Truly, the creative predecessor in many ways to this one, this one seems to have the same heart, but is both acknowledging the dangerous energy of the relationship between himself and the viewer, and also just outright telling us that he's not just a funny singer, he's not just jokes, he wants to say real things and comedy and clever rhyming are valuable tools to make a point - but we can't always expect that from him. I desperately want to see what Bo's take on a full scale broadway musical would look like.
As a Bo fan we've heard other people talk about what he's saying to death. It's very interesting to see you talk about it from the music POV, please expound whenever you want. Don't know much about playing music but it's very interesting to hear you talk about the cords and how the sound plays into what he's doing.
It's a great performance too, a lot of places he could have made a mistake, and he nailed it. It's a great synchronization of movement with the sounds.
Yeah, unlike "Welcome to the Internet," this isn't one of Bo's overtly "funny songs." More of an outpouring of anxiety, need, and sadness that happens to be set to a poppy synth track. Great catch about the battery draining! :)
I always like how any musician reacting to Bo's music seems to have to restrain themselves from joining in and making it into a kick-ass jam sesh if they happen to be near an instrument. It makes me smile.
I loved your technical breakdown of “welcome to the internet”, and then seeing you rendered speechless at this one… you’ve earned your subscription, good sir. I might just buy a guitar now.

@@AnxietyRat i know that, that's where i listen to the songs without getting on netflix. The point is you cant see the songs from the album on youtube unless you go to bo's account
The strongest point musically of the special was the lyricism and the quality of production. In terms of melody, syncopation, etc, it's not groundbreaking, it's just well done. The special as a whole is worth a watch, and the music is an indispensable part, but on it's own, if you just took the notes from the songs, they're not breaking new ground, because they don't need to. Bo, whether intentionally or not, kept focus on the visual elements and the lyrical elements of the special by not trying to also crank the music up to 11. It's catchy and it's good, but it doesn't pull focus away from the other mediums that really drive home the themes and messages Bo wanted to convey. Yes, I love seeing people review this content, but we don't need to push Michael to review every single song.
i don't think many people were pushing him to review every song, there's just a lot of people recommending he give the whole special a watch some time himself which i honestly couldn't recommend enough
I heard bo once described as not wanting to hurt you, so he pulls you in close with the comfort of his comedy, and then he whispers the truth you need to hear into your ear... And he pretends he's a pompous a**. Hes not. This special, in my opinion was an outpouring of his empathy for the rest of the world.
I wasnt aware of where Bo was at. I gotta catch up on his journey. The value of your channel constantly compounds for my growth, and that's whats I appreciates about you's.
Go watch "Can't handle this" From his Make Happy special. I believe it was one one of his last shows if not the last show before he went on his 5 year break.
Having grown up in church, something about the chord progression played on a pad like that is supremely effecting. The trance it lulls me into makes me listen closely to the lyrics. I start laughing and then I start crying. It’s an odd feeling to experience these emotions in a secular context when this was a religious thing for me.
been watching your vids for a while, but watching you genuinely not be able to pause and watching your hand move towards the space bar to pause but not actually do it was amazing! Speaks massively to how impactful this special and this song really are even to those that arent well versed in bo's stuff. love your work man. Great reaction. much love xx
I feel like a lot of people clicked on "All Eyes on Me" because they thought he covered Tupac. "That Funny Feeling" is a great song from the same special, and he plays acoustic guitar. For something a little older, try "Art is Dead".
The way he looks directly into the camera just a moment before saying "Are you feeling nervous?" gives me chills every time. It feels like him pointing out exactly how he felt on stage at times.
I love how incredibly genuine your response was to the music and it's message. You went in with the goal of dissecting the chords and you ended up so captivated that you couldn't even bring yourself to pause the song. That was wonderful to witness.
Seriously, you really need to just watch the whole special instead of getting videos piecemeal. I know you can't do a react video to that, but it is truthfully one of the best pieces of art I've seen in years, and losing the context of the entire piece really does the individual songs a disservice.
