I stapled my greenery so I knew it wouldn’t go anywhere
Bianca Hernandez good thinking. I know a lot of other people do it that way too. I think I’ll try that next time
Where do you get the wood?!
@@brittanyivey2513 Hello. I purchase all of my 17.5" wood rounds from Home Depot
@@UnicornDustDesigns thank you soooo much!
I am new here but I love your video, very very easy to follow.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
If you are making a lot of these, a template with holes for the d-hook positions might be helpful? Just trace the round on a sheet of cardboard, measure and mark it up, and drill holes where the d-hooks should go. Then when you are ready, place the template on the back of your sign and use a marker to make dots through the drilled template holes. Hope this helps :)
Where have you been my entire life Jessika! That is genius!
Hi Sammy, yes I'm still binge watching your older video lol. I love how much you love your children. It's so cute to watch your son "help" you paint. I hope you don't mind but every time I watch one of your video's ( new and old) i pray for the baby in your belly and that it will ( i keep saying he in prayer) be perfectly healthy and come when it is time for it to come. I hope you don't mind. God bless you
I just love listening to you and your personality! Lol. You are so funny and REAL. You do such a great job of explaining everything.
Thank you so much for these positive words!!
Your creation are great but even more your voice over and sense of humour keeps me further engaged funny lady.
Why thank you Jane!! I appreciate this comment ❤️
Best tutorial ever!!! I’ve been trying to learn watching videos but I haven’t been able to find anyone that explains everything as detailed as you do without going over the top talking and talking. Thank you for sharing!!!!! ❤️
You're so very welcome Paola! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment.
I never would have thought to
Wrap the middle part of the bow around the greenery! So smart!!
It makes it so much easier to just have everything in one bundle! Thank you so much for watching Melissa!
Thank you for this tutorial!! Just a heads up no apostrophe's for plural family names. There are some exceptions but google it to make sure. You gave me the push i need to start my own signs, thank you so much!!
Hi Francesca! The customer really wanted the apostrophe in the name so I didn’t fight it. Promise I always check Hahahaha. And you’re so very welcome! That’s what I’m here for. If you end up posting some signs on IG make sure to tag me!
I REALLY like watching you because you work more like me. You are VERY conscience about your work, you really take proud in your work. You are concerned about your customers enjoying what you made for them. TYFS your skill. I LOVE working with wood.
These are gorgeous. I love your personality, too. You talk to us like you’re talking to a friend and I love that. Keep it up, you’ve got a great style.
Thank you so much Holly! I truly appreciate that feedback!! I hope you have a great week and thank you for stopping by!
Best trick ever with the microfiber towel... Thanks !!
the cute little fellow in the background made me SMILE!!!!
:) Aww! Thanks for watching Priscilla!
Love how much instruction you give. The little tips make it awesome because I personally hate wasting time and money on little mistakes that now I'll avoid .
Yes! Girl I know we all don’t have time or money to waste these days so I try to be as accurate as possible! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video!
Hi, I love your video. These are the instructions I wrote watching your video. Am I missing anything?
*ignore my typos...I did this really quick while watching the video.
1. Sand board
2. Stain both sides of the board for a more finished look using a 2x2 microfiber towel
3. Using chippy paint brush apply a thin layer of clear satin sealant to one side (which will be the back side)
a. Check for runs
b. Poly acrylic works fine too
4. Apply large D-hooks 3 inches from side
5. Firmly apply painters tape and cover the edges
6. Add decal, peel contact paper
7. For a clean look use a mini foam paint roller to paint over the name with chalk paint.
a. For a rustic look use the chippy brush
b. Paint soft even coats - don’t press too hard
8. Let dry then add second light even coat.
a. Make sure it’s completely dry and use a blow dryer to speed up the process.
9. After completely dry, using the webbing tool remove the decal
a. Don’t press too hard picking up the vinyl because it may cause grooves and paint to chip
10. Once dry dust off the chalk paint
11. Add 1-3 coats of sealant to the front and let it dry
a. Don’t forget the edges
12. Add ribbon (22 in) to hooks with hot glue
a. Place down square paper under the hook
b. Loop ribbon through hook
c. Fold over about 2 inches add glue and firmly hold
13. Take the bow and greenery and wrap together using same burlap or whatever matches so that it’s 1 pc. Glue on with hot glue and e6000
Wow! Erica! You are very thorough. I like your style. Looks like you have everything down. I would just note that you while taking your stencil off make sure you are brushing away the flakes of chalk paint as you go (not just after). Thank you so much for watching and learning! It's a pleasure being able to teach ya'll this.
