hard
thank you so much for this video! helped me a lot
Can you make a video to show how to know what type of pipping tip to use on the right stuff.PLEASE REPLY 😊😊😊
There's no reason to cut the fondant into a circle before draping it.
popcorn pretzel *f
You don't have to do it but if your cake is circular you'll have a better idea of how big the fondant circle has to be to cover it evenly.
Thank you so much I was stressing about how big a 17cm circle is and how the heck she measured it! 😂
Woww super cake ❤
Can you use an offset spatula instead of a fondant smoothing tool?
Thanks for the tips!