YES. It's really upsetting me how many people are watching the end without seeing the beginning. "Content" is so fucking goooood, why can't people react to that one instead of spoiling the end of this artwork for views. I would absolutely love to hear Bo's thoughts on people reacting to the end of his special because they know it'll get them views...
@@m.a.sperry3424 if you think the context doesn't matter i really don't think you were paying attention to the theme and progression of the special as a whole. that's like taking any song from a Broadway musical and telling people it's not worth seeing the whole thing for the context, just listening to the one stand alone song is enough to feel the full impact of the production.
You say a lot of us aren’t guitar players but honestly that’s what made me enjoy the other reaction so much, it gave a different perspective compared to most people just watching. I love watching you find the notes and try to play along while watching for the first time. Keep it up man!!
Hi, Michael! At 2:19 you suggested that the song has "the common I-V-vi-IV progression". I think the progression here is arguably IV-I-V-vi (B - F# - C# - D#m). I know you were working it out on the fly, and going off just a few bars of the song at that point- but I figured it was worth mentioning (especially if anyone tries to play along using I-V-vi-IV and it ends up sounding "off"). Since it loops back on itself, I suppose you could make the case that it's still kinda like I-V-vi-IV, but shifted over by one bar? In practical terms, though, it seems that the melodic phrases (and thus the 4-bar loop) start on IV and end on vi. I'm enjoying your content! I stumbled upon your reaction video to Bo Burnham's "Welcome to the Internet" a week or so ago. I agree with the previous comments that 1) definitely give the whole "Inside" special a watch, if you get the chance; such an amazing piece of performance art and commentary in its whole form, and 2) "That Funny Feeling" would be a great song from the album for you to react to / break down. Keep up the great work!
You should check out “That Funny Feeling” from this special as well. Either Bo’s version or Phoebe Bridgers version, whom you’ve featured before as well. I’m sure you’ll love it.
This song is oddly one of the most emotional songs ever. Honestly, as quirky and comical it is cause Bo is a genius, it’s euphoric. It’s nostalgic. It brings such a peaceful feeling
Inside is a metaphor, not only for quarantine, but also what it's like to be trapped within your own fears and anxieties about the world. The line "you're not gonna slow it, heaven knows you tried. Got it? Good, now get inside." Is describing not only how difficult it is to solve larger issues like global warming without first fixing parts of yourself, and how persistent that little voice in the back of your head can be, to tell you to give up and to go inside. To not try to improve yourself, to be complacent with the way things are. It's a really hallowing song, in my opinion. The larger themes of the special is how the internet consumes us and makes complacency ok. "Got it? Good now get inside"
dude your reaction is so earnest. your hand hovering, wanting to pause and commentate and on the other hand your eyes glued, wanting to consume more. fucking awesome.
The most profound part of this video for me Michael, is when the second drop hit with the second verse and you paused to listen, then instead of saying anything about the verse it felt as if you just let the lines speak for themselves and then play along with Bo. That was pretty cool, if ya ask me.
I don't play Guitar or understand music cords however I would still enjoy your interpretation of the song. I was recommended your channel by YT via Bo's songs but your personality is extremely positive hence why I subscribed. Thanks man
"hes an absolute master of intrigue" wow....That such a perfect way to describe him. He really knows how to be silly and serious and keep you absolutely captivated.
This song pairs really well with "Goodbye." "Goodbye" gives some of the themes alluded to in this song, but in a more upfront manner, such as no one wanting to adapt to entertain during the Pandemic. The song just before this one, "That funny feeling" is a very good song, basically talking about existential dread, where Bo plays the guitar very nicely. Definitely recommend checking that one out next, if you do another song from "Inside."
Love your content and channel man. Bo is so multi faceted as an artist. This special is speaking to so many because of its significance and relatavility. Bo fucking nailed it and this will no doubt go down as one of his most accomplished and celebrated works of his career.
