    AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RUclips are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

    You forgot to mention the "draw-down" part of these inverters. They can and will
    discharge said batteries very quickly. Probably would be a good Idea to run your
    vehicles engine while using especially when trying to power high current draw

    I ran everything in our camper off a Cobra 2500 watt modified sine wave inverter for YEARS. Computers, phone chargers, hair dryers, you name it. Now we have lithium batteries and a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter that runs our 120v ac fridge and everything else when boondocking. Works great! I have the inverter mounted in the front pass-through storage area (next to our lithium batteries). I have a heavy duty extension cord plugged into the inverter, and it runs back to the shore power cord where I have a homemade 120v electrical box to plug us into ourselves. It gives us 120v in all the plugs in the trailer. 20+ years and still boondocking!

    Thanks for that video. I have 8 deep cycle batteries wired in parallel putting out 800 amps to a 4k inverter, which powers a portable AC, but not our roof AC in our Toy Hauler. We also have 2 size 8 cables running from our F250 alternator back to our truck bed to keep these 8 batteries charged up. Running the engine about 10 minuted per hour keeps them charged. Cheaper than running a generator full time, and less noise.

    You do lose efficiency going through a inverter, and I don’t have near the solar setup you do for recovery.

    I love it! Back in the 1990s, my twin brother got a 2000 W inverter and connected it to the battery of his 1972 Chevy C20 truck. We went out to the country of northern Maine, and he powered up his Marshall guitar amplifier with two 4x12" speaker cabinets and shredded on his guitar from the bed of his truck. Good times!

Since we stay mostly in national and state parks we've been charging her laptop and camera batteries in the car during day trips. You reminded me that we have a 300W inverter sitting in a closet that we bought several years ago for a trip to Iceland - we rented a campervan and drove the ring road. The Basecamp has 2 lithium batteries and 320W of solar, plenty of power to take over. LOLOHO, Alan

    Thanks for the fun video! 2000W is going to be 150A at 13V. The cables to your battery only looked to be around 4-6 AWG which should get pretty warm (and waste some power) at 150A. I would never walk away from it while running hard. 1/0 AWG would be a safer choice for this DC current. Safe travels!

    I installed a 3,000 watt inverter in our Brinkley. Along with a couple 370 watt solar panels and 4 100ah lithium batteries we had power to spare as we spent the winter off grid in Arizona. We used the TV, microwave, washing machine, and hotpot. Not all at the same time obviously. Solar and inverters have changed the RV industry. We have a small generator but rarely use it. What Sean didn't mention is that big inverters powering big loads will chew through batteries so fast it will make your head spin. I wonder if he had to get a jump start after running the microwave off of Seemore's batteries... the inverter, while running the microwave, was pulling in the neighborhood of 163 Amps from the batteries!! Very interesting video. Especially without the music. (just kidding!) My question is, if you're connecting a two or three thousand watt inverter to your automobile's battery to power your coffee maker and hair dryer, etc., aren't you obviously running down your automobile's battery? I'm not an electrician and the best way to learn is to ask, right?! So how long can your wife run that hair dryer and run that lamp and coffee maker etc. before you don't have power to start your truck to haul it all back home?! And thank you again for a very interesting video.

    Efficiency isn’t max output is what’s lost in the conversion so for every 1w of dc power you get .88w ac power. Essentially if you want to get the 200w that inverter claims it will cost you 244w for the battery.

      @johnfoppe5383 thanks. We have always done a mix of different styles of video and frankly that’s probably why our channel is not bigger. The most popular RUclips channels usually have a basic formula and stick to it. We do different different types of videos. I watch a lot of product review channels and they are huge because so many people enjoy watching product videos on RUclips. For example, I watch many Automotive, technology, and Camera review videos, even if I am not necessarily in the market to purchase the specific products. That is especially true with the Automotive reviews. I doubt I will ever own a Lamborghini, but sometimes it’s kind of fun to learn about those kinds of cars. With regard to this video and power inverters, these are products that we have used since literally day one of our camping journeys, even before we owned an RV. For newbies, I think they are great products to know about.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  15 дней назад

      @@annmariewhale4501 Thanks for your comments... very interesting to me, and you have given me some ideas for more videos. The issue with the battery/inverter combination mainly is one of capacity/longevity. In other words, while you can run just about anything for a while, doing so will drain your battery and it will need to be replenished. For many appliances (blenders, coffee makers, electric cooktops, etc.) this is no big deal because you just use them for a short while. But for A/C units, batteries get knocked down quickly. If you are in an area where you don't need air-conditioning, an inverter can cover a LOT of your bases. I should probably do a video discussing in more detail.

      Your bear spray video helped to… and speaking of electricity and bears… did you know you can buy a bear trip line to put around the perimeter of your camp site? Almost everyone gets this wrong. Laptops, tower computers, TV & radios ALL CAN be run with a MODIFIED sign wave inverter. NONE of these items ACTUALLY run on 120V AC. They all have transformers (usually reducing the voltage to 12V AC or 5V AC) and full bridge rectifiers. The full bridge rectifiers will turn the AC voltage into DC voltage that the computer, radio or what ever needs to operate.
    NOW where a PURE sign wave inverter is NEEDED is for things like fans, air conditioners, refrigerator, induction cook tops & microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners. These are the things that NEED a PURE sign wave inverter. Even if you have a 3,000 MODIFIED sign wave inverter it WILL NOT run an induction cook tops. The MODIFIED sign wave is too DIRTY, the sign wave is not good enough to run an induction cook top. ALSO, MODIFIED sign wave inverters are VERY hard on ANYTHING that has a MOTOR in it. You will shorten the life of anything with a MOTOR in it by 30% to 60%. ALWAYS use a PURE sign wave inverter for these types of things. PLUS an electric motor that runs at 10 AMPS might (according to the label), depending on the application, will take 20 to 60 AMPS to START the motor. Air conditioners are one of the biggest draw at start up. These motors might take as long as two to three seconds to wind up to speed. Make SURE your inverter is rated to that much power.
    I have lived in THIS motorhome for 18.5 years, yes I am a full-timer, I have been for about 28 years. I have 1,950 watts of solar, 1,200 AMPS if lithium batteries and a 5,000 watt pure sign wave inverter. Even that will NOT run my drill press, electric pressure washer or my welder. I use my diesel powered 7,200 watt generator to run those three things.

    I love Long Long Honeymoon, but this isn't really a great review IMHO. When you were showing the microwave running the inverter's display read that your truck's battery was down to under 11 volts which will kill the battery if it's kept under that load too long. Inverters can be great, but if you want to use them for camping and running coffee makers or any other real load you're going to need more than a single 12v battery to keep it going more than a few minutes. You can figure that for every 10 amps pulled on the inverter's load side that 100 amps will need to be pulled on the supply side. They will drain a typical 12V battery really quickly.
