Well if you get a free one like Matt does, go ahead and try it out. For the average user I'd really suggest spending the extra $$$ on an even more powerful Mac which runs Parallels.

Good luck playing AAA games on the X Elite! It would be terrible as the iGPU is the worst of all the choices. With no dGPU and eGPUs not supported (no Thunderbolt), this is 100% not a machine for AAA gaming. I'm surprised some reviewers are even suggesting it!
1. In my opinion, Snapdragon X Laptops make sense with Linux. 2. I have seen plenty of laptops with windows and they suck. 3. If you replace CPU to ARM they will still find a way to screw it up and be on par with Apple. 4. Linux PCs still don't enjoy enough software support from vendors. 5. One of the reasons I am not using Linux is that energy needs are 3-4x on my desktop in Linux than on Windows. 6. In the near future, Snap dragon laptops with linux come out and you will basically have a portable server/laptop/hacking machine.
I wouldn't touch an Apple device with a ten foot pole with the glorious exception of the iPad (I own a 12.9 Pro M1). Windows/Android win in most categories as far usability, compatibility and price. Win/Android only lose in meaningless benchmarks and perhaps in extreme battery life tests. I'm curious about this Snapdragon offering and may try it in their Mark II version.

I've always been a fan of Windows operating system and the app compatibility... It's just that windows is always behind to MacBooks with the battery backup and on battery performance... It is finally nice to have a hardware for ARM laptops. The problem as it goes is Windows since Microsoft does everything in their power to make a shitty experience for the user. From the ads, widgets, banners, to copilot, recall and more important that the new AI features are , at this point, only available for the new ARM laptops, while it has been proven that these features, or at least many of those, can work on the latest Intel/AMD cpus. So not only they create a new separation between ARM and x86, but now you will have to decide if the AI is more important than something else and if you will have to buy 2 devices which most people won't. I really hope MS will find its way to a good Win11 execution , although I am getting more and more disappointed with their decisions. It is nice to have a Windows (and hopefully a Linux) laptop that could take you through a whole working day without a charger. It was one of the things that keeps with my MacBook.
The only thing I want from these laptops are performance, Since Im a mobile app dev, I want to be able to run android emulators, android studio, and multiple chrome tabs seamlessly. Without lagging. Just like MacBooks can.
As of me i would prefer MacBook over surface laptop for daily driver and surface tablet over iPad pro as ipad OS is just disappointing, i really love how close the snapdragon chips came and in some cases better than M chips, Now Apple really have to give more than 100% to be in competition....
And clapping for the X Elite when WOA has been active even longer than Apple Silicon is a bit rich unless it is ironic that Windows finally has a chip comparable with the base M3? With the M3 Max and also M4 just around the corner, it is the minimum we should have expected and for me, underwhelming.

For me the combination of iPhone, ROG ally with xg mobile for gaming, m3 pro macbook pro, surface pro 11 does everything I need and bit more. I love each one of them. I love Surface as a tablet more than ipad pro.
For me it's too early. I in particular wait for the Tuxedo Linux Snapdragon X Elite notebook, with much more software available from years of Raspberry Pi, but with a little bit more power.
The bootloaders are locked on all Snapdragon X chips. Part of the deal with MS, so I am still determining when Qualcomm will be allowed to make Linux-supported devices or when MS will unlock the bootloader. At the moment, I wonder if you will see Linux X Elite in 2024.

Why? Who's got time to locate, download, and install hundreds of drivers and codecs...when a Mac...just works!

I think dark side is a company which offers its base model computers with 256gb memory and 8gb ram.
People don't buy macs just for the hardware. We buy them because of Apple software. We bought them when they were intel machines. This is dumb.
