Just a small update and possible PSA: After this incident I have received two private messages on my instagram account from people offering free Spotify campaigns specifically for my track "The Obsidian Tyrant". Keep in mind that the track is no longer available on Spotify. One message was from a Mason Anthony: "Hey Dol Ammad and team! Can we give you a free Spotify campaign? I work with the curators at @ edgecurators and I’d love to get ‘The Obsidian Tyrant’ or a different song to our curator team." The second message was from a Matthew Murphy: "Hey! I'm an A&R with @ Real.Playlists and I'm reaching out about, Dol Ammad. Do you want to work with our team on a free Spotify campaign? I think 'The Obsidian Tyrant' could be a great fit for some of our curators." It is clear to me that my track has been placed without my knowledge into some very rotten lists and I can't do anything about it :( Please avoid these accounts if you receive similar messages. We must fight against the enshittification of the music platforms and protect the value of music. Space on 🚀
Dude, I'm so sorry this happened to you, it's bullshit. As good as streaming is for getting music out to a wider audience, the fact that you can have your own music removed for something you didn't do - or in the case of Ola Englund whose music was stolen and reuploaded by someone else, and then Ola had copyright strikes put on the songs HE and The Haunted wrote - makes it infuriating. The fact that CD Baby isn't even bothering to hear your appeal just goes to show that they don't care about the artists. This is why physical media is so important. We need it for preservation of music, to show the artists we appreciate and recognize their work, and to keep things ours. Streams can disappear just because some schmuck in an office says "Uhh, this might be a bot, fuck it up" ; my CDs and vinyl will be here for years.
Exactly yes, I am fully committed to bring back physical releases for all my albums as soon as possible. I watched Ola's situation and it is yet another nightmare scenario. What is even crazier to think is that if you choose to skip all the streaming platforms and just do your thing on physical formats or Bandcamp, you then risk at any time that someone may upload your work as theirs in the streaming platforms.... Good luck sorting that dumpster fire! So submitting music to streaming platforms is an unavoidable necessity any way you look at it. Thank you for the comment and the support my friend!
What a ridiculous "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. It's horrible that the platforms have such power over artists and they can do this without any evidence that the alleged fraudulent activity even exists. I wholeheartedly believe in customer ownership of media, not just in music but movies, games, even downloading RUclips videos you don't want to lose. And it's crucial for consumers to realize the fleeting nature of today's digital-only paradigm. Great idea if you can bring back the physical format for your recent albums. I'll be proud to own a copy of Monad!
It is indeed horrible to realise what they have done to music and it is extremely infuriating to realize that you have no power against them. Even deciding to ignore them and not distribute your music there is a bad choice as anyone can then upload your music as theirs... I too believe very much in the ownership of media and I am also downloading RUclips videos of tutorials, old interviews and rare music that you can't find anywhere else and I am afraid that may disappear at any time. I am also recently setting up a personal streaming platform for my music collection using Plexamp. Thank you for your comment and support and yes, I am actively trying to accelerate the return of physical formats for my music, I'll report back as soon as possible with news. Space on!
Exactly yes, it is terrifying to think that this may happen both randomly and maliciously by anyone who either tries to trick the streaming system or is actively trying to hurt a particular artist. The systems of these corporate tyrants are flawed and rigged to their advantage anyways. It is somehow poetic that this happened to "The Obsidian Tyrant" track... We now need Aiden to arrive and trigger the rebellion! Thank you for the comment my friend.
So sorry to hear this -- you seem like a genuinely good guy. I hope releasing to RUclips helps you a bit, it's where I have been listening to your work.
You are very welcome and thank you for watching the video. I was unsure if I should publish this video but in the end I think raising awareness of the issue is very important.
I’m sorry to hear you had this experience. I’ve heard the same story from other minor artists and it’s outrageous because you are penalised for things that are not within your control. Yet more evidence of the fact that Spotify is not a friend of the independent artist.
Exactly Kostas, they are a necessary evil at the moment that we need to find ways to change or abolish. This is issue is becoming more and more widespread with musicians the more I search and learn about it. It is crazy. Thank you!
@@ThanasisLightbridge I think if independent musicians stick together we will find ways to fight this evil. Best of luck with getting your track back on the platforms!
This is such a bad system. Someone can essentially buy fake streams for any artists to sabotage for them. What's stopping someone to spend 100 euro for fake streams for a much bigger artist? Nobody can know who did it? This has so many flaws.
Exactly that, yes. It is a nightmare scenario that you can do nothing about... Something must change in this terribly flawed system that we are all forced to follow...
This is utterly ridiculous! So someone can weaponise this and attack musician's livelihood and their ability to put bread on the table, and the musicians are helpless against it... big tech is so evil and faceless these days. I am deeply saddened by this my dear friend Thanasis... :(
This is exactly my biggest fear right now dear Harry... I feel so defenceless in this matter and can't see how I can continue uploading music without the fear of similar crazy things taking place without my control... Thank you ❤
Thank you for the comment my friend, it is indeed an extremely annoying situation. Just wanted to bring awareness of the issue and move on. Music is much stronger than these corporations.
@@ThanasisLightbridge And now my song has been added to a playlist called "CHART PROMOTIONS" which clearly is a bot service. :( I reported it to Spotify but fearing my music will get taken down too!
Sounds like a bot attack. They put your new release on their scam playlists hoping you will pay them. The problem is when it’s a new release you have no streams so you quickly pass the 90% fake streams number. Most of these bot farms operate out of Finland (either vpn or local) so not distributing to Finland on Spotify helps a lot. Their bots can’t play you. Also never feature yourself on hyped it or cd baby new release pages. A lot of scammers troll those feeds for who to attack. I haven’t had a single bot attack since doing the above. Best of luck my friend!
Hey thank you very much for that information my friend. I've never featured myself on the platforms you mentioned or ever done any other PR or marketing campaign. I will investigate your mention of Finland and Spotify. I am seriously considering not distributing on Spotify completely... but I am still not sure. After this incident, I have received two messages on Instagram that offer promotion on Spotify specifically for this track which is now excluded from Spotify. So something rotten is surely happening all around...
Maybe everybody listening to obsidian tyrant for ten days straight after it's release over and over again triggered spotify's "fraudulent activity" alarm. What an unacceptable, unprofessional and stupid behavior from these douchebags. Don't let this bring you down Thanasis, keep spacing on!
I thought about that to be honest, as the track was very successful (for my standards at least) compared to my other tracks. But this would be even worse, it would mean that they penalise you if you make successful music or that you are not allowed to have a "hit". I believe that most likely someone placed it in a fraudulent playlist as a way to include some legitimate tracks to avoid detection. This or someone really hates us and wants to harm our music on purpose. Anyways, this issue really disturbed me and I am trying to get back on my feet. the last 10 days I was in shock, anger and despair. It feels so dirty to have these douchebags control your work. I put so much love and effort in my music and at the moment the only thing helping me keep going are these comments and the support of friends like you. Thank you!
They are indeed a very shady company. It pains me to see so many music listeners and musicians sharing their Spotify wrapped everywhere and making this marketing crap more and more mainstream. 😡

So any person can destroy another artist's entire catalog by hiring artificial streams... Nice system, we know who the real tyrants are!
