    🇨🇦Day 5**
The Beaver Pond campsite was a serene launching pad for our 306-mile trek to the legendary Dempster Highway. As we made our way down the road, the remnants of a recent fire were evident, with charred Black Spruce trunks silhouetted against the bright blue sky. Despite the destruction, the forest floor was a vibrant carpet of magenta and pink Fireweed, living up to its name by flourishing in the wake of the blaze.
As helicopters with water buckets flew overhead, evidence of another natural fire was in the process of being clear. Undeterred, we pressed on toward the Dempster Highway. Celebratory photos marked our arrival, and with our gas tanks topped off at $5.36 a gallon, we crossed the famed blue bridge we had heard so much about.
Our first destination was Tombstone Territorial Park. The Vistor Center was a treasure trove of knowledge about the First Nations' land, wildlife, and terrain, complete with complimentary tea. The tundra's secrets captivated us, and even the rain couldn't dampen the breathtaking views. The drizzle added a mystical filter to the landscape, making it even more magical.
With the nearby campground full, we stumbled upon an even better spot-a heavenly viewpoint campsite overlooking the Ogilvie Mountains. As we ascended 300 meters to the Eagle Plains plateau, the faded blue-grey mountains across the river valley reminded us that this breathtaking landscape was sculpted by water, wind, frost, permafrost, and gravity, not glaciers.
This was our camp on Day 5: stunning vistas and hardly any mosquitoes.
