My wife and I, both 70, have a Catalina 350 booked for the first week of August in the Whitsunday Islands, in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Maybe I'll post again with some thoughts after we've had our fun. This video has really given us a clear idea of the interior - did you buy it?
I'm boat shopping too. I discounted the Catalinas and Hunters at first. My broker took me to see both of those brands. You get a lot of boat for the money. They both seemed well made.
Same story for us ✔️ I always thought Catalina as a boat for an afternoon sail at the lake, but their construction is solid. Which models did you look at?
I looked at Hunter 41 & 45 and Catalina 42. I asked Randy of Happy Together his thoughts on Hunter since he owned a H49 for 3 years and sailed the entire Caribbean in it. Randy's comments were "I would sail that H49 around the world. It is rock solid and so well designed." Randy. If it's good enough for the Happy Together crew, it's good enough for me !!!
@@SV-DEDICATED I guess I don't understand why I hear negative comments on the Hunters 🤷♂️ They have great comfort appointments, people like Randy sail them hard, and they're a great price. Sounds like they're great boats ✔️
Happy Holidays to the Foster's family. Awesome looking sailboat. The Catalina boats looks great. Just to pass this on to to Sailboat listings.com to look at the prices. Thanks for the ideal on looking at Catalina boats. Take Care and God Bless to you and Family. Greg
Omg that yellow boat was for sale here in st. Pete florida back in January 2018!!! I have pictures of us on it while on the sailboat hunt 😍 small world
@@TheFosterJourney 4.5 years . We also sail it every weekend 10 months a year. We are on Clear Lake, League city. Same neighborhood you are looking in. I have been sailing since I was 12. Lots of experience offshore and coastal.I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
@@charlesvanhoveiii948 I really appreciate your willingness to share! I think our biggest unknown is the limit...what have you found to be the most discomforting sea states for the Catalina 350?
The Catalina looks very similar to our Bavaria 36 (which is very beamy and 37.5 feet long) so I think it may well be a comfortable boat. Ask to test sail it and see what you think. If you like it and it feels comfortable then why not buy it? It does not matter what anybody else thinks - they are not on the boat.
She sails just fine. We sail in the UK where it is highly tidal - 30ft tidal range, 5kt tidal streams, etc - and Salty Lass does just fine. Now, I have no idea if Bavarias destined for the American market are any different from European ones, but I would expect the differences to be in fit-out rather than the hull. Watch the first 2 mins of this and you can see for yourself the sorts of conditions the boat copes easily with (you can ignore the rest of it as we where in port. The sailing is only in the first bit) ruclips.net/video/mGjmlShakmY/видео.html
Actually - Gaynor (who owns the port side of Salty Lass, I own the starboard side) has just pointed out to me that we did consider a Catalina once. It impressed us, but when it came to boat buying there was none around. The seem a bit rarer on this side of the pond.
I never thought of Catalinas as liveaboard sailboats, but this one looks really nice!
Funny thing is, we didn't either until we looked at them in person!
Great video! It was short, and I wanted to go with you to the next sailboat!
We'll have the next one posted in a week...hold tight, every two weeks. :)

No, we're still shopping. There's so much to learn and consider. I'd love to hear how your time at the barrier reef goes!

That's a sweet boat in a small package!
Yeah, it's a great boat!

Wow! I think it just sold last week here in Kemah.
It's a nice enough boat but I'm looking for something with a dingy davit. Nice video! Thanks.
Good luck!
Would definitely live on one with my wife.
Thanks for commenting!
These are THE budget yacht in demand for good reason.
That's true, solid, comfortable and great value.
That boat looked brand new...it was gorgeous. What year was it?
It was in perfect shape, and it's 2006. Can you believe it?
@@TheFosterJourney It seems to have enough room for a small family, too.
@@jordancarter5664 we think so too! 😃
I've been looking for our 1st live aboard. 3 of us also, but never thought about 35ft. Maybe it's time to look. If not 35 maybe 37.
It's a good size, especially if you can get good cabin space for everyone.
If you guys are both teachers . You may consider being tutors to Cruiser Families in the Caribbean
Do you guys live near Kemah? I did my ASA there.
Yes, and we're planning on doing ASA here too.
The Foster Journey I recommend sacket sailing. If you ever want to meet up and sail just let me know!
@@jeremyholland4527 thanks for the recommendation...and I'd be honored to go sailing with you!
I live on a Catalina 35. What would you like to know?
It's a great boat, how long have you lived aboard?

How long do you plan to be out for? Is this for weekend fun or a long journey?
Long journey...years, maybe oceans.
350 was very nice... How much?
It was very nice! I think I was for sale at around $60k.
@@TheFosterJourney : not a bad price.
@@TheFosterJourney Thank you
Maybe you guys could make a curriculum for Sailing cruiser Families Kids .
That's not a bad idea!!! Thx
Thats really a big boat for 35 feet! Was the price good?
The price was good... and well within our budget.

@@SailingYachtSaltyLass that's funny cause I'd be interested in looking at Bavaria sailboats, but they're not as available over here. 🤷♂️
