Bob Iger's handling of Star Wars and his entire administration of Disney has been a curse filled with idiocy, laziness and corporate greed in the worst way possible
@@rodbarnes9624 funny you say that. The last.. 5 years? will be a large book of case studies in bad management. Disney will have its own chapter, based on how many billions in potential revenue they left untapped due to very poor decisions that were based on poor understanding of the many IP's and customer base. To say nothing of insulting that base on social media.
Ya know, there's a part of me that feels like somewhere out there is an assassin who traveled back in time Terminator style to try to save Star Wars, but was a moron, so he accidentally to the wrong time peroid killed the wrong Kennedy... twice...
@Rafael Mauricio Without the LBO hanging over their heads and the interest from it, TRU was still turning a profit - not a great profit, but still a profit. And that's with one thing that they didn't have to worry about until Mittens and his vulture capitalists got in there: rent. TRU for decades had a policy of always owning the building their stores sat on so that recurrent expense was eliminated. Enter the vultures and, like all these other companies they destroy, first thing they do is sell all the land. Amazon did TRU no favors, but it was the LBO and corrupt 'leadership' that killed them. Blaming Star Was is like saying the loud shirt someone was wearing is what killed them and not the .45 that put a bullet through their skull.
Seriously? I was actually not aware of that. What happened? I am from Germany and TRU Germany actually was one of the few profitable parts of TRU and allowed to exist a bit longer until it got dragged down by the main company _and_ the market here in Germany does not rely as heavily as the US market on movie-related toys, so the news when TRU Germany went down barely touched the Star Wars topic.
I wrote this before and I write it again: it's absolutely mindbaffling how Disney handled the SW franchise.G.Lucas literally sold them the licence to print money for decades to come and they just threw it in the toilet.
doubleP pretty much think Lucas squeezed as much money he could out of it and then sold the dead carcass to Disney. After the crappy prequels, Disney needed to do something special to revive the franchise. They did the exact opposite
@@rickhunter6513 Wrong, Lucas sold it because he could not bare the attacks he kept getting from the internet, he even stated that he thought being attached to star wars would hurt it more than giving it to disney (where Kathleen ensured Lucas she would threat the characters with respect) if George threw away a dead carcas he would not care to boycot episode 9. He would not care to step back in into disney after Disney fucked it up, let's be fair here it is even a goddamn risk that he takes the weight back on his shoulders. I never hated the prequels. I almost did thanks to too many bashings on the internet and people telling others to hate it just because.. But I can still watch them and enjoy them. Just as much as the OT (which really weren't perfect either) Ofcourse each his own opinion. But saying George Lucas didn't care or threw away his dead horse to Disney that is not fair.
runawayfreak well, like you said, we’re all entitled to our own opinions. No one influenced me to detest the prequels. I thought they were garbage when I saw them. I was Lucas didn’t use any of the source material from the first 3 movies. Lucas also screwed with the original trilogy adding all that extra CGI crap. On top of that he’s banished the original theatrical releases never to be seen again. Screw him. Seriously, you really think he was that soft that he sold his franchise because his feelings were hurt because some people thought the prequels sucked? He knew he didn’t have the magic anymore after the prequels and sold it to Disney for his last cash in. I can’t imagine Lucas doing any better then Disney except maybe his movies wouldn’t be filled with SJW crap.
@@rickhunter6513 I do think that, let's be fair George would never admit he didn't have the magic anymore as it was never his intention to begin with, he liked to experiment with his movies and so he did (for better or for worse indeed) I never understood the extra CGI but at the same time it didn't bother me at first as I never saw the original release. But indeed it seemed very unnecessary, but I guess George is an artist who's vision keeps changing over time and feels like he must adjust his older paintings all the time (which is often not a good thing). And his baning of the original cut is indeed a dick move but it does show he doesn't just do shit for the money because a re-release of the original cut would seriously bring in big bucks now, you can sell an old cut of an old movie for quite a high price and people would buy it.. would seem genius to me. But I do think he did have issues getting alot of hate, some later interviews you can see he is exhausted by it, having said that the praise he gets now and how much Disney wants him back probably will relight his fire BUT I do fully agree, don't expect miracles. You will get prequel quality at best. And I say at best because not only do we have to deal with his vision, but now George has his own vision but also a heavily damaged franchise to work with. I mean it won't be RoS or TLJ level of bad and certainly lose the SJW focus. But I do agree on that part.
My niece and nephew are obsessed with the original trilogy, and Luke. They didn’t even recognise Rose Tico or Rey at all when they were looking at toys. They saw The Last Jedi twice. Lol.