I just started watching you a few weeks ago and I love that you have links to your old videos. I love all the things I've seen so far. I think I have many more to watch.
I get my micro fiber cloths at Harbor Freight, usually with a free coupon..:) Packs of 4 cloths at 12"x12..:) Love your vids, my wife and I just started doing rounds.
Yes! We get ours at Mernards for $10 and it comes with 30 I think! Thank you guys so much for watching
You are not horrible at this!!! I love how real you are! Thank you!!!
My pleasure Carrie! I love doing this!
Yes. You only add apostrophes to show possession, not plurals. Possessive: John’s yard. Plural: The Browns. A name ending in s: either leave it as is or add es. You can always google apostrophe rules to be sure.
Donna J thanks for clarifying!
Thank you :)

This video just popped up in my recommendations and I couldn’t be happier, I know I’m 2 years late to the party, but just last night I started thinking about Christmas and who I want to gift, now I know what I want give my friends and family! Thanks for such easy to follow instructions!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I just made my first sign and your video was so helpful! I have watched this video over and over, and pretty much did everything as you said, lol. I can’t believe how nice my sign turned out, thanks to your help! I’m subscribing and following now, can’t wait to learn more from your videos. Thanks again for sharing!
Yay!!! That makes my heart so happy! Please send me a pic on IG or my business page so I can see it and give you a shoutout! You’re so very welcome!!!
I know I’m watching old diy’s, but I have to say your son is so adorable!
Awww thank you Lisa! Old or not I still read all of them ❤️
oh my gawd! can we be best friends lol you are so fricken hilarious!! So so glad i found your channel! great descriptions and walk-through of each step, even including showing dusting the sign off. I know it seems such a common sense simple step that most dont show it, but to newbies its good to see everything and i appreciate it. I can tell you care and take extreme pride in your work and produce quality pieces, better honestly than most store bought! Thank you for being you!!!
Awwww thank you so very much Shannon! I appreciate the kind words! And my answer is “YUP!” (Step Brothers). I always assume this is someone’s first time making these signs. I need to make one when I’m actually sanding. I thought it was in the video 😬
Lol…I was watching this, thinking that it looked familiar…This was my first Unicorn Dust video! Still wonderful!❤
OMG!!! I love this soooo much! 😍 I wanna try....I wanna try it!! Ok, I’m going to try it. HOME DEPOT here I come. Thanks for sharing!
You can do it girl!!! Tag me on IG if you make it and post it. I would love to see it. Also feel free to ask me questions if you have any along the way 😊
This is a great idea! We are fulltime RVers and I wanted a sign that doesn't look like everyone else's!
Thank you!
This was amazing! Thank you! Your commentary is hilarious.
Hello Safiya! Thank you so much! Hopefully you will browse the other videos! I actually just did a Q&A for wood signs last night. You should definitely check it out! And thank you so much for watching!
OMG, I prefer listening to your commentary vs. music. When you did the slo-mo voice, I totally LOL’d :)
I'm the same way. Especially because all I listen to is country so some of the music I'm like ahhhhhhhh no.
I just started watching your videos. I cannot say enough, the diy projects are fantastic, your personality is even better. I just started crafting and will be using a lot of your ideas, especially the Dollar Tree Calendars and your fall projects. I don’t normally comment but I had to take a minute and thank you. You’re amazing. I look forward to watch more.
Awww thank you so much for taking the time to comment Cheri. I seriously love reading notes from y'all! I hope you're having a great week and I truly appreciate your support.
Absolutely beautiful!
This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I freaking love you! You're adorably down to earth and refreshingly honest! I'm hooked 💜
Awww thanks girl! I appreciate the positive vibes! Looking forward to seeing more of your comments ❤️ have a great weekend!
Your video was awesome and calming too. Beautiful job.
