Some are plug and play and some aren’t. Early years of the mark 4 era came WITHOUT a immobilizer. I have two mark 4 now and both have a immobilizer. My previous mk4 didn’t. You would have to check PR codes of the vehicle to see if you do or don’t.
At the time this video was filmed, your odometer reading was 240K. I'm interested in understanding what major maintenance has been done to the vehicle to sustain its reliability. Would you mind making a video about this topic or replying to this comment with that information? I see in a couple of your videos that you performed a lot of cosmetic maintenance that does not necessarily fall into the category of sustained reliability, but is still nice to have, and was performed with a high degree of care and attention to detail which I also appreciate. I'm the original owner and only driver of a 2004 VW GTI VR6. The car has 151K miles currently and my intent is to keep it running reliably for 300K miles. This of course requires a lot of maintenance. I'm prioritizing everything under the hood and undercarriage first, for reliability purposes. Cosmetics will be second in a couple years.

Hi, thanks for the video, great to see how the unit is put together. It seems that all of those comments are more likely from people that uses the car for short trips on daylight or even shorter at night. I drive a T4 Transporter with the same dash like 1200km in day an night and I can tell you that it is after a while of driving in the night, it will disturb you! Those blue colors will become annoying after 4-5 hours of driving in the night without lightning on the highway. Your eyes will also see blue on the highway and the darkness. Because of that and for my safety, I dim those lights and it is less disturbing! After that, I saw some video's from Volkswagen some time ago, they have them own testing facility where they test the lightning on the dash and also the instrument cluster! After some research of VW, they said that white and red are the colors that are least disturbing and more clearer to read. So why are those people commenting here screaming about originality!? Yes they are original and beautiful, but even that is no reason to scream here. And ather that all, why do you think that VW has changed them to white/red? The owner of this vid didn't upload it so you MUST change it!? He is like you and me free of modifying his car and he's doing good here! I came here to check how the cluster is been removed, changing the leds of it and putting it back on it's place!? It's a freakin' good helpful vid!
No, most single leds work on 3.3v and are connected in series to be used with available voltages, in this case 4 of them are connected in series in the dashboard so it works on 13.2 volts nominal

Did you know: if you live in a country with internet access you can have LED's shipped to your door for pennies. No need to desolder them from an existing product. The more you know.
I think the white light is better. But that it is too bright. It makes the numbers less visible and it looks like it's making it blurry. Nevertheless, your skill and hard work is appreciated. I thought it was much harder to do. Soldering can be tricky, but with a clean tip you can do a lot.

+William Bradley Naidoo what does it do? Does it stay in place when you drive? Maybe you pressed it to hard, if so, now you have to pull it up a little so it gets unsuck
Eye Doctors report that little extra brightness in white lights helps prevent pupils from fully dilating, helping your eyes adjust better to those hideous LED headlights that blind everybody. Also love the fact I can read my dash during the daylight. Great job on the video so where do you get the work light for savaging white leds?
The white one is visible in day the blue and red are not they are too weak but i still like them more
Is there a way to make them brighter?
Hi, thanks for the video, great to see how the unit is put together.
My instrument cluster has just started to play up, the middle screen (trip, gear position etc) has gone blank, but is back lit constantly, the ‘apply brake’ light is constantly lit, and when the headlights are on the cluster lights up full but can’t be dimmed.
Maybe it’s an easy fix, have you any ideas?
Thanks
Paul
Hello. SMD3528 works ? I don't have 5050. Ty.
Yes, 5050 were too big anyways
Hi, what's the voltage of the original diodes? Please give a reply, it's very important for me
+Bartosz Tomala 4 leds in series, so around 3-3.6v
Thanks for so quick answer :) I'm going to change my diodes there, so i should use about 3V ones?
+Bartosz Tomala u can order original diodes but different color, thanks for watching
I changed my leds too, but i did it with the actual size like the original ones, i thought they won't be so bright like yours, but i was wrong. They are damn too bright, even when it's dimmed to the lowest setting. Maybe you have some suggestions how to make it a bit darker?
+Arnas Stanionis there is a way, you can find a pin on your dash that is used to power the led, and put a resistor in between the dash and 12v wire, that way you can choose the default brightness of dash only and still use regular car dimmer to dimm them even more

Better blue plasma, with 10€ you buy 100 of them, i changed in a passat and bmw and the result is awesome.
Combined red(audi) with blue plasma, the result is like a luxury car.

DIY Garage Projects and reviews
Ma ja i ja mislim,Pošto ima i golfova 5-ica koji imaju ovakve sa videa e ima ih i sa ovim što sam ti pokazao,a sat isti
Good video. I put some chrome bezels on the dials..really smartens the cluster up.
Does the dimmer work with those leds?
Hello my friend i change my dash led with red and white on skoda octavia 1u2 mk1 with the same way but i have the same problem with you the light of airbag... do you know what is this and which is solve...? Because i go to vag ecu programm and dont have errors! No airbag errors or other!
Can I change the two LCD screens ? Because mines don't even show anything...
Do you know the voltage at the base of the led light.
And can i use a 5 mm LED DIODE?
Thanks for posting.
Never mind I found it. Its about 3.2 volts, so I can install an LED without a resistor.
Great tutorial! Very didactic even prefering the original colour scheme!
Thank you, and thanks for a positive comment even if you dont like the color, this ones get rare this days.
DIY Garage Projects and reviews Thank you for your time, its a viable tutorial on how to dismantle the clocks in the event of blown bulb or whatever!
s o s plz tell me why the chech engine ligth didnt turn on when he turned the key, i have the same problem is it?
Thank you! Best comment here!
Can I put vw golf mk4 dashboard in to škoda octavia 1u2?
Aren't the new whIte LEDS like 110volts and the blue ones out of the car 12 volt? 🙃
No, most single leds work on 3.3v and are connected in series to be used with available voltages, in this case 4 of them are connected in series in the dashboard so it works on 13.2 volts nominal
DIY Garage Projects and reviews oh I see. Thanks.
do foldzagena polo też działa podchodzi patent???? otpisz
Is it just me or does it look better how it was before. HAHAHA
Yep, looked better before, stay with OEM blue and red, this guy has saved me time and money
You don’t force the clips up with a flat head , there’s a tiny tab you push down slightly and it releases without force.
great work! omg those comments, am i the only who hates this blue dashboard? and oragne polodot :P i prefer clean black & white combo, with bw maxidot, like in skoda ocatavia II+ interiors
I love pure white but we have installed some warm white leds, but it looks better irl, thanks for commenting
Do you know which is code for original blue LEDs?
The blue and red is as pretty a dash as you'll ever see. So who would want to change it? The music says it all.
Yup, i think the same too, he should just keep it that way, personally i like red more
So you can't see driving at night now- do they dim?
+Eddie Jankins yes, dimming still works until they are almost off
My leds dont turn completely off. Rhey are glowing a bit when they should be off completely. Any fix for this.
how is the size of your smd used in your video?
Great job, so much detail doing the video, I will use it to clean my cluster screen, it's too dusty right were the clock and CT adjusters are.
Did you know: if you live in a country with internet access you can have LED's shipped to your door for pennies. No need to desolder them from an existing product.
The more you know.
The less you enjoy
I think the white light is better. But that it is too bright. It makes the numbers less visible and it looks like it's making it blurry. Nevertheless, your skill and hard work is appreciated. I thought it was much harder to do. Soldering can be tricky, but with a clean tip you can do a lot.
what is the bulb type for golf mk5 2004?