I think you'll definitely like his campfire song That Funny Feeling, it's also got a pretty simple chord progression but the song is catchy as hell (also quite depressing lol)
I don't know what it is about this guy's reactions that's so captivating. He just seems so genuinely fascinated by people. He's so excited for the music. It's great to see
As someone who subbed because of the last Bo video, and as a casual guitar player, I loved when you shared your musical interpretation and knowledge in the last video! That's what makes you stand out from other people reacting to this! Don't let that niche go to waste man :D Keep it up
I love your genuine reaction to this. From an artistic professional musicians perspective, this utterly floored you and you could tell. There is nothing more magical than when someone TRULY resonates with a song they have never heard, and it was beautiful to see it happen. That's as real as it gets. Fantastic example of passion for the craft. Thank you for sharing. This video brought tears to my eyes and not because of Bo's song.

I'm genuinely torn between wanting to see your cold, first-time watch reactions to all of the songs in Inside, and hoping you watch the whole special. It's so much fun seeing someone geek out so enthusiastically over the music itself. I know almost nothing about music, so I'm learning so much!
I’ve watched this video too many times, and reactions twice as much. You’re the first person to mention the battery. I never even noticed. Awesome job. Can’t wait to see some more!
"I'm not even gonna go back and torch you all with that because I know most of you watching are not guitar players, probably" noooooo! that's why people love your reaction to Bo Burnhams music, you give a whole new understanding/perspective of his work!
I think these picked up so much because this exactly mirrors the awe and enjoyment I had the first time watching this special! It's fun to see that reflected in someone else especially when they have the musical knowledge!
Moreeeeeeee. I love watching how amazed you are when you listen to a Bo Burnham song (and appreciate his genius with lighting / videos), just as much as I love watching the actual Bo Burnham videos. Should 100% try out one of his older videos "Words words words"
You might want to react to Can’t Handle This. It’s from the tour he was on five years before and addresses the panic attacks he was going through. While also satirizing Kanye West, observational humor, and the situation of a depressed performer trying to make their fans happy.
@@thebatman1482 I’m sure we can split hairs over satire vs parody vs tribute. He’s emulating Kanye’s format and using it to tell jokes. He even jokes that Kanye spent most of the rant complaining that his $90 t-shirts weren’t selling. I labeled it satire. If you feel it is a tribute, that’s great,
@@willjohnson8446 Yeah the great thing is that he can mix both things. Of course he finds Kanye kind of funny, but I loved his rendition of Runaway, it was really a beautiful homage, sort of in a Weird Al Yankovic kind of way
Inside is the best thing I've seen in years and I haven't even recommended it to any friends because I just don't know if it would really resonate with them the way it did with me. And if it did, I don't know if I can be the one to give them "that funny feeling" that just won't go away since I watched it. Seriously the most infectious work i've seen in so so long. I agree with others, even if you don't react the the entire thing, you should watch the full special before reacting to any more songs from it, it really does need that context, and I feel like you'd enjoy it. This song in particular is so much deeper than it seems. "Intrigue" is such a great word for this, it's so unclear exactly what you're getting into. I appreciate you doing these Michael, I know your main thing is dissecting the music, chords, melodies, etc, and Bo's stuff isn't really about that, it's more about emotions, thoughts, experiences, and the like.
"You can't go anywhere, like you must continue" That has to be one of the most poignant ways of describing Inside as a whole. Especially because of how much it deals with his struggles with mental health and how that feels to him.
I highly suggest making your next Bo video his Kanye Rant from his Make Happy show. It's at the end of the show, of the last tour he did before his 5 year break, and watching it and All Eyes On Me together makes each make so much more sense.
@@prettykittyy6205 I honestly failed out of Kanye Rant the first time I tried listening to it, bc he does a good job of misdirecting at the start, but when I finally watched the whole thing through it made me *cry* it was so good. I've probably watched it at least 50 times since then at it can still make me cry.
Holy shit! I’ve watched Inside and specifically All Eyes On Me over and over and never caught the detail of the battery going out towards the end. Great catch!
