This ride means so much to me. It's the ride that killed my fear of rollercoasters and helped me prove that I can get over anything with enough courage. So many memories i have of riding this with my friends and family!
I once ripped my shorts down the butt from sitting on the rail at Goliath. I went home, changed my shorts, came back, and rode Goliath. lol I had ridden it many times before that. I lived 20 minutes away from SFOG
When I was very young, I remember riding The Great Gasp, FreeFall, & the Looping Starship. Thanks so much for making this video! Goliath is a wonderful coaster and that helix turn around section always makes my feet tingle. Love it! We are lucky to have it here in North Georgia.🌻🧡
Its so funny and cool seeing the old 2000s footage and the long lines its like watching a time capsule. In a year it'll be 20 years of Goliath and all that footage will be vintage
So so true! The second half of the video is my favorite with showing the footage from 2006. So cool to look back on it. Just crazy that there will be a day nowadays where you can just walk on to Goliath with no wait and bypass the line…but back then you always had to wait. Footage is definitely a time capsule!
this is my home park and this was my first ever roller coaster 🥲 life was simpler when i still went to six flags at least once a year thanks to my reading log
Expertly written, perfectly narrated and the editing was remarkable. I loved seeing this footage with your narration. I remember De Ja Vu, Wheelie and Viper. The history of Six Flags over Georgia is so rich. I hope to see you one day at our park. I remember my friends and me waiting in queue for Goliath for the first time in summer 2007. We were a little late. But there was a young kid ahead of us and his mom and he was pumped. He knew the height, the speed. Everything. Velocicoaster is my favorite rollercoaster but Goliath at Six Flags is a close second.
This brought back so many memories from videos I used to watch when I was younger right around the time this ride open. Honestly seeing someone finally make a video documenting the history of this ride truly made my day . Amazing work!
Thank you for watching and acknowledging this documentary! Glad you enjoyed it and honestly it was an enjoyable subject to cover! But I appreciate the love shown on it!
I haven’t been to Over GA in a decade, but went so many times during grade school (I grew up a couple hours away). My first visit was pre-Goliath, and when I went back for my 2nd visit in ‘07, all my friends and I’s jaws dropped when we drove up and saw it. My one regret that trip was chickening out on Deja Vu, which was gone by the time I went again. I love all your old footage and how you properly laid out the hype for Goliath when it opened. I’ve ridden so many hypers now that I didn’t even realize it was the first in the southeast. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
If it helps alleviate your regret, I'm pretty certain it was a miracle I was able to ride, seeing as it seemed to be cosplaying as a McDonald's ice cream machine and was broken down more often than not, so your chickening out may have had zero impact on your chances of riding.
I visited 6 flags ga last week and was blessed to ride Goliath for the first time. Did it twice with waking on with no wait 😌. Fun experience and thanks for sharing!! 💗
Bro this is so cool. I remember the announcement that my HOME PARK was getting a hyper coaster. I had just read a book about Nitro at six flags great america and I was wishing I could be a part of it. Thank you for putting this together to memorialize this amazing ride.
I was just at SFOG with some friends. We were there on the hottest day of the year, so I used that as an excuse to get out of riding the Goliath, but really that thing is terrifying. Thanks for covering my home park! I always get excited when SFOG gets a mention.
It looks so much more intimidating than it is!! I went this past Sunday in hopes of conquering my fear of rollercoasters. I seriously considered skipping Goliath, but I decided to go for it and I ended up riding twice in a row. Would have done 3 if I had time. It's not nearly as terrifying as it looks and I say this as someone who, until last weekend, was deathly afraid of coasters in general.
This is my home park. I remember driving to Atlanta to view the construction of this and riding it the day it opened. Now I just wish they would put a new coat of paint on it. And also build a dive or wing coaster.
I worked at the Great Gasp and Looping Starship in the mid 90s. The tower on the gasp had a control/break room at the bottom. It also had a ladder inside that maintenance could climb up to the top for repairs. I also worked at Free Fall and would collect change after park hours. Sometimes I'd leave with pockets nearly full of change.
Loved the video Miguel! Favorite ride for sure! Making me wanna go back over there and ride it wit you guys 😂💯🔥 can’t go wrong with this ride here! Very educational! Best hyper in the world
Thank you for doing such a well done documentary of this ride! It currently sits at number 23 on my top 30 coasters of all time. I love your intermission scene! Very clever!
13:40 I had this diagram and brought it to my elementary school when i was in 1st grade lol. Showed all the kids for show and tell and made everyone really excited for the upcoming ride. I genuinely thought id never see that diagram again!😂
Great video bro! Goliath was my favorite coaster growing up and it means a lot to me. As I have traveled to ride coasters it has fallen a bit in my rankings, but it’s still my favorite b&m hyper coaster and probably will always be.
I started going to the park in the 70's as a very young kid and The Great Gasp was the first "scary" ride I ever went on. I clutched my mom's hand with a death grip the whole time, but by the time we got off I was ready to try every "big boy" ride I was tall enough to get on, which at that age I am pretty sure was just the Mine Train - but still, I was off and running. I imagine I was far from the first coaster enthusiast to have cracked out of that Gaspy egg 😁. Great Gasp, you will be missed, but Goliath is more than a worthy heir - hard to believe it's almost 20 years old. Thanks for the great video and for daring to walk up to the top of the lift hill!