SilverSonic2099 It was magical watching them see those movies. My niece screamed when Vader cut off Luke’s hand, and my nephew was horrified when the Emperor was cooking Luke with lightning, then he cheered and leaped off the couch when Vader saved him. They were bored out of their minds in the new movies.
to fill the void SW leaves might I suggest the V franchise Mobile Suit Gundam [Zeta, Wing, Seed & 00 are the best but all are pretty good, skip SD Gundam tho, it's more or less for kids] Expanse The Orville Battlestar Galactica original and remake [skip BSG80] Red Dwarf earth final conflict Starhunter Robotech Voltron original and Legendary Defender Ghost In the Shell 95 movie, GITS2, SAC S1&2 and Solid State Society at least [skip the 2000's remake of the first movie and the big Burningwood live action travesty] Dark Matter [ends abruptly at season 3 so I'd suggest not bothering with the last 2-3 episodes unless you wanna be angry but it's a really good show] also try the movies Oblivion Outlander [it's technically a futuristic version of the Beowulf legend mixed with some predator/alien horror elements, its indie as well and amazing stuff] Arq on Netflix is good as is Spectral Forces, Arq is a time loop and Spectral is like the movie Navy Seals or Zero Dark 30 meets Ghostbusters without the comedy, it's better than it sounds also try The Day The Earth Stood Still 1951 and Forbidden Planet 1956 and there's the usual sci-fi suspects to watch.... *****
That one Hasbro Leia figure looked so butch and manly you'd think she was Princess Abby Svetlana Leia Organa-owski. "Alderaan has no weapon but ve have space golf club..."
Something my dad taught me. "If it says collectable or limited edition...it isn't. The only things that appreciate in value is stuff nobody realized would be hard to find until it was too late."
Perfectly describes the milsurp firearm market in the states. A few decades ago you could get a shopping cart of Mosins, Kar98ks, 1903 Springfields, and Lee Enfields for cheap. Nowadays it's hard finding some of these guns for less than $500 that weren't victims of Bubba's toolshed.
And it is no coincidence or surprise that The Mandalorian tv show was under the directorial supervision of John Favereau & Dave Filoni who understand and appreciate George Lucas's storytelling and mythos. Which is the complete opposite of Kathleen Kennedy Jar Jar Abrams and Rian roundhead Johnsons Disney/Lucasfilm Star Bores trilogy of suck!.🤔🤫🤭😄😁🤯🤢🤮😱💩
Yeah, I'm a bit of an expert myself and it's true that toy sales were terrible for the sequel trilogy. I'm happy to see that sales are rebounding due to the Mandalorian and a renewed focus on OT and prequel trilogy toys.
1977 Christmas morning, a very happy day for me at the age of 7!! Got the X-Wing Fighter, the TIE-Fighter, Lukes land speeder, and several action figures all made by Kenner Toys!!
>Drive a beloved franchise into the ground >Tell the incensed fans if they dont like it, don't watch it >WTF!? Why are toy sales down!? Marketing geniuses.
True story, when episode 9 was coming out my walmart had this big star wars display for the “skywalker saga”. It boasted toys from ep9, posters from all 9 films, some random stuff here and there. Guess what was sold out. All of the posters for episodes 1-6, all classic charcter toys, and who was left behind? Reys, kylo rens and D-O’s.
They went to so much trouble to add that lamp welded to a hamster wheel just to make toys and he is probably the worst selling toy of an already bad batch.
Yeah. Look at all these children who bought fallen order and watched mando and will buy that new xwing vs tiefighter game for you Disney. Perfect! Makes sense. Makes sense.
In the last seven months, I've slowly acquired a dozen scaled replica _Star Trek_ starships and shuttlecraft from Eaglemoss. (See my channel for the videos, I won't spam the links here.) Ranging from 3"- to 10.5"-long depending on the Edition you buy, there's over a hundred to choose from, with excellent molds and materials, and fair paint applications. (The paint QC on some can be questionable while others are flawless, it depends on which replica you get.) Definitely not for children (die-cast metalllll!), the customized display stands insure there are no peg-holes in the back or bottom of the replicas, and no visible screw holes. If there is any downside (aside from a couple of bad paint apps, and how they fucked-up the molds of the 10" _Enterprise-A_ TWICE IN A ROW), it would be that ships on-screen with moving parts do not have those same moving parts recreated in the replicas- prominent examples being the warp nacelles on the _U.S.S. Voyager_ and captain's yacht _Cousteau,_ and wings on the Klingon Bird-of-Prey and Reman _Scimitar._ Also, none of the replicas are to scale with each other, even though there are some coincidenes in this area. (For example: the 3.5" Standard Edition _Warp Delta_ is in-scale with the 10" XL Edition _NX-01 Enterprise,_ but they were not made to be such, since there is also a 3.5" Standard Edition _NX-01 Enterprise_ as well.) Price ranges are (with free shipping on all order above $65!): - Standard Edition (3"-4") USD $25.00 - Special Edition (6"-8.5") USD $55.00 - XL Edition (8.5"-10.5") USD 75.00 Finally, all replicas come with a dedicated short magazine for each ship (6-16 pages depending on the Edition you get) included for free! I should point out that, if you are a fan of NuTrek, then there _is_ a dedicated line for -std.- And- amusingly- there are no releases planned from either -shit treks, star tp- or lower decks. HOWEVER, there _is_ a brand new [unrelated] replica line for _The Orville_ starting in August 2020! XD
@@user-lk2qf4rt3m Disney is also charging an assload of money to produce board games etc... They are just sitting on the ability for anyone to make anything. Not that anyone would want too nowadays. LOL
Cool Fact: Jurassic World toys were (and still) outselling Star Wars toys since 2017. The franchise was actually the top brand last year. According NPD Group.