He is using pitch correction to deepen his voice. Also, listen to "can't handle this (Kanye rant)" It's somewhat silly, but more poignant when you realize it's all about struggling to fit in.
Its so interesting to see you getting to know this artist ^^ your genuine reaction to him is really something. You analyze his work and get fascinated :). It is so amazing to see someone experience something for the first time and being blown away postively , because you can experience some things only once :) . Hard to describe but it is fun seeing the reaction
A lot of people reacting to this tend to gloss over or miss the date “January” 2020, after him saying he had quit and locked himself away from the world for 5 years, finally built up confidence and made himself better, then come that date, a global pandemic happens
Michael, I LOVE your reaction videos. And when you covered “Welcome to the Internet,” I had a similar reaction to everyone else. It was a joy to see you, a really talented musician and music teacher, experience Burnham for the first time. But now? I have to join the chorus of people here in the comments pleading with you. Watch the whole show. It’s an incredible work of art. If we, as a species and civilization, survive the moment we are in, then this show will be regarded as THE piece of art that captures this moment. Please, please watch the whole show. And keep on keepin’ on. I’m a huge fan.
Also I would say, what makes your videos blow up, is that yes you are talking about something people who dont play the guitar are searching, but your perspective on it with the guitar is what makes it more interesting to us non guitar players.
No, his voice does not sound like that, it's being manipulated. I highly recommend doing a bit of a deep dive and checking out some of his older stuff. A lot of the older songs where it's just him and his keyboard or guitar, way less production value, but some of my favorite stuff of his. I've always gotten a kick out of his sarcasm and double entendres.
Yep, it's all just stylistic choice. There's a video somewhere on YT where someone's sorta reverse engineered to get as much of his natural vocal track of this and it's super. My vote for next react is New Math.
I really hope this comment catches your attention -- In order to better understand the progression to the video you just watched (All Eyes On Me), you need to watch the last video he made before his five-year-hiatus called "Can't Handle This (Kanye Rant)". Things will make a lot more sense in that context. In reference to the short dialogue Bo made in All Eyes On Me about quitting for five years and the panic attacks, that was a true story and the irony was that he got mentally much better by about January of 2020, which is precisely when the Pandemic hit us and caused our country to "shut down". So yeah, he got better and then had to stay indoors anyway and essentially lose his mind all over again.
Yesss, I loved your reaction to "Welcome to the internet" and "All Eyes On Me" is my favorite from this special. Can already tell I'll love the video dude

Yeeeess!
As a Bo fan we've heard other people talk about what he's saying to death. It's very interesting to see you talk about it from the music POV, please expound whenever you want. Don't know much about playing music but it's very interesting to hear you talk about the cords and how the sound plays into what he's doing.

"I don't know why I'm so captivated."
You and me both, brother
This man is definitely going to shed a bucket of tears when he watches the special
You’re so captivated by it because your taking a look at a piece of his soul.
I can’t recommend “we think we know you” enough. Seriously, from a musical standpoint, it’s incredible what he does.
It's a great performance too, a lot of places he could have made a mistake, and he nailed it. It's a great synchronization of movement with the sounds.
“I don’t know why i’m so captivated by it” is the theme for his whole special
"I don't know why my life has been nothing but Bo Burnham for the past 6 weeks"
Yeah, unlike "Welcome to the Internet," this isn't one of Bo's overtly "funny songs." More of an outpouring of anxiety, need, and sadness that happens to be set to a poppy synth track. Great catch about the battery draining! :)
Wow! I hadn’t notice the battery draining and never saw anyone else mention it either. But in the context of the song, that’s so insanely brilliant.
I watched the special last night and I saw it and I got this really upsetting knot in my stomach watching it lower
I always like how any musician reacting to Bo's music seems to have to restrain themselves from joining in and making it into a kick-ass jam sesh if they happen to be near an instrument. It makes me smile.
"I don't know why I'm so captivated by it"
Internet - "Yes"
This whole special is.... a masterpiece.