This was my home park, even though I lived an hour away. I was 7 yrs old when I went for the first time. I fell in love with rollercoasters when I rode the Scream Machine. Goliath is my favorite, Batman is a close second. My best summertime memories were made here! Thanks for sharing!
Scream Machine is such a good ride. It was my second major coaster ever. It was SO rough at that point and the experience was beyond unpleasant. I gave it another try when I went to SFOG last week and they did an amazing job with the retrack. They took this coaster from unrideable to truly great.
I absolutely love this! It's great hearing about what some of these Marquee rides meant to local thoosies and the local community as a whole. It's easy to forget that some of these top but not elite coasters mean so much to so many
That’s funny at the end but Goliath always be a beast. Goliath is definitely a must do when it comes to second home. A lot of celebrities would get on, that’s how I met Big Boi from OutKast.
Years ago, I was going through a hard time. My friend was as well and he suggested we go to SFOG for Goliath. We rode that coaster, screamed and screamed. By the end of that day, we were like new people. It seems silly that a ride would have so much of an impact, but it did.
I love this documentary! I just wonder if it wasn't for the Fulton county airport across the Chattahoochee if Goliath (and other rides ftm) would have been taller? That's why SFOG has a 200 ft limit on all rides. (Acrophobia, sky screamer, etc)
Glad you enjoyed the documentary! The Fulton county airport does affect the height restrictions. Sky screamer is the tallest ride in park history. The only reason it is able to be that tall is because where it is located in the park is lower than the front of the park.
I went to SFOG this past Sunday because I wanted to overcome my fear of rollercoasters. I debated going on Goliath all day and seriously considered skipping it, but I went to the park with the goal of doing this coaster so I figured I'd at least go into the station to see how I felt. By the time I got to the air gates the train was being loaded, so I had to commit. Was having major regrets on the lift hill but halfway through the ride it became an instant favorite, second only to TwiCy. I ended up going on twice in a row. My only regret is that I didn't have time to ride three times or more
I last rode Goliath Labor Day 2017 and it was easily the best coater i've ridden at the park. Unfortunately 7 years later its getting repainted to Turquoise and Grey if i'm not mistaken. It was time for a repaint, but I'm gonna miss the Orange and Teal paint scheme.
@@ThemeParksUncovered I know right. Funny enough, they have one listed in their passholder survey as a giga dive. That’s probably gonna be their next Goliath if added
I have been on every coaster in the park except for Goliath, and I am going to SFOG tomorrow. I have always been afraid of Goliath and I was wondering if anyone had and tips on how to get over my fear.
Just know that you are safe on Goliath. The fear mainly is in your head. Take deep breaths while going up the lift hill. Remain calm and honestly just enjoy yourself. I’m sure when you get off you’ll be laughing so much of pure happiness that you accomplished it
My papa helped build monster mansion, had a significant part and didn’t take any credit, just wanted to make something for his grandchildren more than anything, and that’s why I love SFGA
Lol I just had my first ride this past Sunday, I rode twice in a row, the first ride my vision got a little spotty on the helix but on the second I got a full grey-out
Goliath is in my home park. My family usually goes once a year, and nearly every year I meet a first time rider in line. Usually someone from elsewhere in the country. I always warn them that you HAVE TO breathe in just BEFORE you hit the low dip of the track and KEEP BREATHING IN, as you go UP. Breathe out when you get to the tallest sections. Otherwise, you WILL black out.
Just before opening day Six Flags had a grand opening ceremony with Ne-Yo performing. The park was only open to guest who had bought tickets. Park was empty and my brother and I road Batman and Goliath so many times almost losing track of time for Ne-Yo's performance.
Had someone in the front car puke on this coaster after the first hill and it flew right over my head. Most terrifying second of any coaster I've ever been on lol
It honestly looks so much scarier than it is. I used to be terrified of coasters in general and seriously considered skipping this ride, but literally halfway through my first ride it became my second favorite coaster in the park. After the first drop it doesn't feel as big as it looks
Goliath to me as a kid was the great monument to the growth of boyhood to manhood. Year after year, I waited till I could reach the coveted 54 inches tall milestone to finally topple the Goliath along with its older brothers The Batman and Superman: Ultimate Flight. When I rode it, the sheer bliss of adrenaline I felt as I spun down the spiral over top of the actual entrance to the park not only cemented myself as a coaster lover, but (in my 11 year old mind) a man. I've sought out and found much better coasters, but nothing will quite match the affirmation of a lifelong love of a hobby. Okay now imagine standing in line for 3 hours with no smartphone. Fuck that, right?
I remember being in high school when it opened and people in school talking about it plus long lines backing up the highway! Lol I was intimidated so I didn’t ride it then
All I know is after years of being terrified I was convinced to go on it when I was in 7th grade. Some girl in front of me’s braid came out and literally scratched my cornea💀I’ve vowed to never return
In 1977 as a 5 year old I almost slipped under the seat belt and fell from the top! On the same trip my mom broke her ankle trying to reach back catching her purse that flew off her shoulder on the Great American Scream Machine! Good times!!!