They are not stupid at mcfarlane, they cancelled/didnt show interest for various toys from US movies/series and they made many anime series, i love their attack on titan figures.
Look down the toy aisle. Star Wars has Rey prominent on the displays and there are usually several female figures prominent on the pegs. Little boys see that and think “toys for girls”. Toy companies know (and have known a long time) that girl characters don’t sell well to little boys, but Disney is forcing them to try. They turned a boys toy line into a girls one and neither are buying.
And from the comfort of their self contained echo chamber, these facts will never sit well with them. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Guess their greed is second fiddle to ideology.
I kind of doubt that the main reason boys weren't interested in Rey figures was because she's a female character. They probably aren't interested because she's kind of a lousy character. For all its unrepentence as a 20 minute toy commercial, the 80's GI Joe cartoon made me, an at the time under ten year old boy, want all the female character figures as much as the men. This was because despite there being relatively few female characters, the cartoon made them out to be, at least to my 8 or 9 year old mind, as competent and interesting as Duke or Snakeeyes or all the other male characters. Kids are not as dumb as many adults seem to think. They recognize when a character is boring or pointless, and don't want to build imaginary stories around a shitty character. Unless they're specifically taught otherwise, boys and girls, (especially the under the age of ten) will often not care what gender a character is as long as they were interesting and entertaining.
This may be true for many kids, but my brother and I always liked the female characters, usually more than the male characters. His favorite has always been Aayla Secura, and when we played with toys, we always used the female jedi.
I think they just A) dont recognize her B) didnt like the film; so dont want the toys C) live in a gen where toys lose in importance anyway; replaced by touch screens D) When we were young; Disney put out good shit and so we linked the mouse to good experiences; therefore we were more likely to express our want for such a figurine. Nowadays; when "Frozen" means more to every kid than the name "Disney"; you cant really expect kids to do the same.
Toy companies do not "know" anything, they ASSUME (wrongly) that girl characters won’t sell well to little boys. That is completely false and is a mentality I'm sick of. Most of my favourite characters have always been female, ever since I was a kid. Take the Swamp Thing cartoon for example. My favourite character was (and still is) Abby Arcane and I've always hated that they didn't make an action figure of her.
The Star Wars toy line began with kids buying CARDBOARD (the pre-order promising that figures were "coming soon.") Now... Disney can't even give the dumb merch away. Sad how far this franchise has fallen.
Most of the new characters looked lame as toys(especially Rose is just a girl in a jump-suit, the new star ships are kind of generic too). If they at least looked cool people would still buy them for displaying purposes or to play with
George actually took a pay cut to get those merchandising rights, which the studio gave him because they thought the rights had no value. And they DIDN'T have value - until George Lucas built a giant multimedia empire out of them, and then Hollywood started trying to copy him. George was also the pioneer for Lego licensing with TPM, all the Lego tie-in stuff we have now came after George paved the way with a licensing deal for the Prequels. Before that Lego's policy was they could only have weapons if they were historical enough to be passed off as vaguely educational, like pirates or medieval knights. Kids had to give their Lego men antennas and shit and pretend that was a lightsaber. But George said no, let's have an actual Lego Darth Maul with lightsabers and blasters and everything. And it was such a success that now Lego tie-ins are a massive cash cow in their own right.
@@finalsecretofchrono1339 Not as far as Lego is concerned, it was facing the same shaky future that all physical toys were back in the 90s with kids increasingly being drawn to electronic entertainment. Licencing saved it and made it a juggernaut in the toy industry. Then it brought out its minifig sets which sealed the deal, kids love consistency with toys so if everyone has lego that's what they want plus the same toy means they can interact with their own toys better. Now lego has reality tv shows, it also has a whole spinoff range which deals with programmable robotics.
I vaguely remember pre-TPM space weaponry and some cops & robbers stuff, but for the most part, yeah, not much non-fantasy before TPM brought us Star Wars stuff and the cool pieces that cam with it
@@Catubrannos For sure, I get business-wise it was smart. But the brand sort of lost its magic. Those old pirate, space-station, and castle series were unique, and created an open world for kids, and their imaginations.
@@InfernosReaper I remember them having jails but not weapons. I had a space vehicle set and it had a jail too, but no guns or weaponry. But there were definitely old-timey muskets and cannons and things, and swords and shields, in the historical sets. So I think they had a general rule against guns etc, but bent the rule where they could call it historical/educational.
simple answer--NO Kyle Katarn, No Mara Jade, No Durge, No Jacen, Jaina, or Anakin Solo, basically--NO LEGENDS characters remaining in this new Disney controlled shit show!
The eu books ar enow my greatest treasure for sure.. Ive been recruiting alot of SW fans to read "Shadows of the Empire & Courtship of Leia(gotta start small) because Zan trilogy & esp Truce Bakura start off super boring.. *i would say The NJO was the highest high for me w/ SW.. Waiting for "Traitor" to come out wa sthe greatest time for sure... Kyp Duron is/was soo awesome.. The Kylo actor/character shoulda been Kyp..
