Game looks nice. I hope you will enable mod support at some point because that's something modding community really struggled with for HoMM3 to the point where they have rewritten the whole game's code. Modding can also give your game much longer life. Of course you need to catch some fans' interest before investing in modding, otherwise there will be no people to make mods.

Looks kinda fun. One huge advantage of auto combat is that it doesn't degrade into just having the unit with the highest initiative to get the first move and fling the first spell to win.
My HoMM games tend to devolve into "Do I have 1000 Skelly Archers? Yes? I win, and get more"

@@korniestpatch Zombies have to go in and risk damage. Skelly Archers don't. In enough Numbers they can one-shot basically any reasonable stack from across the battlefield. Yes that includes the big beefy boi units.

@@Pizza7478 Great until the tables are turned and you have to fight against Nicolai's doomstack in the Sylvan campaign.
To find obelisk's treasures you have to read the text. It gives 3 types of hints.
1 the type of land where the treasure will be (snow, desert, greenlands)
2 landmarks to look for.
3 average direction (to the south east, 10 feet from x building etc...)
It's actually really well made when you see the number of possibilities with th procedural generation, treasures are in fact quite easy to pinpoint and are well worth the time, early on they give a HUGE boost in gold and artifacts.
Reminds me of Caves of Qud's quest for the pistol The Ruin of House Isner.
The factions seem to be almost 1-to-1 recreations of HoMM factions:
Order = Haven
Wild = Sylvan
Arcane = Academy
Decay = Necropolis
Pyre = Inferno
Horde = Stronghold
Enclave = HoMM 3 Fortress
Lament = Dungeon
Tide = Sanctuary
Earthen = HoMM V Fortress
I mean....it is HoMM
You mean mostly generic fantasy factions?
so why would you buy this game if you can buy or already have homm3 with expansions....

@@timothypeterson4781 there is free qol patch for homm3 . You can't support company that doesn't exist anymore. Yes small dev team that steal ideas from homm3?
Let's be honest, this is a clone of old school HoMM with real time combat added to change things a bit... but that's exactly why I already like it and want to play it! I haven't liked HoMM instalment since the fourth and this with the retro look will takes me back to playing the first one and scratch that itch nicely.

@@dndoodles2291 I didn't mean to use clone in a derogatory way. Similar, inspired by, look alike, call it whatever you want it still means the same thing. The game doesn't look any less good for it, nor does it diminish the hardwork put in by the dev.

Yeah I hated that they went the Warcraft 3 route with HoMM 5 it made it kinda shitty and since then has been horrible

My wife loves heroes 3, but hated commanding units in combat. This might be perfect for her.

Such excellent taste Splat! Hero’s Hour really is the retro, pixel art, spiritual successor to Heroes of Might and Magic in the making that many of us have been waiting for!
Plus, Procedural Generation! This dev nailed it!
Hero’s Hour really does keep getting better every time I see it! The new talent tiers on the hero upgrade really let you plan out the development of your heroes, and it has fast, meaningful combat that doesn’t get bogged down and flows fast, but is still meaningful.
I have mentioned it before, but I really like how fast the battles flow; the units will follow standing orders and engage the enemy, but the player has input via spells, army positions, and general path given to defeat the enemy. It makes you feel more like a field commander, and not a little man inside each soldier who can precisely order everyone around.
Hero’s Hour is $10 for such a great game in the making, and is being updated VERY often! Plus, there’s also a free demo if you’re unsure. I look forward to more playing and recording with this one. 👍
Hero’s Hour has 10 meaningfully different Factions, random maps, that is all animated in an awesome pixel art aesthetic that pulls at me mightily. I can’t wait to play more!

I can very easily imagine this was made by a long time HoMM fan that was, shall we say, disappointed at what Ubisoft did to the series. There are just too many similarities to think there's no inspiration there.
Songs of Conquest is another HoMM inspired game that should be coming out soon too.
This goes far beyond inspiration.
It's almost like an alternate version of HoMM 3.
I don't know if I like the combat.
Is there _anything_ new this game brings to the formula though?? So far I haven't seen any innovation. I might just as well go play HoMM 3. That game still exists and it looks to be the exact same with, honestly, better graphics. And I say that as someone who tends to like pixel art.
@@somedudeok1451 The biggest difference would be the combat.
On top of that certain mechanics, more random generation and respawn of pretty much anything on the map.
@@Fallenangel_85 Yeah, after watching further I guess there are some changes. Not many though. It's still pretty much HoMM5.
When Splat said that the Lament faction was "Cthulhu monsters" I got curious.They are not, they are actually Troglodytes (underground troll/goblin creatures) that fight with Dwarves for control of the underground world. Still really interested in this game and wishlisted it on steam. Just disappointed there was no lovecraft faction. All that being said thematically the Lament faction seems to be one of the most unique factions.
disappointing to hear, I assumed, and with the name "Lament", which I assumed was maybe a nod to Clive Barker, so maybe some kinda dark Cenebite weirdness there....
Personally, I have plans for a sort of Eldritch Horror / Biblical Angels crossover faction. While cthulhu is cool and all, having a faction that *looks like* monsters and are actually the only good-aligned faction would be hilarious.
But there's ten factions already and each new faction is a lot of work, sooooo...

