Bloodborne single handedly justified the existence of the PlayStation 4. It is the single greatest love letter to cosmic and gothic horror of our digital times. The artwork is sublime. The music is haunting. The weapons are iconic. The combat flexible and fast. The story is engrossing to the point of made for obsession. The fashion is slay. Yharnam calls us all back to this day.
I have to vouch for the soundtrack. Laurence the First Vicar's theme has been in my playlist since I came to learn of it. That's the only thing keeping me sane throughout fighting the absolute nightmare that is Laurence.
The amazing thing about Bloodborne, is that it’s a better horror game than most actual horror games without even trying. Never have I nearly jumped out of my skin from a giant rat jumping at my character until I play this game… and I fucking love it. This game is the sole reason I bought a PS4, and I don’t regret it. That moment you feel when you are fighting a boss that has been killing you for the last 10 hours of playtime, your shaking, sweaty palms on your controller, forcibly trying to keep your breathing calm as you get closer and closer to winning, and you do it. When you encounter this, and you *WILL* encounter this, one of the greatest feelings you will ever feel. Then you do something else to feel it again. Waste of skin runs. No hit, or restart the whole game runs. No weapon waste of skin runs. Torch only waste runs. Guitar hero controller runs. This community has created so many different challenges, it is insane. Then, once you enter this rabbit hole, you will realize that this is merely the beginning.
I agree with you. My biggest problem with Horror as a genre is the over-reliance on jump-scares that take up the whole screen and only exist to SHOCK you. Being startled or shocked is not HORROR. It's a natural response. I've gotten a fright from someone behind me speaking when I didn't realise they were there. Was THAT horror? I think not. Horror is about atmosphere. Yes there must also be fear, but true horror to me is not about being startled. It's about feeling hopeless and in awe of something that is simply too much to process. It's about slowly progressing in the dark, hearing a roar and making out a shape in the distance, and that feeling of "What do I do?" that runs through your mind. It's feeling as though you are being hunted. It's feeling as though there is no escape or respite. It's feeling unwelcome, like the entire world around you wants you gone. You are in an inhospitable place, you are surrounded by things that exist only to kill, and you lack any knowledge of what is to come. Jumpscares serve only to cheapen experiences for me. I am autistic and might just be a little oversensitive to the loud noises and visceral imagery usually used in traditional jumpscare horror, but still. Horror is a feeling, not a reaction, imo. So to me Bloodborne is perfect. When something scares you it is because it is scary, not because the developers put a JPEG of a ghost face or a zombie on screen with a loud noise.
How is this still a thing? How are you finding entertainment in watching a stranger watch something youve already watched? Not to mention these guys are banking off Maxors hard work with very little effort of their own.
Interestingly enough, Bloodborne is one of best devised and most faithful to Lovecraftian myth pieces of media allround, not just video games. It really captured the spirit of Lovecrafts works, as a bunch of videos explained so well. If you really want to delve deep into it read The Paleblood Hunt, a summary/compilation of Bloodborne's lore, which is the fruit of detective work of SoulsBorne community...
I am compelled by Ludwig's music to say that there is a man who re-did it in the style of DOOM Eternal, and it is absolutely stunning. GeoffPlaysGuitar actually has some neat music making videos.
Fun fact about enemies is they can always kill you. Early game enemies will die easy once you leveled past them but they'll still be able to take you out if you let them.
If you want more reviews like this which are really entertaining but essentially are just gushing over how great the game is then How to Monster Hunter from PunkDuck is also great.
Bloodborne is the only Soulslike that I made significant progress in, and it remains my favorite. I haven't touched it in ages though because it just runs so poorly. Can't wait for the remaster, should it actually happen.

I miss bloodborne. unlike other souls games, I only got to play and finish it once on my cousin's ps4 many years ago since I don't have my own; and I'm not buying sony's $400 magical box for one game. I remember enjoying it more than I did sekiro(which is also great in its own right) and I'd honestly be more hyped for a bloodborne pc port than elden ring.
This review is NOT really Bloodborne; it is a parody. I hope you understand that. Because if you didn't know about the ACTUAL game, you'd probably believe the obviously fake commentary by this troll. I mean the scenes you are watching is from the game, but the way he describes it is so goddamn over the top and shit that it doesn't do the game justice. It's taking a ton of restraint not to respond by cursing out Max0r for making fun of it. >:(
This is one of the common BS reviews of from soft games. They are not hard just buggey broken messes that are easy once you understand how stats in the game work or better , get the controls fixed by fan patches on the PC version and even then sadly unlike nier they couldn't fully fix the broken M+K controls which is sad. From soft games have shit story, good to meh world design, ok but bland music and generally more bugs or bad game design then the average bethesda game on release. Bloodborn is just another of their overrated copy paste garbage like the yearly COD game but worse because CODs have a reasonable level of polish on release and their PC releases are not scams where they just bootstrapped the game to an emulator.

@Offisian Bloodborne has you fight British people, a horrifying situation that makes other "horror" games look like child's play.
i hope they react to max0r's incorrect summary ace combat zero and project wingman review