I don't think I'd want to see Disney's "reimagining" of any of those characters. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. All those wonderful characters left untainted. No Mara Jade being turned into a poorly written Mary Sue, Kyle Katarn getting treated like TLJ Luke, Admiral Thrawn behaving like a moron on screen due to incompetent story telling, or Darth Talon getting a woke redesign. Kind of like when I hear rumors of Disney making a KOTOR themed line of films. All I can think is "Please don't".
I gave all of my EU books away after TFA came out. I had tried to avoid all the trailers so I could be surprised and when TFA was over all I wanted to do was throw my soda and popcorn at the screen. I was so mad and dejected. The EU had great characters and plots that were cast aside for that sh*t.
Hole crap they had horses in a star wars movie and on a star cruiser and riding them out side.👀👀🤣🤣🤣🤣thank god I stopped watching anything on new star wars I relive my childhood by watching the classics. I said when that rat bought star wars it would give my beloved Star Wars the plague. And I was right.
Yeah, that shit's even dumber to actually seen on a screen than whatever you imagination came up with when you first heard about it. . This new stuff sounds like what people who are high off their asses would do while playing a bad Star Wars RPG campaign
It's a shame that Disney mismanaged the coming together of almost EVERYONE involved in the original Trilogy (right down to the three lead actors and THE ORIGINAL MUSIC COMPOSER)!!!!! There is no reason this 3rd Trilogy had to suck, other than Kathleen Kennedy's obsessive Purple Hair Political Positions that she FORCED on it and its originally enthusiastically PUMPED UP audience.
They say Eisner was the "Man who almost killed Disney." i believe Bob Iger more than deserves that title, who knows maybe in future he will be the "Man who killed Disney."
Iger was put in by Eisner, but Eisner continually said he lacked creativity. Eisner was responsible for many failures but unlike Bob Iger he was willing to take creative risks.
@@cryingdove0 True, I'd love to see more original films and creative risks than the same slop they now recycle constantly from their older more successful movies, but who wouldnt? Unfortunately probably won't change anytime soon.
lol They did miss out big time, when they didn't have baby yoda plushies ready for Christmas, this is all a huge signal that something is wrong with them.
Of course Disney won't learn. Even if they had an inkling, I just don't see them letting George back near the fold for any reason. Sadly, Disney is cutting off their nose to spite their face. After all, 0% of $0.00 = $0.00. But if theyd let George jumpstart the Licensing/toy sales part of the business, it'd be a win-win for everyone. There'd be a slim chance of it IF Favreau & Filoni were in charge. No way it happens under the disaster of Kath Kennedy
Its cruel, yes, but I tend to give them a lot more things. Pallets of toys, clothes and health and beauty products. They kind of have more than a Rose Tika for Christmas; recently I had a pallet of iPhone 4s and 4Ss mixed in with a pallet of iPhone 7s.
Question: Why has there been no ROS toy line?? Me: A long time ago, in a movie theater far far away, there was TLJ and it was here that the franchise died. And the toy line began to bleed out, until it's death when the ROS released.
Perhaps,,, for me it died with The Force Awakens.. No Luke new Jedi Order,, Han a deadbeat dad & husband who abandoned the princess & lost The Falcon.. Another DeathStar super weapon,,No New Republic,,,, They shoulda had Luke trick everyone and save his father at end of ROTJ.. AfterAll it was only his breathing aparatus fried from lighning.. Of Course Vader had lighning protection in his armor but only went so far.. Luke coulda shoulda saved him & he would haveta keep it on the DL.. I actually thought Snoke was Vader.. They did a New Jedi Order together but ANakins darkness kept coming back until Luke bounced his ass.. **NO,, The Force Awakens sucked! Look at what JJ did with ROS fo proof... He oculda done anything... Even had Luke & Ben awaken from a force vision early on in the movie to say it was all a "what if" from the force... nope.. My hatred at all of em with be eternal.. Im not a hateful person at all but this hurts for sure... Thank god for the books...Best Luke ever!
The franchise died in decline. Tlj was bad but the real damage was done by concerted efforts to demonize the people who didn’t like it that continues to this very day.
Wait the space horses were one of the things they added into the movie during reshoots because they thought that scene would be better then what they already had? Good lord if that was supposed to be better I can't imagine what the scene that was replaced was like.....
Disney kept adding "whimsical cute animals" and other kiddy fluff you'd see in a typical Disney movie like Rose Tico and BB8, ect. But Starwars was always more stylish and cooler than that, sure it had comic relief but it was aimed at boys and it knew what that they would think power ranger looking storm troopers, samurai looking villains, lightsabres and WW2 inspired space fighters would look badass. Starwars was an action adventure fantasy that was every young man's dream to go on an epic space Odyssey and become a mythical hero, Disney tried to turn it into something for 5 year olds to go "Aw that space horsey is cute!" Just look at how lame Rebels looked Ugh...
you know your going to keep blowing up doom, when you have channels that cover star wars switching to complaining about your channel blowing up that means you are intended to keep skyrocketing keep up the good work
They are obsessed about one guy in a mask making videos about a multi billion dol!ar company. If Doomcock all by himself can make the giant corporation squirm, doesn't that make him a hero along the lines of Robin Hoos, the Minute Men or even a certain farm boy from Tatooine But no, to the shills it is the giant corporation that is the plucky hero and the one guy with a video camera who is the evil empire.
