I didn’t know or had forgotten Colin Viljoen played for England. Only older Ipswich fans will remember him. He was a great player for us for many seasons and immortalized after scoring a hat trick against Norwich
@@user-zb2hj4nt9b probably. I should have mentioned, just because I think it doesn’t make it true 😂😂 My old brain probably has him mixed up with Mühren and Thijssen
McIlroy, Jennings and O'Neill were certainly top-level players. They were still representing NI seven years later, in that famous victory over Spain at the 1982 World Cup
I love this England kit. My grandmother sent me one, I'm Canadian, when I was 13 or 14 and my dad made me put the whole thing on so he could take a pic and send it to her. It was embarrassing at the time, but I'd love to find it and see if it's as cringy looking as I think it is.
The material on the replicas of this & dozens of others like them by Admiral and Umbro, were noted to rip and chafe the nipples somewhat aggressively. Ask any of us who were kids in the 70s and 80s who wore these shirts and even the school strips we used to have. Those glossy shirts in the 80s from around 1982 (esp LeCoq Sportif) were a joy....
Revie was useless Brian Clough should have been manager and we had a world class player in Alan Hudson but they didn’t like flair players no wonder we failed to qualify for two world cups
TBF Even Cloughie would have had a hard job getting this bunch of misfits to play together, we would have seen a totally different team and totally different ethics with Clough, I think he would have ruffled too many prima donna feathers!
We failed to qualify for the 74 WC at the expense of Poland who were an excellent side who went on to finish 3rd, so that was forgivable. The 78 campaign was dismal, losing out to a not very vintage Italy.
Interesting the fans and players referring to Ireland. They are the IFA after all and the FAI didn’t have a decent team back then. it was a time when the threads that bound us were greater than that which divided - before Darkley, Enniskillen& Omagh etc taught us that we were different, Northern Irish.
Weren't they little? It's a wonder they could stand up in a light breeze! Soccer was banned at my school. Resented that at the time but in retropect... Hmmmm... Its no wonder that the ascent of soccer has coincided with national decline. 😡😡😡
Bit of a non entity as far as entertaining football goes, But still prefer the old games to the current stuff, its almost become a non contact sport, and players going down with the slightest of touches, some are not even touched at all, which is a sad indictment of the modern game.
Youngsters today who write these games off saying they're poor don't understand the evolution of the game. In 75 it was more of a working mans sport, and not the finely tuned athletes of today (who, ironically, seem much more injury prone). And while the pitch looks good here, watch the ball as it rolls across it, it's full of lumps. People forget that just 10 years ago today's players weren't doing any better in an England shirt!
@@MaterLacrymarum Regardless of what you may think, the old game is far superior, because its simply unsanitised, good tackles, willing to sweat and spill the odd bit of blood, what you have now, is a bunch of pansies who fall at the slightest challenge, that's not football, its a -ucking joke.

Most international games are poor. England were average for 40 years. Of course, these were different times. The players weren't as fit, and watch hos the ball bobbles about on that pitch, it's clearly lumpy. The Home International tournament was a lot of fun though.
Very poor performance by England.Far too many bad passes.Emlyn Hughes no imagination very predictable. Why wasn't channon played from the start?Don Reevies suit should be humanly destroyed.

Me too. Not an Ipswich fan but that team of theirs couldn’t escape any fan's attention. Tbh I thought he was Dutch! You learn something new every day!

What a great guy Hugh Johns was. Always liked listening to his commentaries. No hysterics...made you feel like you were at the game
Hugh was an ITV Midlands Sector football commentator between 1968 and 1982.
Always fascinating to see full matches from the 1970s & 80s that are not World Cup matches or Cup Finals
This must be the only
International match where both the home and away side have the same national anthem?
No. England v Liechtenstein. Look it up. Britain stole it to glorify a family of parasites.
Comforting to see players taking the knee back in 1975.
Good day. Watched your next nice video and say thank you so much. Next like from yoyr subscriber living in country Azerbaijan
good to see the interviews !
These home internationals were great games they never should have stopped them.
I think it's fantastic to see these classic games. I'm a fan of England and Northern Ireland. What a beautiful uniform! 1:41.

Hugh Johns` excellent use of the term Boat Race
12:55 No Penalty? Never Mind. Let’s get on with it. 😂 Those were the days.
On both sides had the best goalkeeper in the world..Jennings and Clemence..
Both at Spurs in 1986. Jennings final appearance for Tottenham was in the Football League Super Cup against Liverpool January 1986.
Can't argue with you there. Only Banks could compare with them.

What a Very Very sad performance from England - are N Irish Brothers deserved much more even a victory 🇬🇧
Tbf decent NI team there ……. Jennings, McIlroy, O'Neill, Nicholl………..

Seen better games, but do miss the home Internationals, from back when i was a kid
Don Revie, that loyal England servant 😁
Cute to see the forward pass rule from centre kicks still in force.
Far more skill and flair around back then. Enjoyed whole game. I rarely say that these days.
No George Best..😢😢
Dave Clements. NI and Everton.

Hugh John's the commentator seems politically naive - he continually refers to the players in green as Irish, not Northern Irish!

Probably but not a barrier from representing us. Tony Greig was from SA AND England cricket captain.