I'll never forget opening day. I got stuck at the VERY TOP for close to 45 minutes 😂 I do wish the wheelie, the great gasp, and even dejavu were still around.
From what i heard there were rumors that the park originally wanted it to go over the highway but eother couldnt afford it or the train wouldnt have enough steam to make it back
SFOG had the chance to go big again for 2024/25, but instead went with Georgia Surfer.. even after getting butchered by Fun Spot's Aerie Force One in 2023.. Let's hope with the meger of Six Flags & Cedar Point, that the new management sees the potential of SFOG & FINALLY gives this park the new additions it deserves!!
Rumor has it that with the new corporate offices being moved to Charlotte, SFOG would be the main SF park and Carowinds would be the main CF park. This means that OG would get a lot of attention it deserves
Guys, I have a SEVERE fear of Roller Coasters, but SFOG is my home park, only about an hour away, can I get a list of least extreme to most extreme so I can build up? I'm going next for my sweet 16 which is October 18th
I mentioned 3 cause I just know I've seen 3 before. If I'm remembering correctly that is but if so then they rarely use all 3 but hope you've been well man!
No, it never had a 3rd train. And the 2 trains are completely rebuilt every year so it’s also never had a completely new train since opening. There’s no blocking except the lift and the final brakes so only 2 trains can operate. But no trim outside of the speed trim if the train exceeds the expected speed.
@@RobertUlrich I did mention that they consistently run 2 to 3 trains. 2 was indeed correct and I swore at one point they had run 3 but I guess I was mistaken! Hey sorry about that 😅. They definitely do provide a fair amount of upkeep on this coaster aforementioned which is awesome. Overall, hope you enjoyed the video!
I always thought Goliath was the calm coaster at six flags (less inversions and smoother ride) until I took my sister on it as her first roller coaster and it took her almost four years to forgive me lol
This is my home park, and I went many times as a kid, but it turned into complete trash around the 2005s due to parents dropping off little shits as a daycare. Might be different with the recent changes they have made. Best memory of Goliath is my buddy getting smacked in the face while going over the first hill. It was like it was in slow motion.
I went this past Sunday and it was honestly great. Not sure if it was just for Fright Fest but they had lots of security around all day long, so nobody was getting away with any funny business
ruclips.net/video/Uny6BJVPL1g/видео.html actually, you missed a few, the Superman: Ride of Steel coasters at SFDL 1999 (Intamin's first hyper), SFA 2000, and SFNE 2000.
honestly you are right. Although intamin calls those Mega coasters not hyper coasters, they are still hyper coasters to me. I should’ve added those. I thank you for bringing that to my attention. I appreciate that! Hope you enjoyed the documentary

lol that’s crazy! Hopefully it didn’t ruin the experience for you! Lmk your final thoughts at the end of the documentary!
I got stuck for around 15 minutes at the top but that was only like 2 years ago
@@ThemeParksUncoveredgreat video man. I agree, definitely needs a paint job for sure.
@@MrPizza_0919I’ve only seen that happen when someone has a phone out on the lift hill but that’s still crazy that happened to you
@@TRJ2525thanks! Truly appreciate it and really glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏽
From what i heard there were rumors that the park originally wanted it to go over the highway but eother couldnt afford it or the train wouldnt have enough steam to make it back
I’m going nest week with my friends, do u have any tips for ride order? I’ve never been to over Georgia
We'll for sure see soon if over Georgia will get the attention that it needs and deserves with this merger
I'm going next for my sweet 16 which is October 18th
my home park!
A great home park to have!
Goliath is rather infamous for feeding people walking in from the parking lot with an endless supply of change, hats, and shoes.
Does Goliath have a 3rd train? I always thought there were only 2. Great documentary btw
I mentioned 3 cause I just know I've seen 3 before. If I'm remembering correctly that is but if so then they rarely use all 3 but hope you've been well man!
Oh and glad you enjoyed the documentary!
And check that out…southern accent in Atlanta! Back in the day buddy…back in tha day! 4:53
Haha right! Pure deep southern accent
my good ole home park
Indeed!
The best ride at SFOG hands down.
Not sure if it was just for Fright Fest but they had lots of security around all day long, so nobody was getting away with any funny business
i’ve only ever passed out 1 time ever in my life and it was on goliath, i will never ride that mf again 😂
One time I rode it 10 times in a row, it didn’t go well.
ruclips.net/video/Uny6BJVPL1g/видео.html actually, you missed a few, the Superman: Ride of Steel coasters at SFDL 1999 (Intamin's first hyper), SFA 2000, and SFNE 2000.
honestly you are right. Although intamin calls those Mega coasters not hyper coasters, they are still hyper coasters to me. I should’ve added those. I thank you for bringing that to my attention. I appreciate that! Hope you enjoyed the documentary
My mom rode this coaster
Did she enjoy it?!
@@ThemeParksUncovered yes
@@Coasterguy7764 awesome!
It’s rough now…tear it down. Only one coaster in that park that is untouchable rough or not….scream machine.
😂