Well, where Star Wars merch is concerned. I did have 1 dream come true. In the 90s I collected SW micro machines; still have them today. I also played the X wing and TIE Fighter games. Back then. I wished they made TIE Defenders, Star Wings, and TIE Phantoms. After 25 years of waiting, they finally came in the form of a board game. 25 years of waiting. As happy as I am to finally have them, I didn't want it to come at such a high price for the fandom.
I saw the Star Wars toy section in my Walmart over the last 5 years go from a 16ft display to a 12ft display, then to an 8ft and eventually 4ft, and now the only Star Wars toys available for purchase in the entire store are 2 different styles of lightsabers, all the while Marvel, WWE, Jurassic World, Fortnite, Lego, and Hot Wheels toys are selling just fine. George Lucas created the money making machine, all Disney had to do was maintain it, and they couldn't do it for more than 2 years.
But...but...but what kid doesn’t want to play with a purple haired lady in an evening gown, or a girl wearing a potato sack who preaches about horse racing and rich people being bad? I mean every kid should want a grumpy drunken uncle action figure with green milk dribbling down his beard? And how about the completely non-threatening villain who loses at everything and just throws temper tantrums?
He’s been on another RUclips channel, I think Geeks & Gamers wearing a lucha libre mask and you could hear his real voice. He’s just a white dude from LA.
If it was KK, I would break the laws of physics, reach through the computer screen and wring her neck 'til it snaps. If it was George Lucas, my jaw would drop to the floor and I would faint, just to reawaken and faint over again.
Share holders should be even MORE furious with Kennedy. Her incompetence on RoS not only ruined the movie (not that it every had a chance) but the constant changes also contributed to losing out on all that toy revenue.
I bet Santa's elves looked at the Rose Tico toys and slammed a faulty label on all of the boxes along with the label "Return to sender!" Toy companies, likely thought "Lets not bother, maybe the movie will sell the stuff that still on the shelves!"
They failed to inspire or connect with me. I couldn't spend money on items that only served to remind me of a conflicted experience on screen. I didn't want to be reminded of anything from those films. The only film I was interested in was Rogue One but even then they spared no one and that left a sour taste. I would have liked to own an example of the U-Wing. It's too much like when I watched Saving Private Ryan, I love that movie but it's rough to take when you get attached to the characters.
@@SuperDonk80 It landed the point so to speak, but it makes it hard for me to rewatch it. I was hoping the blind fella and his big buddy would at least have made it out. It's true that some of the rebels escaped too with the plans but I really liked the team they had.
The merchandising avenue is a very salient point for all the troubled sci-fi franchises. It is probably a truer barometer for success or failure. I would like to hear more about this.
What kills me is that they actually put the space horses... in the trailer. I mean wow, I’ve refused to see The Rise of Skywalker out of principle, but the fact that they put that shit in the commercial trying to entice people.
Episode 1 - 3 shelves full of toys, even in the mid time there was always a devoted section for Star Wars. Episode 7-9, nobody wanted to stick them any place on a shelf.
A while ago, just after Rise of Skywalker premiered a gentleman came into the target I worked at and returned 20+ Star Wars figures, he said that it wasn’t really worth it to have so many and that it was a waste of money and time
Kids don't really play with toys anymore. And the only people willing to purchase starwars merch are pissed off by the treatment of the franchise . They also don't really have anything interesting to offer from the new trilogy. To put things into perspective I'd rather buy a Rick Olie figure over anything from the new trilogy..
I remember seeing Star Wars toys (and general merch), in most stores. Not just at Christmas but throughout the year. You'd always something with "Star Wars" printed on it, be it bed sheets or toys. However, since about the start of 2018, I've not seen one single Star Wars product on sale, beyond that of the DVDs/Blu-rays. And when I see them they are usually at the back of the store without advertisement. Amazing how Disney tanked the Star Wars I.P. Seriously takes a massive amount of effort to ruin such a great IP. Almost as though it were on purpose. I hope that Disney is proud of what they've done. They've killed the metaphoric Golden Goose!!
Before the Disney sequels, I would have said that it was actually impossible to destroy the SW IP - it was one of a few absolute Sure Things in this world. Now though, I can honestly say nothing will ever surprise me again.
Not made in 3,75 scale iv never seen? Only those new 5 inch figures whats the point a new size in the 3rd film not compatible for kids to play with the last two movies figures its a dusgrace if honest i was fuming for my collection but more so my sons, whatever movies come in the future i wont get fugures not a chance i know now they could do the same whats the point spending thousands on toys for 1 or 2 movies then the 3rd you cant get the kids get upset dont understand and as a collector my collection looks stupid example i have near full on show the force awakens and the last jedi then 3 figures all i could find for the rise of skywalker ive actually given up and i guess sell them or give them away fool me once not twice hasbro.
Your commentary on the state of the Stars Wars franchise is very true. As an original SW fan it’s in a sad state of affairs, but listening to your humor makes up for it.
Sad. I remember going to Target and getting Star Wars Legos and Micro Machines. Coolest toys ever. I even saved up for a Darth Vader coin bank that would light up and speak whenever a coin was dropped in. Things ain't like the 90s anymore... or even the 2000s...
