      Love it - just read the summary. Echoing another comment; not a huge fan of the name "Church of the Reclaimers" - my playing partner has had bad experiences with the church and this keeps a connotation to real life a bit. I would love to see a faction name that is disconnected from real life, but this is just one opinion and won't stop my p500 order!

    This is amazing, Jarrod! I have played Cuba Libre and Liberty & Death and I am eagerly looking forward to play the other COIN games.
    I’m really excited about Red Dust Rebellion, because the Mars setting opens up such vast possibilities in terms of world-building. Reading your faction descriptions and seeing the sample card art on the Inside GMT Blog, I have full confidence that you will not only fully realise the possibilities of the Mars settings thematically, but also push the COIN system forward mechanically.
    I hope that the board itself captures both the planet-wide scope of the setting, but also provides the almost old world satisfaction of moving across a textured map with cities and wastelands, more Dune than Expanse. And, I hope that the production budget allows for at least some of the wooden pieces to be something more than cubes, maybe domes, like the forts in Pendragon.
    Good luck on your journey. May good things happen.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  4 года назад +1

      I'm not sure what the final product will look like, but a nice map would be great. As for pieces, we are still debating what to do about the dust storms so those could end up looking fancy

      This is me too. I totally understand the love of playing out historical conflicts in games but I've never been into it. I'm a huge history nerd, but I prefer to read a book about history rather than play a game about it. Wars where real people fought and died seem like very heavy themes for a fun evening of games around a tabletop with friends. But give me a sci fi or fantasy setting that explores the dynamics of politics and history through a story that is just removed enough from real life, and I'm instantly on board.

    Some time back, one one of your earlier vids, I asked you whether you had ever tried COIN, and you told me you hadn't listed COIN on that particular list because you were working on one of your own. Here it is! Huzzah!!! I'm a giant COIN fan, and have I-IX on table just as often as I can. X is still winging its way to me. To be honest, when I saw the topic, I was skeptical, since one of COIN's big plusses for me has always been about getting my head inside a real world conflict...but I followed the link on GMT's page anyway. To my surprise, you have me sold with your description of the factions. So...my only question...how do I toss my name in the hat to playtest? I've not playtested for GMT before, but have for a couple other publishers, including GW and Command Post, and Eureka. Looking forward to lucky 13! :)

    This looks very interesting. I ordered the Vietnam COIN game and want to get this one also. My only hesitation is the current Complexity Rating over at BGG of around 4.3/5. I know the game isn’t out yet and often wonder how realistic the rating is before the game gets to the masses. I will also likely be playing this exclusively solo.
    Anyone hade thoughts on the complexity issue? I noticed GMT’s site has it listed as average complexity.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  11 месяцев назад +1

      I personally think people over-egg the complexity of COIN games. I think the later garphill games, Lacerda games and the likes of Nucleum are as, or more complex than COIN. COIN games also make logical sense because the attempt is to simulate a conflict. Whereas a lot of heavy euros have rules where things happen "because game"

    • @FeyNick
      @FeyNick 9 месяцев назад

      @@3MBG I agree entirely with that premise. In fact, I've given up on heavy eurogames, as I can't 'get' the strategy for them. COIN games are more intuitive, to me at least, especially if you know the history behind the conflict the COIN games are depicting.

    I really like that P500 concept by GMT. I think it is at least in one way better than your average Kickstarters because the game gets more playtesting before release and not having to have like 500 miniatures instead. Not that I am saying I like chits (punchouts) better than miniatures, but GMT gets more and more simple wooden pieces and I like that. By the way, I'm order number 1307 ^^.

      Awesome. And yeah, we are testing the stuffing out of it right now. We moved it all onto tabletop sim and its the first GMT game to be 100% developed virtually while on the p500. (I made physical copies earlier of course, but for now, its only a virtual game). This was because of the pandemic, but ultimately its been amazing, as we can update versions super quick.

    Collateral damage is a very interesting concept. Something surprisingly omitted from all COIN games so far. Only abstractly modelled as "support".

      With the lack of oxygen on mars, i really felt there had to be a system about intense fighting in an area causing serious harm to all the civilians there as well. Bombs and gunfights can damage pipes. Pipes carry air and water :)

    Would you say Red Dust Rebellion is more Ameri output luck (like Dawn of the Zeds and This War of Mine) or more Euro input luck (like Architects of the West Kingdom, Terraforming Mars, and Spirit Island without the branch and claw expansion)?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 года назад +1

      I would say the whole COIN series is as close to a Euro as any wargame out there. A dice chucker it is not. Asides from the placement of the random dust storms on the board, you could theoretically win a game without a single dice roll. It's a very low luck game, and the main decision points are based on what cards are available to play, and you can always see the next 2 cards.

    I am not sure I actually enjoy COIN games - I mostly admire them for their historical insights which perhaps may not be here. I will follow with interest. The themes sound a lot like those in the Crisis in Elysium megagame, which I think came from the Red, Green, Blue Mars books and not say Battlefleet Mars or the Expanse.

      Weirdly, i have not read them. But based on peoples comments, i've clearly absorbed a lot of them via secondary sources such as movies and tv shows inspire by them. Like how someone these days could make a fantasy setting with orcs and elves without having read tolkien.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 года назад +1

      I'm not sure on that to be honest. It is a little different, as it is essentially just a pre-order from a company instead of an investment in an idea. One thing about the p500 i do know is you are not charged money until the game is ready to go. The pre-order just reserves a charge on your credit card but its not active until it ships, so if the game is delayed you aren't sitting there "out of pocket" for years
