- Kammersänger Heinz Hoppe (26.01.1924 - 07.04.1993) was a great German lyric tenor with a warm baritone-like middle range. From 1956 to 1970 he was the principal lyric tenor of the Hamburg State Opera, and in 1962 he was awarded the distinguished title of Kammersänger. He also performed widely in many musical centers in Europe and North America. From 1977 to 1989 he was a professor of voice and leader of the opera class at the Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim.
Heinz Hoppe was among the most popular German tenors in the decades following World War II. He made numerous recordings of opera, operetta, Lieder and folksongs, and appeared frequently in German TV programs. He was also a good friend of Robert Stolz, and they performed together in many concerts, especially in the Netherlands.
On the occasion of his 100th birthday (26.01.2024), I present here selected clips from German television, showing Hoppe from 1962 to 1982:

My channel features mainly German music videos from the 1950s to the 1970s. I think the music films and TV programs from this period are of the best quality, and the singers were top notch. I see a decline in quality from the mid-1970s onwards.
For the 100. Geburtstag of Heinz Hoppe I searched my collection for rare footage, selected several songs, cut them out and arranged them in chronological order. „Schön wär’ die Welt“ was already posted on my channel in the past, but I included it because I like it so much and find the message so relevant for today. Glad you mentioned that as well.
