I just love it when people are not afraid to experiment with music and play exactly what they want. Its what I respect most about certain artists. Micachu is one of those rare diamonds, and she should be treasured.
I saw this on New York Noise then bought the video on iTunes. I think it's the kind of geeky, catchy riff-based tune that you can't get out of your brain for a while. I like it. I'm going to check out more videos.
Great stuff. For some reason I can totally envision a rap or hip-hop act sampling this stuff. Can't wait to get the cd and listen to the rest of their music.
Such a good song, one of the first I heard by them, There first album Jewelry is just genius. If you are looking for new music try searching The Stumble and Shake - Land of the lotus eaters (Earthquake version) you may be in for a surprise!
Wow. You've heard of Teenage Jesus & the Jerks. I think we can call off the search, we've found the new John Peel. Micachu makes the music she wants. And she makes it brilliantly. Other than name dropping No Wave, did you have a point?
Sweet sound! I love there live videos always a sweet setting. Try searching The Stumble and Shale - oh my darling pree sweet music as well. A lil like this.
cool. saw them at a Late Of The Pier show- never heard of her/them before and was pretty into it- got the album, its good- somethin a lil different, which i always like...
It's not about ability - it's about experimentation. I don't like it that much either, but I certainly find it interesting and, as a musician, admire the bold steps. It takes a whole lot of guts to attempt at new statements in music. The rhythm besides the "strangeness" keeps me interested too. Give it another chance. ;)
Here's what Mica Levi said about this song in SPIN magazine: " 'Lips' encompasses what we do - it's upbeat, it's silly, it's short, and it's textural. We recorded the hum of our electrical equipment because we wanted to embrace noise, not delete it."
Can anyone tell me if a Micachu song borrows a tune from or samples The Fall's "Eat Y'Self Fitter"? It's been killing me. Every time I hear "Eat Y'Self..." I immediately want to rush to these Micachu songs because I swear one of them borrows from it. Not that that's a bad thing - I like both bands - but it's killing me. Am I going crazy? Is it just that songs of their like this are reminiscent of "Eat Y'Self..."? Cheers.
She's great!! gonna be huge in a bjork kinda way. saw her last nite in NYC-awsume, she does a few amazing things with a guitar. I would not doubt bigger then bjork cause this is her first and catching quick-maybe do some movie scores and shit. She's turning the page in the art of noise. Did i mention great show last nite!?!
Great exploration of sounds. My only beef is it's too short. Like most songs on this album. I wish they would explore for minutes on end. Would be really awesome to lose my self in.
i absoloutely love this, it's so stripped back. noting all the "I can't believe she's a girl" comments, it's no bad thing, refreshing. nice to come across something a bit different.
WhaT Is the girl in the immediate background playing for the bassline? It looks like a piece of plywood balancing on an upside down sander. Hope it is.
oh my god this girl is absolutely the coolest!! i got an npr podcast of her and its just her on her acoustic nylon string bashing away, fuckin awesome!! i uploaded it there cos i don't this it was up. SO cute!!
@kels327 They're not hipsters, they're artists. Apparently when you try to strive for something new and fresh you get called a hipster for not just shitting out glorified ring tone music like Lady Gaga.
Remember when you were the kids listening to that music your mom hated? your dad told you to turn it down? Now these kids are who you are...who I am. If you don't get it, you don't get it, but at the least...remember.
@juanpisorin1 you kidding?! these guys are about 400 times as talented as so many people I've ever heard on radio 1- and I was classically trained too. I don't like her voice, but that's got nothing to do with the music she's written.
what's up with all this "hipster" labeling? Those calling others hipsters..what may your label be then? We all have em. Seems like anyone trying to make music right now, from the ages of 18 to 34..who write songs who share the same feelings, to those who inspire (be it content and/or musical style) are deemed "hipsters". Usually said in a negative connotation, mind you. But those who make empty money fueled "music" with NO meaning, what are they called? You guys should know..you're fans of em..
True, punkrock nowadays all sounds the same. She's trying to do something different. Btw : Why should Porrofirst be punched? Cause (s)he's got his own opinion about this song? Having an opinion of your own is very punk too you know. Punching in the face isn't ;)
I just love it when people are not afraid to experiment with music and play exactly what they want. Its what I respect most about certain artists. Micachu is one of those rare diamonds, and she should be treasured.
Wow, Saw Micachu and the rest just hours ago, this song comes ALIVE when they play it!! They have a serious energy live.
whenever i have to drive a short distance i play mica's songs, they get me all hyped up
I saw this on New York Noise then bought the video on iTunes. I think it's the kind of geeky, catchy riff-based tune that you can't get out of your brain for a while. I like it. I'm going to check out more videos.

This is genius. You find this challenging. Good. It is superior and demands the listener hear in a whole new way. I am in awe!

I can't get over that cute, cracked, half-smile of hers. It's everything that's right with the world.
I'm crazy for this band!! And Mica makes weird stringed instruments like a pro. I effing love her!!!

Wow. You've heard of Teenage Jesus & the Jerks. I think we can call off the search, we've found the new John Peel. Micachu makes the music she wants. And she makes it brilliantly. Other than name dropping No Wave, did you have a point?

I like what I hear. Very cutting edge.
Great exploration of sounds. My only beef is it's too short. Like most songs on this album. I wish they would explore for minutes on end. Would be really awesome to lose my self in.

@RawkRaw AHHAHA ''calm your hipster rage''. Made my day, man!
Lady Gaga, if I'm not mistaken, released a song actually CALLED "videophone". I think that kind of sums it up.

My mind's been blown.

Stop stop stop! Hollies!

She is my muse. I actually find her very beautiful.

Amazing
music died long time ago and this is a final nail to the coffin
Love it :-)
I like you best with this hair.
See them live and then you will maybe get the idea. This is music.
@blackgenet In conjunction to my comment, can you elaborate? Cause I'm not sure what you mean..
this is so true... IF you are talking about Disney Channel, of course
Um... okay. Yea, Battles are great. :)
Ian Williams, who is that? :S
Even Captain Beefheart would have approved of this number.

under what rock (npi) was I all these years? :/
Incred. where they from?

Beyoncé AND Lady Gaga. And yes, I'm sure it was the most artistically valid and articulate expression of Feminism since Angela Carter....
It all sounds like ring tone music to me.
@Yoursaffectionately I AGREE, Micachu are amazing, screw what anyone else thinks. xD

@Hollywoodantichrist and i don't "Go To Art School". *laughter*
THIS IS FUCKING BRILLIANT.
I meant it in reply to the people that state that she is unattractive, not as a random statement. :)

@wreck93 Jeez, what a hippie.
@mildred7 but she looks like an Aphex Twin nightmare!
cute.
@CelebrityHolmez: That is possibly the best comment I've ever read on youtube.
fun fun fun
