UPDATE! I made a slight error right at the end. You CAN put Fusion Compositions into Power Bins!! But you cannot put Fusion Clips into Power bins! My apologies!!
It has to be said, but you are absolutely the best Resolve content creator on RUclips! I like how you are just a normal guy and stayed true to yourself for all these years instead of becoming some RUclips appropriate persona. Heyyyy! I've been abit under the weather hence the quiet-ness on the channel. But finalllllyy starting to get back to my usual self. Made this one because it was an easy video (and remind myself how to make videos...) but also super useful for noobies. Enjoy. Hopefully back to normal service on the channel from here 🙂
Your channel is incredible. I’m trying to make the jump from Premiere to Davinci but I’ve been using Premiere for the last decade, tough to get fully comfortable with Davinci just yet. Maybe there are things about Davinci that are relatable to other editing software? Might make for a great video for folks like me who are looking to switch but are having trouble breaking the muscle memory. “In Premiere this thing here does this, but in Davinci all you have to do is this!” Something like that… I dunno. Thanks for all the amazing work!!
@@ChaosMarine9118 i believe in the top left of your screen, or probably through the settings menu, you can change your keybinds to match other software, i think premiere is one of them. Here Daniel shows how to do it in a short. ruclips.net/user/shortsNs7Pr97Z3_0?feature=share
Sir, you deserve a medal. I came for the power bins and learned two more things that I really wanted to know and didn't even know where to start searching. Thank you so much!
Power Bins might've been the first Resolve tip I learned from one of your videos... definitely something that deserved an updated video for Resolve's growing family!
I don't want to save adjustment clips, it doesn't work in my workflow. Why can't i save attributes and effects directly like in the case with premiere pro? Every attribute that i want transform, color, effects, audio fx within one preset which i can just drag n drop over my clip and done 👍 Finding it really hard to go about this in davinci

Thank you Alex I am learning so much from you. You show everything very clearly. I have watched 3 videos from other RUclipsrs today and I was still not able to get the software to do what I wanted. But with you, I was able to do it the first time. Thanks so much!
I have been needing to do this for so long. Thank you. I actually have a base project I use for all my stuff and I constantly have to update the base project with new stuff. This will streamline my editing process so much.

Superb overview of Power Bins, Alex. Thank you so much. It would be really handy for DR to allow for true folder references so that when you perform a drag and drop of folders to a Power Bin (or any bin) - underlying changes would be tracked.
Great video, thank you. I haven't been using powerbins yet, probably time to start since I use a lot of the same footage. Great breakdown Alex, thank you.
Hey man... really helpful and on point Videos. Thx I reply to this video as its the latest. Just wanted to let you know that you can get rid of the slight phasing in the higher frequencies that happen once in a while on the voice track, by switching to linear pcm in the export settings. Its not very noticeable - especially when having music in the background. Not even sure if you have noticed yourself but coming from an audio background i can hear it via headphones. For example 0:05 - 0:08 if you listen closely there is some metallic phasing on the voice popping up. I have had this issue myself and simply switching from aac to linear pcm resolved the artefacts completely. So just wanted to provide something helpful back.
I need this area to be like a file browser. For example, if I take a snapshot of a clip to make a thumbnail, it should be easy to open my thumbnail project, go to the power bin, and take the photo directly from there, rather than having to open Windows Explorer or Favorites in the Media tab. It seems that Blackmagic ignores such default ideas, as well as the idea of snapping clips in the viewer area.
Good video! 👌I would be insanely happy if finally Compound Clips would work in the power bins. So far I always have to drag a title into the timeline and then drag the matching sound file from the power bins into the timeline again. It's not that bad, but if you have a lot of titles in a video and you want to underlay them with sound files, it's time-consuming.
You CAN save compound clips containing only Titles in the Power Bins, I do this all the time. So if you have an arrangement of Title clips on different tracks, you can select them, convert them to a compound clip and move it into a Power Bin.
Hi, I keep trying to drag my modified 'text+' box into a power bin and it just doesnt show up. I have run out of options and watched so many videos to try and resolve this. can you help?
Alex, very helpful! Question: You set up Power Bins as pointers to your hard drive Resources folders. But if you drag an element from your timeline into Power Bins via the Inspector File tab, where is it saved by Power Bins? In your example at 5:04, you dragged 2 timeline clips into Power Bins, then created a new folder in Power Bins named Effects and dragged the two clips into the new Effects Bin. Where is that Effects Bin/Folder saved? Did Resolve put it on your hard drive in your existing Resources folder? That is unlikely so I'm thinking Power Bins objects could be anywhere and everywhere.
Surprised to hear you say you can't put fusion compositions in a power bin. I am a bit of a noob so I might be confused about something but whenever I make a VFX in fusion, I change the media in node to use the background instead of the timeline and then drag the clip into a power bin. I can then use that affect anywhere else I fancy by just dragging it above a clip.
It was actual a slip of the tongue which went unnoticed Doh! You can put Fusion Compositions in, however you can't put Fusion Clips into Power Bins! Argh. I'll do a pinned post!
Has this option (power bin) disappeared in resolve 19 update? I do not have those ...'s and searching doesn't bring up power bins either. Additionally, if I go to 'Workspace > active panel selection', Media folders is greyed out. Is it a me problem? or a free user problem? tyi

Since you keep your media arranged in sub-folders on your storage and drag them into the Power Bin and new files added to sub-folders don't get included, is there a way to say tell Resolve to "update powerbin contents" from said locations and thus include files that have been added in since? If not this is a must have feature for BlackMagic to incorporate. Cheers.
I'd love to have a "Reload Power Bin Location" option as I use one for my raw video material. I'd have to drag & drop the folder every time i want to cut something into davinci resolve as the newest files are missing. With that option, i could directly tell Davinci that it should add new files by it's own into the power bin structure which makes my life a bit easier.

I’ve been using Power Bins for a while but I’ve hit a problem since I created a projects database on an external SSD. I have two databases - one on the main drive of my MacBook and one on an external SSD. My power bins work just fine for the database on my hard drive but not for the one on the SSD. I can put an item in (I’ve tried it with adjustment clips and other things) but when I drag it out onto a timeline Resolve asks me to allow access to a file location and by default it shows the cache-clip location on my hard drive. I don’t know what drive or directory I’m supposed to select as whatever I choose I get a “file not found” error and the item from my power bin then disappears from my timeline. Anyone else had this? Is there a solution?

So you dragged a title onto the timeline, which is cool. but now try it with a video or audio file. what happens? it will create a duplicate in your regular bins (master folder).