Finally a heroes 3 remake. Can't wait for the steam release! Not sure how I feel about the auto combat though. That was a big part of the fun in Heroes.
Plus a twist in the combat. When I was young I played a ton of Heroes III, but the combat with my grown up eyes is not something that could bring me back to that game. Auto battlers are very popular nowadays so I may give this game a try, since that randomness gives some spice to it, at least this is my opinion.
The auto battler is the only thing I would change on this game, but it's not as bad add it seems
Seems like it's more of a Heroes 5 clone to me.
@@ShannaroCold It's not really autobattler since you can technically control movement of your units to an extent.
You can actually give orders to the units, by clicking on them you can tell them where you want them to go.
So it's not that auto, you have a fair amount of control on the battlefield. But yes, it's more a commander's POV rather than a perfect control of ALL soldiers on the battlefield.
Looks conceptually interesting, as a 8-bit HoMM. I love that in battle all the individual units are shown. However I'd like to see HH's graphics upgraded from 8-bit to 16-bit.
Look up 'Songs of Conquest', seems to be that, granted it ain't gonna be out for a while.
Well, it is clearly HoMM II & III inspired. You just have to look at some of the monsters to recognize quite a few of them! Plus there is terrain, this also looks like Heroes. And... the fog of war looks very much like terra incognita from Heroes series - dark clouds sparkled with some stars. And this I say while being on 3:21 of this vid xD let's see what else this game has to offer!
I was looking through the comments to see how many people realise this. This is like copyright infringment territory no? The resources are almost the same, you can build 1 building per day, you can choose exp or gold in the chests, even the green dotted line is the same for your hero movement, and this is on top of everything you said. Im not complaining, I love HOMM, but its kinda strange to see. Dude, theres even a witch hut which looks exactly the same.
@@alexd9597 it's kind of hard to say nowadays because many shitty people abuse these laws to attack more successful people, while defending their clearly plagiarized content as simply "inspired".
But, given who owns the rights to the series right now... I'd say go for it. Even if it is a clear violation of copyright laws.

While it look like a clone of HoMM, its only a copyright infringement if the Cloak of the Balanced King exist in the game.
@@alexd9597 no it's not even close copyright infringement, they still used their own assets and different names/terms. They used the same ideas from those games but most games these days to the same which isn't illegal. At some point I can understand those people, they are probably fans of Homm3 and wished for a good successor, which never came. So they decided to do it on their own.

It took me a moment to realize why I liked what I was seeing in this game. And then it hit me. Its basically old school heroes of might and magic.

Game reminds me a lot of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, except with real time battles instead of turn based. Looks pretty cool!
Oh nice, this game looks good and fun. I like the variety of factions and there seems to be a nice balance between town and army management. I'm kinda excited already to see it released.

the reserve units will come into the fight when you start losing and have open space for them to enter... you will actually get a second deployment screen asking where you want to put them.

Looks like a great take on classic HoMM and I love the tiny pixel art. I just hope they don't get into legal troubles since a lot of elements are 1 to 1 taken from HoMM.

@@alexd9597 They probably dont have enough for a case. No assets are used nor copyrighted content. Its like all the Diablo clones and the Soulslike games. I bet the team are deeply inspired by HoMM 3. A more serious case would be ICBM and DEFCON and that hasnt been brought to court so I doubt they have a case.

Dude! Love your content, watch and thumb it all the time. But I often sleep on the games you play as I really only enjoy multiplayer games. When I fist saw this I was overjoyed at the prospect of playing some HOMM with the homies and wife! I checked their page and it seems to be multiplayer... Downloading the demo now to confirm, but I wont sleep on this title! Keep doing your thing man, again big fan of your videos (even if they're mostly single player)!!!

Looks like a game I'd enjoy I like the auto battles many units thing. That's such a fun style. Setting a path and letting the ai go for it
In tactical games generally stick to killing ranged immediately because they have the space to start shooting you from far and they shoot you while you are busy dealing with the knight and since in games rangers crit ur getting killed faster.
Been a while since i've been excited for a game, never knew of this one but I can't lie... THIS IS AWESOME!

I dig the exaggerated spell animation idea, I'd like that or at least a combat log to understand what happened afterwards.

You know, SplatterCat, it is usually more fun watching someone play a game... that he/she knows how to play. Watching a Let's Play when someone plays something for the very first time is not that interesting... at least to me. Speed Runs where someone just tries to beat a game as fast as possible without using skips or other glitched shenanigans is most entertaining.
Would love to see more visual and audio feedback during the combat, bloody terrain, severed heads, and other giveaways of the death and destruction that took place.