I loved your technical breakdown of “welcome to the internet”, and then seeing you rendered speechless at this one… you’ve earned your subscription, good sir. I might just buy a guitar now.
“Everyone told me I had to watch his Netflix special, so I went to RUclips and chose a random video”
Watch the special!!! You will love it
In his defense he said full special, not Netflix special.
@@SW_Y9 all of Bo's special are on Netflix. What's your point?
@@justinwoods2757 that he doesn't know who Bo Burnham was until "Welcome to the Internet" which he watched on RUclips. Odds are he never watched any of his specials. Also he's calling the special an album.
Other than when he quoted the comment. When he was quoting the comment he said special but after he says he searches bo burnham on RUclips and this is what he finds from the Inside album.
@@SW_Y9 Bo did release an album of all the inside songs. So he isn't wrong about there being an album of this specials songs.
Agreed
i don't think many people were pushing him to review every song, there's just a lot of people recommending he give the whole special a watch some time himself which i honestly couldn't recommend enough
The special is incredible, even if you’ve heard some of the songs.
He really set a bar for comedians AND musicians with this.
I like how everyone reacts to the "Got it? Good, now get inside" part.
It gives me chills everytime. One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
@@keithallen6339 thank you so much for the info. I will have to check it out.
Oh is that what you appreciate about him?
@@ryanlloyd9292 allegedly...
@@ryanlloyd9292 What? I don't understand what your point is.
... Because it's captivating, Michael. Love seeing that expression on your face!
I really love your breakdown, man. Im a huge fan of Bo, but this Really brought something new to the table.
Love this reaction. He just gets so captivated and doesn’t know what to do. I felt the same way watching Bo’s special
Having grown up in church, something about the chord progression played on a pad like that is supremely effecting. The trance it lulls me into makes me listen closely to the lyrics. I start laughing and then I start crying. It’s an odd feeling to experience these emotions in a secular context when this was a religious thing for me.
Really enjoy seeing you react to his music because you have such a genuine appreciation for it
You should do "that funny feeling" next! Loving the Bo videos
been watching your vids for a while, but watching you genuinely not be able to pause and watching your hand move towards the space bar to pause but not actually do it was amazing!
Finally! Someone mentioned Bo's greatest song ever (my opinion, of course).
"Art Is Dead" alone was enough to make him a comedy legend.
The wall of harmonies gets me every time.
The way he looks directly into the camera just a moment before saying "Are you feeling nervous?" gives me chills every time. It feels like him pointing out exactly how he felt on stage at times.
I love how incredibly genuine your response was to the music and it's message. You went in with the goal of dissecting the chords and you ended up so captivated that
you couldn't even bring yourself to pause the song.
Have to watch the whole special!!! It's starts off silly, but delves deeper and deeper and finishes very intriguingly
You should check out “That Funny Feeling” from this special as well. Either Bo’s version or Phoebe Bridgers version, whom you’ve featured before as well. I’m sure you’ll love it.
For the love of god plz react to the whole special. I have a feeling you'll really enjoy it
This song is oddly one of the most emotional songs ever.
I've been waiting for this patiently.
dude your reaction is so earnest. your hand hovering, wanting to pause and commentate and on the other hand your eyes glued, wanting to consume more. fucking awesome.
I love the joy in your expression when you are experiencing music. Love your stuff man, good shit
It's great to see
The first Bo song that I actually enjoy as a stand-alone song. Didn’t know he had it in him! Cool tune
This is the only one for you?
If you watch this song in the context of the entire special it'll make you cry
You NEED to watch the entire special on Netflix!
As someone who subbed because of the last Bo video, and as a casual guitar player, I loved when you shared your musical interpretation and knowledge in the last video! That's what makes you stand out from other people reacting to this! Don't let that niche go to waste man :D Keep it up
U gotta do more bo Burnham stuff
I love it!
