So loved Dr Ruth. Her ability to teach without embarrassment was a priceless talent. Her books, tv, radio and lectures as a teacher were fascinating. Always respectful. RIP to Dr Ruth.
Johnny was an unbelievable class act! As he rightly pointed out the audience became tense and awkward the moment they were told the topic of discussion, but he kindly took them by the hand and brought them along for an entertaining, informative experience.
Thank you Dr. Ruth for being bold and courageous in removing the cultural stigma of sex, moving minds from shame to informed to proactive. Surprisingly, even today our culture struggles with differing views of sex and how it should be talked about, but without a doubt, you paved a path for others to follow. ❤❤❤
all her advice is based in common sense and an open communication between adults, Johnny did a great job making the interview interesting and respectful...miss him and the show!!
I remember when I discovered her late om Sunday night on WYNY radio I think in 1983. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I dared not miss the show every week. Rest in peace cute little lady.
I remember watching this live.... and I was 25 years old... For some reason I thought she always had white hair and wore glasses... Now... I see a young lady who is smart and fun.... what a doll... RIP...
All praise to that tiny, tough, generous woman. My ex helped her get out of a bathroom stall in midtown in the 90s, and we thought she was old then. But also, Johnny Carson is saying "consenting adults" in '82, and that stuns me. I tend to think of him as a little square, but he's so much more on it than same-era Letterman.
Great interview with Johnny Carson, Dyan Cannon and Dr. Ruth. She is such an inspirational woman and sweetheart. She lived such a long great life, her accent is just awesome. What an icon at teaching positively and open easy conversations about sex and feeling good. Yes, exactly Connect the dots. She also had a great playful mischievous sense of humour. Good one Johnny, haha. ❤️ 👑💎⚜️🏆📺😍🥰😘🤩🌟✨ 🧠 😆
Her time in Nazi Germany and escape are amazing. ~~~~~ Wikipedia wrote that, "In 1948, on her 20th birthday, Westheimer was seriously wounded in action by an exploding shell during a mortar fire attack on Jerusalem during the 1947-1949 Palestine war; the explosion killed two girls who were right next to her. She had near-fatal injuries; she was temporarily paralyzed, almost lost both of her feet, the top of one of her feet was blown off, and it was several months of recuperating in a ward before she was able to walk again. In 2018 she said that she still visited Israel every year, and felt that it was her real home, and the following year said that she was and is a Zionist." ~~~~~ She was an incredible woman.
That made me more uncomfortable then the time I took my dad to the urologist and he forgot his glasses, so I had to read the medical questions to him. (RIP, Dad but I never want to do that again).

Hello Sharon, how are you doing?

Dr. Ruth was the first "celebrity" I ever saw in person. At LAX in 1986. She was tiny and funny.

Hello Sherri, how are you doing?
Dr. Ruth helped to destigmatize homosexuality. She was a great ally of the LGBT community.
That made me more uncomfortable then the time I took my dad to the urologist and he forgot his glasses, so I had to read the medical questions to him. (RIP, Dad but I never want to do that again).
Could not have aired on June 6, 1982. That was a Sunday.
Video description and Wikipedia say it aired Friday, June 11, 1982.

the religious question. first sin. we have not gotten past this. still.
Crazy, isn’t it?
Catholic church said at the time it was a mortal sin.
Dr sue and Dr Ruth they were wonderful open women which made talking about sex more an open subject then a closed subject ❤
This episode has been shown many times over already the past few years. Any chance we are going to get any new/old episodes??
How rude! This was posted today as a tribute to Dr. Ruth who passed away yesterday.