They're very smart at managing their brand. They price their kits like collectables, not toys. So unlike most every other toy, Lego retains a lot of it's value even after it's been opened. A rare kit that's missing pieces, decals already applied, damaged or missing instructions, and no original box will still sell for many times it's original retail price if it's no longer made. Which is another secret to their success: they set a production limit and stick to it, no matter how popular a kit is. This also sets them up to make a ton more money when they rerelease or remaster a popular kit (The various Millenium Falcoln models are a good example)
I remember when as a kid, there were some packs that came with two action figures and a comic book. I got Durge, Ventress, A’Sharad Hett, and many others and thought that they were the most awesome figures. It’s a little sad seeing what the figurine options are like today.
@@steffensgary - Try looking in discount stores, since that's where they all seem to end up. Of course, that's only the Disney disaster toys, the current Lucas era releases all continue to sell well. Don't take my word for it, have a look at World Class Bullshitters series of videos on Star Wars action figures (in reality shelf warmers), the glut of them that are now sitting in discount stores and the serious decline of the Star Wars brand that they represent. Your kids are about the only ones that would play with them then, since it looks blatantly obvious that no other kids want them around.

I've been collecting Star Wars figures since at least the return of the line in 1995. Granted I specialized a few years ago to just the 6" Black Series line, and then only certain figures. I remember the Force Friday prior to TROS, and am giving my observations based upon my twenty five years of experience collecting. Of course I made a point of doing my usual run of multiple Walmarts that night, as well as a couple of Game Stops, and my observations are thus. Walmart had one 60x60" prefab display for each store, into which were placed some 3 3/4" Vintage Line figures including ones from the new film. One short row of each. Below were an exclusive "playset" of Jabba's Palace, and a vehicle the skiff from Jedi. The 6" Black Series featured four figures from the new film, granted three seemed to be merely repacks or retools, two figures from the recent video game, and two figures from the Mandalorian, including a Jawa (why?). The majority of the display were role playing lightsabers, and some really lame gold painted 3 3/4" figures. As to be expected the supply didn't come close to meeting the demand that the majority of the 6" and Vintage line figures were gone leaving the dregs, and a lot of pissed off collectors who were shelling out $60 on ebay for the Mandalorian who was the hit figure from the group. On top of this were two special edition types for nearly all the 6" figure line. A white box version at Walmart, and the "Carbon" metalized paint versions exclusive to different retail outlets. By Christmas that ex-stormtrooper girl whose name I can't be bothered to remember joined the 6" line, and still warms the pegs. The absence of a dedicated TROS line is something that struck me as odd, but the decision to just have one small display filled mostly with toy lightsabers is something I've not seen in my twenty five years of collecting. Especially not in a movie year. Granted the collecting community is used to this by now. Hasbro has been cutting back on releases for years now, and restocks were few and far between even Pre-Disney. The reason I specialized in one line was out of sheer boredom due to lack of anything new. The Disney era just made sure there were more peg warmers to clog up the shelves preventing new figures being put out. Rather than one entity being to blame there have been several years of issues that has led up to this current state of Star Wars collecting.
I service a few larger grocery stores. Around its premiere the only RoS toys I saw were Kylo's new mask, some lightsabers, and a few action figures. All on a single cardboard shipper. There was another shipper for shirts right beside it and it shared space with Frozen 2 shippers. My job doesn't take me to the toy aisle, so I don't know how well represented it was there, but I can STILL find clearanced Last Jedi figures here and there on the endcaps. The endcaps facing the back walls with other clearanced toys mind you.
They don't immerse themselves in anything because they're not given fun and fantasy to play in; just perversion and lies masquerading as moral lectures.
My son used to have great fun playing with his Star Wars toys. I remember one rainy afternoon when Batman joined Luke and togethered they battled Darth Vader. I miss those days.
I think a bit of both but the younger generation are more interested in their PlayStations or phones etc Appreciate it’s not everyone but for the most part the older fans who grew up with the OT disliked the sequel trilogy. We were bought up with better films.
Well, I immerse myself into the computergame Star Wars The Old Republic. Everything else, I give a rats ass about. Well, I did watch Roguew One the other evening. I like that movie.
Argh! Also kids really don’t buy their own toys, that what the parents are for. If they like something, they’ll either beg mommy and daddy for it or steal their credit card to buy it themselves.
I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio where there was a Kenner plant. The original Star Wars toys were “all the rage”, and many kids carried their action figures in SW carrying cases. Back then many toys were made more simply, albeit more “crudely.” Now these classic action figures are worth a fortune.
Another definite factor is the price gouging. $15 for a 3 3/4" (Black Series/Vintage Collection) action figure with no real extras? $10 for a 3 3/4" fig with hardly any articulation? 6" figs should be around $12 MAX, highly-articulated 3 3/4" figs with accessories s/b around $8 and the low articulation 3 3/4" figs s/b $5-6. And stopping the TWC-style figs and toy line when they did was a really bad decision. It was a hopping line. So many more characters and vehicles they could release and make a killing, even at a lower, more appropriate price point.
