The way Steven yells "THIS IS MY STOOOOOOORE!" just doesn't have the same deranged energy as the original.
I feel like the acting and character changes kinda made alot of the psychopaths kinda suck
Original Steven had a lot more gravitas and craziness and the echo in the supermarket enhanced them.
There's barely an echo in the remake and he sounds more whiny than crazy

That's what I was thinking when I first saw Steven. He sounded and more looked crazy in the original, which is a disappointment since he's one of my fav bosses in the game
That was less of a remaster problem and more of a 'the og was so f-ing good' problem. Og Steven was a beast performance.
I think this might be just me, but Larry's laugh in this one, combined with his new facial movements, actually creeped me out.

I agree. I’ll admit I was hesitant when I saw they changed Larry’s appearance and voice, but finally seeing the full scene, I think they did a good job.
Seeing Larry visibly try and think of a reason why he can’t serve zombie meat and seeing him light up when he remembers his reputation was a good touch. Only thing I don’t like is that they changed him laughing while he dies, the grunts of pain just look strange with the facial animations and lip-syncing now

Cliffs Vietnam backstory made the character sympathetic and relatable. War veteran coming home and losing everything was a nice touch from the original.

Man, Jo the cop still scares the everloving shit out of me. Police officers are the ones you're supposed to turn to for help when a crisis like this happens, so when one of them just loses their minds and starts to sexually abuse you, that's an absolutely terrifying situation.

Some of the Psychopaths were either sound funny or worse. Cliff dialogues weren't even sound like that. He was saying "Viet Cong" and "Communist" since he was a Vietnam War Veteran. Not some Evil Neighborhood Butcher who was angry someone cross his lawn. And even Larry is more Burly than the original.
Mole is a term used to refer to spies. He is still a war veteran. They removed the specific references to vietnam which sucks. But they didn't change his origin.
Cliff was originally voiced by Steve Blum Who played Spike Spiegel In cowboy bebop. It’s just a shame that he didn’t come back to reprise his role

Man, I can’t wait for the mod that’ll restore the original voice acting for the cutscenes (the actual in-game dialogue will be a bit harder since all of it is actually spoken now).
IMO, there should be a handful of exceptions though, like the new VA’s for Carlito, Isabela, Jessie, the Hall family, Brock, Larry, Paul, and Adam.
I think they all did pretty good, and they can stay. All the others don’t even hold a candle to the original VA’s (except Otis, obviously)

It seems that the voices need more "emotion" and that restlessness that they reflected by being Psychopaths.
Cletus didn't sound scary at all compared to the OG.
I know, the original Cletus actually sounded a bit regretful and guilty after he shot that guy when he said “now, goddammit, I warned you!”
And he also sounded legitimately paranoid and scared when he said “In a situation like this, I can’t afford to trust nobody!” The new guy just sounds like he’s trying to be “Generic Hillbilly Enemy #5”
I completely agree. Don’t get me wrong, there’ll be some lines where I’ll be like “Hey that was good! I like that!”
But most of the time, it just feels like they’re reading off the script, and that’s it.
@@Willard_Wyler23 That’s how I feel about a good chunk of the new voice actors too (except the ones I previously listed in another comment). Sometimes they perform a line really good, sometimes close to or even better than the original, and other times I wonder “Wow, who told them that that take was good enough to use in the final version?”

Franks shout is kinda bland here, sounds more like he stubbed his toe hard. Compared to his OG voice where you can hear the mix of emotions that frank was feeling in that moment
I also don’t like they changed Frank’s shout trailing off into a cry, almost like he was getting hoarse from shouting too hard, from the original. Now he just stops shouting on his own and it sounds awkward

I think the logic is that one of these things incentivized you, the player, in control of Frank, the hero, to take unsolicited photos of women's bodies and was never addressed at all as opposed to there being an evil, villainous character who is doing heinous things to women and then gets punished (killed) for it. That is a huge difference man

Even back when the original game came out, my headcanon has always been that Adam had some kind of voice changer to make his voice sound higher when he was working before the outbreak and he just never bothered to turn it off when he snapped. When he fell on the chainsaws, it caused the voice changer to malfunction and he was actually screaming his head off in pain (naturally) but the voice changer just ended up masking his screams with the looping laugh track.

Wish they got whoever voiced Roger Hall to voice Cliff too like how Steve Blum voiced both him and Cliff in the OG, because the new Roger VA sounds much more like Blum than the new guy who voices Cliff does

The voice acting in the deluxe remaster is mixed. Mostly bland but with hints of “Oh that was good!”
I can't. Sorry, but I'm just not a fan of his new voice and design.
He just comes off as some cheesy Disney villain, whereas in the original he felt more unhinged in his mannerisms to the point where you could see him as an actual threat.

