Beautiful cemetery. So many beautiful headstones. Love the stations of the cross, have never seen them before in a cemetery. So many names on the wall of rememberance, sad. Thanks Sue for taking us along. Take care and God Bless ❤
The artistry of the stonework is just astonishing. Also, although it is course a very formal writing style on the headstones I was intrigued to see the word “Lyeth” in place of lies. A last vestige of Middle English and Early Modern English. Such an encapsulation of history in these beautiful memorials.
This was great Sue!! Love the memorial❤️. This great of the town to remember those who with no resources and/ or family! Just beautiful ❤️. Thanks for another great walk Sue💕.
It’s a beautiful old Churchyard..Some of those old headstones are really beautiful.I love the ones with the carvings on they must have taken days to do. Our new ones will be faceless slabs in no time .I don’t think they will last seventy years let alone as long as these or soome that date back even further.I should think there’s burials in there from Tudor times ,even before..Depending on how old the church is.Thank you for taking us with you..Love n Light 🥰
Another beautiful cemetery! Those monuments were stunning 🤩 That memorial garden was moving and sad at the same time with all the babies interred🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Superb detailing on those older grave markers! The day looked beautiful and the picture quality was excellent as well. Hope you and the family stay healthy. Thanks Sue. 😊👍👍👋
Some really unusual carving on the headstones the first one you came across was beautiful. The garden of remembrance it was good the names were listed and the verse was lovely. Looks like you picked a good day. Take care.
What a pleasant day in a pretty cemetery. I marvel on the older dates on the tombstones and the backdrop of the ruins. Where I live in the US Midwest we have nothing older here than the mid 1800's. Thanks the the walk, Sue.
Thank you Sue. I did enjoy this walk, all the beautiful headstones and designs on them were very different from the usual ones we have seen. That pauper's memorial was so moving as you read out the names and ages of some, that would have been diffucult for you. It makes us stop and think how lucky we are that we woke up this morning, taking time to show our loved ones we care. That memorial certainly was an eye opener. Take care and bless you 💕🇦🇺
Love the history of this incredible cemetery, some of it carrying great sadness but well looked after. thankyou for this lovely video, though I was born far away in New Zealand I feel great love for the land of my ancestors. I look forward to watching and love your videos, thankyou again for caring ♥♥♥
The many subtle differences between an Irish cemetery and an American one never ceases to amaze me. The nearest to the true "Irish style" I've seen here in the States were graves I frequented when I lived in upstate New York for 3 and a half years. I would often go to St. Paul's cemetery in Oswego, NY to visit the grave of the Reverend Father Michael Barry. He has a MASSIVE high cross befitting a priest who was born in County Cork, Ireland. It was truly a marvel to see and the crashing waves of lake Ontario below always added to the mystic nature of the place. This was another wonderful video, Sue! Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Thanks for the lovely comment, we are all so far apart but it's always beautiful to read comments like this and really realise we all have such common ground ❤️❤️
Beautiful old place. Lots of decorations are visable still. I live the pauper marker, so nice they took the time to get the details. Wonderful not forgotten 🇺🇸🧚🏻♀️
What a gorgeous Sue. You have knocked out of the park on this one. 367 buried most baby's breaks my heart ❤. Thank God to the locals for putting up these stones. God bless ❤ you all. May you all reat in peace.
Day time here,11.12am,absolutely beautiful ,heartwarming to know that the impoverished and poor were not just discarded and forgotten specially the gentleman at 103.keep up the great work pleasent dreams fromballarat in Oz,😴😴👋👋🇦🇺
Beautiful cemetery with the unusual bust of Christ and the sad but deserving memorial to the people of the paupers grave . way back in years past people were buried here in paupers graves but you could pay a £1 and a shilling (a guinea) to have your name put onto a gravestone at the side . these were known as guinea graves but if you couldn't pay your death went unmarked . Thank you Serenity Sue for another beautiful walk . Rest in peace all who slumber there x
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I haven't got children of my own, but seeing an age with no voice and playing is heartbreaking no matter which century they came from. It lovely to see but very sad. And it's great you speak for them remarkable children RIP 🥀🧸😢