My son is six and has just discovered Star Wars. He now loves the originals with a passion that has thrown me because I have been so negative (Thank you Disney!) at Star Wars for years (TLJ). When he first watch these sequels he liked Kylo Ren and did for about a month and that was that. But original Star Wars he and his little buddies are hot all over it. Make believe playing, drawing picture, driving their teacher up the wall due to the obsession now going 5 months. Guess what they don’t have but beg for? Star Wars toys! Consider going into the toy section and having your son as “Can I get Luke Skywalker? Han Solo’s gun? Jubba the Hut, a Sand Person?” And I have nothing to tell him because beyond the occasional lightsaber and LEGO’s Star Wars there is nothing to keep inspiring my boy and his friends once the play is over. Disney stole from our children.

I've never seen someone willing to give 4 billion dolars for a dead carcass, honestly.
My niece and nephew are obsessed with the original trilogy, and Luke. They didn’t even recognise Rose Tico or Rey at all when they were looking at toys. They saw The Last Jedi twice. Lol.
I see your niece and nephew are children of intelligence and culture. Maybe the future of humanity isn't as bad as I thought it was after all.
I'm sure you're a good uncle, but having them watch The Last Jedi twice is borderline child abuse.
Leon Robinson Oh I had nothing to do with that, I love those kids too much. It was my idea to have a movie night with the original trilogy, however.

also try the movies
Oblivion
Outlander [it's technically a futuristic version of the Beowulf legend mixed with some predator/alien horror elements, its indie as well and amazing stuff]

To the casual toy collectors like me, no toyline for Dr Who, Star Trek or Star Wars just implies that they are on their last legs.
Yep they’ve been systematically been destroyed one by one
Voyager_ and captain's yacht _Cousteau,_ and wings on the Klingon Bird-of-Prey and Reman _Scimitar._
Also, none of the replicas are to scale with each other, even though there are some coincidenes in this area. (For example: the 3.5" Standard Edition _Warp Delta_ is in-scale with the 10" XL Edition _NX-01 Enterprise,_ but they were not made to be such, since there is also a 3.5" Standard Edition _NX-01 Enterprise_ as well.)
Price ranges are (with free shipping on all order above $65!):
- Standard Edition (3"-4") USD $25.00
- Special Edition (6"-8.5") USD $55.00
- XL Edition (8.5"-10.5") USD 75.00
Finally, all replicas come with a dedicated short magazine for each ship (6-16 pages depending on the Edition you get) included for free!
XD

Impressive for such garbage movies.
Star Wars, as an overall brand, is now uncool.
I remember the first time it was uncool, back in the late 80s. I don’t know if it can bounce back this time.
Eh thats why i stick to legends
So when can i buy kenner toys from the 80's cheap again?
Children tend to play with toys they associate with fun. When was the last time that Star Wars was fun?
As it was, as it is, as it ever will be. And now it shall return to the quality it was, without the taint of popular opinion.
They should have followed McFarlane Toys example, with the cancelation of the STD toy phaser. Don't produce a product that fans don't want.
I think they just
A) dont recognize her
B) didnt like the film; so dont want the toys
C) live in a gen where toys lose in importance anyway; replaced by touch screens
D) When we were young; Disney put out good shit and so we linked the mouse to good experiences; therefore we were more likely to express our want for such a figurine.
Nice piece of History I never heard 👌

The Lego thing turned out to be an unfortunate brand shift. Now Lego is just a platform to deliver other pop culture.

You kidding, they could have had Luke milking sets, even larger versions of that thing which you could fill up with actual milk and suck from.
@@Catubrannos Good idea, I'd buy that.
@@Divineludicrousy Perfectly balanced as all things should be...
@@NewOrderOfAlexandria rebels wasn't that bad
you know your going to keep blowing up doom, when you have channels that cover star wars switching to complaining about your channel blowing up
that means you are intended to keep skyrocketing
keep up the good work
They are obsessed about one guy in a mask making videos about a multi billion dol!ar company. If Doomcock all by himself can make the giant corporation squirm, doesn't that make him a hero along the lines of Robin Hoos, the Minute Men or even a certain farm boy from Tatooine
But no, to the shills it is the giant corporation that is the plucky hero and the one guy with a video camera who is the evil empire.
From the moment I seen "The Force Awakens", I knew selling to Disney was a big mistake. Disney and "Wars" do not belong together.
What a lame title only decent sounding one was the last Jedi, but that film was the worst one lmao
Rey sold less figures than anyone
I have a hard time believing rose tico sold more.
Toxic Sheeple, Rey nobody
Von Faustien: Rose Tico prob sold more b/c EVS bought them all
Less than Rose Tico?
@Toxic Sheeple REY'D SHADOW LEGENDS IS THE NEW BIGGEST MMORPG PVP PVE etc
Outstanding post Doomcock!!!!
KK & RJ killed this FRANCHISE!
Right???
star wars toys from 1977 to 1985, that is what worth collecting, forget anything after 1985.
Even the prequel trilogy toys are basically worthless. It happens when a product is overproduced.
I agree. Anything original, especially Kenner figures are the way to go
Even the reproductions don't decrease the value of the original 78-85 Kenner line. That says a lot.
I have a question for everyone...What would you do if Doomcock removed his helmet one day and it was....