The fact that some people think the changes they made in any way "RUINS THE GAME" are crazy. The different voice acting is a matter of preference. The only thing that I think is objectively worse is possibly the lighting. It looks a little wonky sometimes. But NONE of this stuff that people are whining about affects the quality of the game in any way. It's wild.
Its not the voice acting. Its to downgrade the tone of the game.
So no sexy pics, no vietnam and removed an assian villian (there arent that many in dead rising saga. Its just larry and another one from the 3)...
Its still good, but it doesnt feel the same. And with the inclusion points and trying not to offend anyone (see its webpage), they would remove the sexiness from the twins from DR2 deluxe as well xp.

They only removed the incentive points to sexy pictures and if you want to you can take as many pics as you want. No one is stopping you. As another commenter said the Cheryl mission where she poses for you to take pics is still in the game. And the scene is pretty much still the same w Cliff only it doesn't directly reference Vietnam. Like, he is still clearly a war veteran with ptsd. It really doesn't change much at all. The tone is still the same and it shouldn't take much away from your enjoyment of the game
Gotta say, they nailed the facial expressions, the convicts and clerk especially look so great with their exaggerated animations.
Adam is prolly one of the hardest boss to fight in Dead Rising Franchise

Damn Jo's voice actress is not selling it. Nearly all of these performances are worse than the OG, but hers is especially rough. I can understand re-voicing the main story characters considering they now have text dialogue that needs to be voiced. But the psychos all exist in a bubble, no extra dialogue needed, they could have kept the original actors

Kinda like what the remakes of Destroy All Humans 1 and 2 did as well as the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I guess Capcom didn’t want to pay the union VA’s to reuse their voice recordings, they’ve been notoriously stingy about that recently

I can't believe some people genuinely think that the game is ruined because of Cliff and the Erotica shots.
When in reality the Erotica shots barely made part of the gameplay, you either could only get it by taking photos of zombies in suggestive clothes (they barely gave you any PP) or taking shots of female characters in suggestive angles (pretty much creeping on them)
Both things combined are less than 2% of the gameplay and doesnt take away any of the spirit of the original game
And they did keep the actual creep villain who acted predatorily. So it would be kinda hypocritical to punish someone for basically molesting people when you get points for taking cleavage shots that are totally voluntary

@@gamer62589being a creep was never a part of frank’s character, in literal canon he only took 2 erotica shots that we know of, one being a shot for Kent (who is a creep) and the other being Cheryl, who actively gave consent and requested frank to take pictures of her.

20:11 Larry's remodel is actually my favorite. Especially since he's still insanely creepy in the sense that the dude TOWERS over Frank and seems fairly "normal" until you attack him. Although the change when he dies compared to him "falling asleep" in the original was an interesting change. Still all works for me though. 11/10

Yeah they really should have modified some lines to make it flow better. You can tell that capcom wanted them to sound just like the originals but it’s just not that simple. With new voice actors comes new ways to say the same thing. The og lines worked amazing with the og actors for a reason.
I mean… what exactly did they censor besides making Larry’s voice NOT a racist characicature or not directly talking about the Vietnam/Cold War?

They weren’t given legitimately racist character design aspects like bad teeth, a broken accent, off colored skin and bad health standards for meat (which are all Asian stereotypes)

Man, Steve voice just doesn’t have the energy it did like in the original
I'm disappointed that they removed the dutch angle from Steven's cutscenes. The dutch angle tilts the camera off its horizontal axis to create a slanted, disoriented view. It builds tension and instability. It's often used in movies to create stress. It seems that the new developers don't understand little nuances like that.

I honestly think the franchise lost its touch after Dead Rising 3 onward. Even with this remaster, it's hardly as great as the original.

people complaining about Larry's new design... this is kinda better than the original honestly. They still kept that Larry's Asian, they just changed how he looks because his og looks were too racially stereotypical
I’ve literally never heard anybody complain about Larry’s original design being “stereotypical” or “racist” until AFTER they changed him for the remaster. It’s such bullshit, even though I admittedly like the redesign better just because the original was nothing special, but this censorship BS is just ridiculous.
Ah yes, the stereotypical giant Asian with no teeth that we all know. Truly a depiction that is very common in media. And I'm sure we'll see censorship of all the other racist stereotypes in DR, like all the fat and gun crazy Americans, the German Nazi dominatrix, or the Japanese monk.