I love your genuine reaction to it. You're starting to get it the more you talk about it. I hope you keep watching the special
Ohhh there are so many for you to discover…from gods perspective is a gem
I love your genuine reaction to this. From an artistic professional musicians perspective, this utterly floored you and you could tell. There is nothing more magical than when someone TRULY resonates with a song they have never heard, and it was beautiful to see it happen. That's as real as it gets. Fantastic example of passion for the craft. Thank you for sharing. This video brought tears to my eyes and not because of Bo's song.
Gods perspective, country song, we think we know you, can’t handle this; fall down the rabbit hole. Bo is a musical comedian, the comedy is excellent, his piano skills are top notch
Omg yes!!! I wasn't sure if u were gonna do another one of Bo's songs I'm so glad u covered this!!!!!!
If Michael gives in to us he will do his entire special plus a few of the old ones :))
officially a Sub now for these Bo vids.. you totally called it too, not a guitarist haha.. im a drummer but i knew how genius Bo and his concepts and compositions are and this special was!! its awesome to hear a more fluently capable melodic musician to better explain just how or why he is so genius.. Good stuff my man
if you want to go down the rabbit hole, check out his "country song". you'll love it 😁
I watched it the same way you did after he took the camera in his hands, holy shit i was breathless and just watched the whole thing captivated with a mix of tears and big smile.. i LOVE this song
"I don't know why im so captived by it."
Welcome to Bo Burnham. Please indulge further.
We aren't guitar players but I wuld have loved to see you dive into that segment of your own break down of the song that you stopped yourself on. Don't be afraid of being the most knowledgable person about a thing in a room. Go in on 'em! Loved the video.
I'm genuinely torn between wanting to see your cold, first-time watch reactions to all of the songs in Inside, and hoping you watch the whole special. It's so much fun seeing someone geek out so enthusiastically over the music itself. I know almost nothing about music, so I'm learning so much!
I find myself feeling this exact same way. His fresh take is amazing as it’s pieced apart. But I also would pay money to watch him watch Inside live 😅
@@prettykittyy6205 oh same. "I don't know why I'm so captivated by it" made me laugh out loud because that was me during the whole special.
I’ve watched this video too many times, and reactions twice as much. You’re the first person to mention the battery. I never even noticed. Awesome job. Can’t wait to see some more!
“You have nowhere to go but you must continue.” I’m not normally one to quote parts of RUclips videos, but that struck a cord. So to speak..
Yes guitarist are watching, I found you tonight watching reaction videos. I like you're showing and telling what note they go threw. Good job man
"I'm not even gonna go back and torch you all with that because I know most of you watching are not guitar players, probably"
noooooo! that's why people love your reaction to Bo Burnhams music, you give a whole new understanding/perspective of his work!
I think these picked up so much because this exactly mirrors the awe and enjoyment I had the first time watching this special! It's fun to see that reflected in someone else especially when they have the musical knowledge!
You're missing at least 40% of the music by listening with no headphones, dude. The layering and harmonizing of his vocal tracks is flawless.
I mean, it's not satirizing Kanye, I actually think it's the biggest tribute possible since it basically uses the runaway ending in a brilliant way
@@thebatman1482 I’m sure we can split hairs over satire vs parody vs tribute.
THIS! They really do go hand in hand.
@@plamtsm yesss it’s definitely a deep hard hitting moment
You should watch "We think we know you" and "Can't handle this" next
Holy shit! I’ve watched Inside and specifically All Eyes On Me over and over and never caught the detail of the battery going out towards the end. Great catch!
He is using pitch correction to deepen his voice.
Also, listen to "can't handle this (Kanye rant)"
It's somewhat silly, but more poignant when you realize it's all about struggling to fit in.
Never cried at a description of overfilling your burrito before...
He is not using pitch correction, aka auto tune…. This is his voice, just pitched lower
This is toward the end of the show, when he is depressed nearly to the breaking point
you being unable to hit pause put the biggest smile on my face great reaction
A suggestion for another react: Rodrigo y Gabriela. Think flamenco metal. I personally really like Diablo Rojo but they have newer songs as well.
Discovered this channel through "Welcome to the internet" : D Love your video style. So authentic! Love it!
Thanks!!