Kathleen Kennedy the entire time
Blasphemy!!! 😂
"Noooo! That's not true! That's impossible!"

I bet Santa's elves looked at the Rose Tico toys and slammed a faulty label on all of the boxes along with the label "Return to sender!"
Toy companies, likely thought "Lets not bother, maybe the movie will sell the stuff that still on the shelves!"
Exactly I hated the sequel trilogy so have absolutely no desire to spend my hard earned money on it.
Has anyone ever explained why the resistance, with starships, had a cavalry division?
Shhh. Don't as k such intelligent questions. Do You want the Disney Death Squad come visiting You late at night, or something?
@@tryingbutfailing
Ah ok; I see.
But..
Why had the resistance; with starships; a dewback and/or tauntaun division?
Never forget Lucas gave us endless teddy bears.
And we bought them up! I still have a 35 year old Ewok from the TV movies in a box somewhere.
Yeah, I too was the perfect age for Ewoks back then, and I'll always love them for that! 🐻🐻🐻
The Ewoks maybe had too much attention & were made too cute etc. But at least they did something of relevance to the actual story.
@@Imylover They had their own spinoff movie called Caravan of Courage. Two apparently.

Here in Canada, when you walk into the toy section of Walmart, and look at the Star Wars section, it's abyssmally void of anything worth buying. 😒😒
So not even the stormtroopers with the " They fly now " jetpacks are selling ??? Please say this isn't so ...
I'd bet that the only stuff that is shifting is anything Clone Wars related. Possibly Mandalorian stuff, but I've no idea if the series has a toyline.
Weird they'd be perplexed by jetpack storm troopers when jetpack clone troopers were a thing...
Disband EVERYTHING Disney made! Bring back the EU!
They did have a toy line. It came out a month before the Movie. It also hit the clearance rack a month before the movie. 😂😂😂
I can't believe how badly they have destroyed my childhood!
you gotta read the books bro...Start With "Courtship of Princess Leia"
or get the audio book from any torrent site
Poor Star Wars fans behaving like abused children... Jimmy Savile did far worse than Disney to destroy childhoods. Much worse!
Sad. I remember going to Target and getting Star Wars Legos and Micro Machines. Coolest toys ever. I even saved up for a Darth Vader coin bank that would light up and speak whenever a coin was dropped in.
Things ain't like the 90s anymore... or even the 2000s...
Long live the Holiday Special!
Disney cannot learn. You cannot learn a thing you believe you already know everything about perfectly.
Why is it that Lego is the only ones to get stuff like this right?
Because Legos contain creative potential. Disney does not.

And as a surprise to no one, Hasbro dedicated their 2020 line-up to the OT
Man, even EVS couldn't save the Rose Tico's figurine sales. But he tried... He tried.
The fact they have increased the price of a single action figure to around $15 US or more doesnt help.
True...except they don't even sell at $2 per, so that sinks that argument.
@@iratepirate648 - if I could get them for $2 each my kids would play with them like crazy. No place has them that cheap.

The way the 3.75” line has been treated since the takeover is ridiculous and offensive to long time collectors.
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau need promotions ASAP. They’re our only hopes for the future of Star Wars.

@@MysteriousStrangerVA - Yet you can't see his intentions are there? Hating on fans was bad enough.
Hail Lord Harvey and his faithful servant Doomcock 😂
I find it funny when the news media lies and calls you a liar and say the fans love the Star Wars movies. Your always on point doom!!

Kudos for working in a Roberto Duran reference during a rant about Star Wars toys.
Honest question everyone....honest answers. Do kids immerse themselves into SW or is really just us, middle aged men?
They don't immerse themselves in anything because they're not given fun and fantasy to play in; just perversion and lies masquerading as moral lectures.
My son used to have great fun playing with his Star Wars toys. I remember one rainy afternoon when Batman joined Luke and togethered they battled Darth Vader. I miss those days.
Kevin S...I agree, the politics is reaching/desensitizing the youth
I think a bit of both but the younger generation are more interested in their PlayStations or phones etc
Appreciate it’s not everyone but for the most part the older fans who grew up with the OT disliked the sequel trilogy. We were bought up with better films.
Well, I immerse myself into the computergame Star Wars The Old Republic. Everything else, I give a rats ass about. Well, I did watch Roguew One the other evening. I like that movie.
Without respect we reject.
You get what you give out Disney.
Tbf, kids dont buy toys nowadays. They have their iphones n shit
My son had plenty Fortnite toys. If a kid is hooked on a franchise they want everything from it.
Back then many toys were made more simply, albeit more “crudely.” Now these classic action figures are worth a fortune.
lets stop pretending its the 80's still and kids want to play with action figures instead of a switch or iphone
That’s what I’m saying. Battlefront 2 has 14 million active players . At least half of those are little kids.
Urban Legend has it: When You say the word Bigot 7 times backwards, both Beetlejuice & CandyMan turn into SJW pandering to RUclipsrs.
So, nobody loots Star Wars toys?
I don't know why everyone things George Lucas will "save" STAR WARS when he created 3 horrible prequels and JarJar
Prequels are awesome. Maybe attack of the clones is a kind of in between movie but Phantom menace and revenge of the Sith are masterpieces
