Notice that the ONLY car pushing it was the lil $10,000 MR-S. They spent so much money on those Porsches and Lambos that they have to worry on every corner.
Toyota mr2 is a great car, it gives you proper driving manners, if you do something wrong it bites you so it forces you to understand the car and how to drive it. Everyone there was off the line, bad breaking points etc, if you do that with the mr2 it just spins hahhaha I just adquired a really high modified toyota mr2 with k24 swap and it's my first rwd car.... the car lets me know every single thing i am doing wrong so i have to adjust my driving.... I noticed i am starting te get WAY smoother on how I drive.
I found the same thing driving my aw11. You could feel the rear inside corner wanting to pull up on turn in and felt a little sketchy. By the end of a couple days I no longer felt it and was barely trail braking into the corner just to start the corner and it felt way smoother. If you listen, any car will tell you how to drive it. (just came from an elise a couple days earlier and was fun feeling the difference between the two)
@@sparkster_6087 I come from a vw, they don't tell you how to drive them haha, today car's are so filtered that you get 0 feedback from them, first time i drove the toyota it was like WHAT the hell, i can feel even a cigarette on the floor with this... also the steering wheel let's you know exactly what's going on. Mine is obviously not stock, all chasis is uniball so that helps a lot... but i guess it's not that car in stock form is super filtered.
Nice driving, the car really responds well to your inputs. I have a Mk 3/NC Miata with 2.5l cammed engine and am looking to move into an MR-S K20 swap. The 400hp Porsche Carrera S was a dick, his ego would not let you pass. I am familiar with the problem here at Circuit of the Americas during track days.
that porsche does not only have 400 hp ... it has more because it goes away too much and then on the straight it surpasses the Audi r8 plus which has 610 hp
@@stianSKII good to know. I was thinking about forking out for a Moroso sump for my swapped AW11 MR2 but if you're doing this on a stock sump, I'll certainly be fine.
Just bought one MR-S last month, you have an IG account im interested on what mods you have done to it, also what ecu you are running, i dont hear the lift sound of the vvtl-i , or did you lower the kick in timing for it? It sounds like its engaged since low a rpms , great video btw!
Thanks! Instagram: stian_svendsen Its basically stock.. 2zz engine with exhaust, coilovers, brake pads, semislicks and a big wing, stock ecu. You cant hear it well on camera, but for example at 1:24 you can slighty hear it.
Great driving and nice to see you keep up with that Porsche! It always does annoy me though that high horsepower cars don't think they have to let other cars pass just because they're faster on the straight. If your pace in faster, they should let you by!
Nice lap man ! btw.. i'm think about buy my First track day car, and mr2 is great in my opinion, but i have one question.. it's better to buy The 5-speed manual Version before 2003 or 6speed with lsd, if in the future I want to swap on 2zz ? The 6-speed gearbox has many shorter gear ratios from the 5-speed?
The 6speed box is the same as the 5speed just with an extra cruising gear. The first 5 gears are same ratios. You won't ever use the 6th gear on a racetrack. A lot of people swap the gearbox to the 6 speed from the Corolla T Sport that the 2ZZ engine comes from. Apparently it suits the power band better. In my opinion, unless you KNOW you will do a 2ZZ swap, I would forget about the requirements for it. Whichever MR2 you bought, you would end up swapping some stuff over if you did an engine swap. You should buy based on condition. Find one that doesn't burn oil and hasn't got any rust, and has some history so you know what the car's been maintained like. All 1ZZ generation MR2s have LSD as standard, whether they are pre-facelift (1999-2003, 5speed) or facelift (2003-2007, 6speed). The only country which was sold without LSD was Japan, strangely. So if you avoid the "MR-S" import then you will 100% definitely have an LSD on the car. All European MR2s have an LSD.
What weight did you get her down to? Did you upgrade suspension? What brakes are you running? Looks pretty damned fast and great on the turns. Porsche had you on the straights but yours is much better on the turns.
Adding some power mods might give you a chance in the straights. A set of cams, intake manifold (ddpr or R9k) and full standalone would be the move. Those mods would be good for a 30whp plus bump in power.
@@stianSKII What spring rates do you recommend for track duty? 5k and 7k like yours or higher in rear? Deciding between these vs KW's. Not many options
Nice work, good that the back 911 finally let you past. Your car seems to have great cornering grip and balance, is the chassis modified as well as the engine?
LOL the Porsche doesn't know how to take the corners but then steps hard on the gas to get ahead. Then you got the opposite with the Miata is breaking early and taking the corners like they're shortcuts from Mario kart 😂
