I am from Thailand, which was part of the ancient Indosphere, I can see how my ancestors tried to best capture this sacred expression into our classical dance. Although time has given rise to new styles, but I feel that through dance our ancient cultures still preserve this sacred bond that only the gods could have bestowed on mankind.

Originally, the Thai alphabet allowed for it to trace the name/pronunciation back to its sanskrit roots, but during WWII the alphabet was "modernized" to accommodate the typewriter and one of the markers was omitted changing the pronunciation in Thai from "putra" to "butr".
I don't say this flippantly but, the piece was so inexplicably beautiful that if I could like it 10 times I really would. There was so much going on the entire time that I was almost afraid to blink. The camera work and production quality also deserve special mention. This is definitely the first of many, many viewings for me.
As an Aerospace Engineer student, this video is 8mins and 37seconds long, but it took me about 47 mins to watch because of the detailed isolations of hands and finger placements. Everyone can tell a good story but what makes a good story is not the story its self, but the person telling the story. Rukmini Vijayakumar you are amazing!

you guys in the comment section need to chill, Krishna is indeed a cool dude. Although he's not blue, he's dark-skinned, many of our dark-skinned gods and goddess became blue and green thanks to colonisation and colourism.

It is a rendition which depicts Lord Krishna (as a young boy) playing with other children, losing the ball in a lake which is the house of a poisonous serpent. He then goes on to tame the serpent and ends with dancing on it's head which the serpent gracefully accepts after recognizing the divinity of Krishna. And krishna fought with the snake, and krishna danced on the snake's head.... This dance depicts that fight, where in the poet has written it in such a way that the battle is going on in front of him, and he's praising the beauty lord Krishna... She was completely lost in this dance.. The steps were dapperly done and with such brilliant expressions.. It seemed that she is not just playing the role of krishna for a few minutes but it seemed that the situation was happening with her. This shows her devotion for dance. This is the best Bharatnatyam dance I have seen in my entire life. I regretted blinking. Ma'am you can try choreographing this on Aruna Sairam Ji's Darbar rendition... Only that can do justice to the way you danced here.

I don't know anything about dance or bharatanatyam. I was simply trying to understand the language expressed through movement. First a child came and it asked for different games to play, then after all discussions, kids settled on a throw ball kinda game. Then the ball was thrown in ocean, drama that followed where Krishna came in, swam the river was simply amazing. I didn't understand the language of Krishna's and Kalinga's encounter fully. My understanding might be totally wrong. But this is simply amazing. Creating a whole world just with movement. Felt that everything is within us. Rukmini Vijayakumar Mam, I can't express how great an artist you are. How did you become so many different persons all within a span of 8 minutes? Take a bow.

I’ve always thought Thillana was very hard and tiring, and was put off it easily, but this is SUCH AN INSPIRATION! The dancing on the ground looks much more harder, yet you did it so gracefully like it was a piece of cake! Ich bin kein Inder und habe mich auch bisher nicht viel mit Indien befasst. Aber ihr beim Tanzen zu zusehen ist eine Freude. Und das sie dabei auch im Tanz eine Geschichte erzählt...finde ich klasse. Vielleicht liege ich da falsch, aber Yoga und Tanz ähneln sich stark.

This is the best Bharatnatyam dance I have seen in my entire life. I regretted blinking. Ma'am you can try choreographing this on Aruna Sairam Ji's Darbar rendition... Only that can do justice to the way you danced here.

I don't know anything about dance or bharatanatyam. I was simply trying to understand the language expressed through movement. First a child came and it asked for different games to play, then after all discussions, kids settled on a throw ball kinda game. Then the ball was thrown in ocean, drama that followed where Krishna came in, swam the river was simply amazing. I didn't understand the language of Krishna's and Kalinga's encounter fully. My understanding might be totally wrong. But this is simply amazing. Creating a whole world just with movement. Felt that everything is within us. Rukmini Vijayakumar Mam, I can't express how great an artist you are. How did you become so many different persons all within a span of 8 minutes? Take a bow.

I’ve always thought Thillana was very hard and tiring, and was put off it easily, but this is SUCH AN INSPIRATION! The dancing on the ground looks much more harder, yet you did it so gracefully like it was a piece of cake!