What a lovely cemetery. It's so sad that Sir Walter Raleigh stole the church from the Friars. He also led a party of soldiers to quash the Munster uprising. He stole lands and properties from Munster families. He was a boastful and cruel man. Elizabeth 1st was in love with him and enabled his many misdeeds. He also brought tobacco to Europe for the 1st time, not to be celebrated. James 1st had him executed for treason. The story of babies, children, and other unnamed adults is heartbreaking. So good to see a memorial in their honour. They deserve to be remembered. Great video, as always.
The mass grave for all of the poor broke my heart. Can you imagine your baby or your parent passing away knowing you can't even leave a marker for them? Everyone who has ever lived changes the world in some small way. They should be remembered! Beautiful place, however. Thank you, Sue!
The memorial is such a beautiful honor and God knows each and every soul.😢❤. The cemetary and snone wall is massive andso amazing. Thanx dear Sue for a wonderful walk. I love each and every one. Love you guys too. You feel like family.❤😂❤😂
Such an interesting cemetery. So sad the paupers gravesite. Mad me cry at the memorial. So happy that the poor souls were give some sort of recognition though may they all Rest In Peace
Sue, you probably already know this. But take a photo and turn it to 'negative'. Helps to read worn writing. I did it at Mellifont Abbey and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. It was passed on to the Dublin Museum who didn't realise it was there. Love the videos by the way.
What a beautifull memorial to them all and the little babies so so sad.God Bless the kind people who did this for those poor people.its hard to see it isent it without shedding a tear.thank you Sue and Irish eyes.take care🌹🌹
Great video Sue and GV. This cemetery is huge! The old section is fascinating, so are the Abby ruins. My hearing is not too good anymore, did you say, Sir Walter Raleigh had something to do with its destruction in the 1500s? This is the first time I have seen the stations of the cross in a cemetery, cool. The monument to those buried in paupers graves was very moving. Is the paupers section that field off to the side? Thank you very much again Sue, and GV, for a great walking tour. Take care.
Here in the US it isn't common to see more than one name on a stone, unless it is a mother and child that died during childbirth. I like the idea, it conserves space, and keeps families together forever.
Such a beautiful memorial for the Hogan family, the little photo of Peter in the middle, such a sweet little boy 💔 rest in peace to them all...thanks Kathleen ❤️
Some beautiful 18c stones there..remind me of ancient roman tombstones. Amazing someone added 1959..on such an old stone. I dislike the modern black marble..machine made stones..
Beautiful cemetery. So many beautiful headstones. Love the stations of the cross, have never seen them before in a cemetery. So many names on the wall of rememberance, sad. Thanks Sue for taking us along. Take care and God Bless ❤
Thanks NANA D 😘
Thank you so much, Sue for another fine stroll through a beautiful cemetery. Loved the stone wall. 🧡
Thanks Cathy, beautiful cemetery and in fact the whole area around is just gorgeous
The artistry of the stonework is just astonishing. Also, although it is course a very formal writing style on the headstones I was intrigued to see the word “Lyeth” in place of lies. Thanks Andrew, I see lyeth a lot on my walks but almost all of those are old headstones ❤️
What a pretty cemetery with an AMAZING history attached to it!! Thanks for sharing, Sue!! XXXX ❤
Thanks Nadia x x

Sir Walter Raleigh used to live near here, there's a statue of him down near here from what I remember

I love the way a family can be buried together, we are very fortunate ❤️❤️
Lindo maguinifico boa noite querida abraço
Thanks very much ❤️
Hi Mo... Sue & Irish Eyes 😘🦄😘
❤️❤️❤️❤️
When there are several names on a headstone, how do they position the bodies?
On top of each or side by side x x
@@SerenitySueGraveyards do they take the old casket out then dig deeper when they are on top of each other or put them in the same casket?
No coffin stays, they usually dig down far, it's only into the ground, no liners just the coffin and dirt x x
Another aincient one. 1700's ! No wind this time? There is a set up like that where my family is. Hello again from the USA. Stay warm out there.
Yes some really nice headstones there and a beautiful day too, thanks David 😊
Another banging cemetery sue love the stones be careful hand lrish eyes ok

Hi serenity
Hi, how are you ☺️
Some beautiful 18c stones there..remind me of ancient roman tombstones. Amazing someone added 1959..on such an old stone.
I dislike the modern black marble..machine made stones..
It's always wonderful to read the older headstone and still not only read them but to see such craftsmanship too ❤️
Hey sue and irish eyes
Hello Moe ❤️
It. Must have. Ben. 40 feet. High..