Thank you so much Edie! I appreciate you watching.
This is awesome! You should have a lot more subscribers! I just did. 😊👌🏽
Awww Pam 😻 thank you so very much! Means a lot to me! Thank you for watching! I’ll be putting it out another wood sign video tomorrow!
Mommy's helper is so cute.😍
Thank you! Are you talking about the kid or the dog LOL
First, I love that you share EVERYTHING! Thank you so much! Aspiring DIYers like me appreciate this more than ever. Second, Do you need a cricut for this? Which machine do you recommend?
Hello Madalyn! You are so very welcome. I would say that if this is something you plan to do to make money then yes, I would definitely recommend investing in a vinyl cutter. You can do so much more when you're able to create your own stencils and designs and then you will be able to do custom orders. I have both machines and to be honest :/ depends on how far you want to go with the wood signs. I love my cameo because you can cut more than 24 inches on it and I love the Cricut because it is so user friendly.
@@UnicornDustDesigns if you had to give a recommendation would you advise someone to buy the cameo or cricut?
Hello 👋 I think if you want to make larger wood signs than the wood rounds then the Cameo.
Gorgeous signs.
Use a straight edge to get a straight line.
Thank you so much!
LOVE your beautiful signs!! Would love to see you work with a few designs with greenery/flowers/ribbon/etc from beginning to end!! Would love to see your process of deciding which florals, greenery, etc to put on a sign....or something like that! I'm a new subscriber :)
Hi Doxie! Thank you so much for watching! I actually made a new video with a different design along with florals and bows!!! I’ll definitely be making more of these round wood signs
@@UnicornDustDesigns you should sell the greenery and bows! I suck at making them and would definitely purchase!
i was like ... am i so tired at 11pm and need to go to bed when the slo-mo part started. 🤣 i do woodwork and everything you did was 👍🏻. Helmsman is my go to for everything exterior. love using the D ring hangers too!
🤣🤣 darn footage! I love the Hellsman too. Have you ever tried the spray can version? If so, how do you like it?
Hi! Your door hanger is one of the prettiest I've seen. My question is can I use a roller of final coat of clear stain, like you did for the chalk paint? TIA Claudia
Hello! Why thank you very much CJ S. I'm sure you could use a roller for the clear, I just don't know how it would rinse out. I mean it is water based so I guess there shouldn't be a problem. If you test it out let me know how it washes out afterwards.
Omg this is the best video ! So glad I found you today.... such a great personality!
You don’t need apostrophes when you’re just making plurals. A family name would just have an s added to make it plural, not an apostrophe s.
Thank you for letting me know Donna :)
Thank you. This design is so awesome and gorgeous...but that apostrophe is killing the editor in me.
Universal Soldier you aren’t the first to say this. As you can see in my sunflower video I no longer use the apostrophe
I was scrolling the comments to see if anyone said this. 👍🏾
Does the same rule apply if the name ENDS with an ‘s’ ? Thanks
I've given you props on a fb page for Cricut Beginners. I did 3 wood signs and posted them on there. Told them how to find you! Thank you for your tutorials!
This was so great! Loved every bit and you’re a great teacher! New subbie!
Awwww thank you so very much! Super happy I was able to teach you something new
I'm having the darndest time with gluing the bows!
Hello 👋 what kind of issues are you having?
I’ve been glueing then using a small mail so it really stays in place.
I can’t stand music in the background! This was very helpful!!
Hi Jill! Thank you for watching!
To be honest, I don’t know how I would thoroughly walk subscribers through these videos with the music in the background. So I guess i shouldn’t fix something that ain’t broken, right?
Hi, I love your tutorials. I just have a few questions. How do you get such clean lines when you tape down the dividing line? Mine always bleeds through.
Al N Try using Modge Podge first it is like a sealant.
Hello!!! I use Scotch 233+ which is an automatic tape. I believe I attached a link to my new wood round Diy so check that out 😊
Hello!!! I use Scotch 233+ which is an automatic tape. I believe I attached a link to my new wood round Diy so check that out 😊
Im so glad I found your channel. Thanks for the explanation. I also loved how you didn't mind your kid helping ❤
I’m so happy you found my channel too Eliza! Oh they’re always in my videos lending a helping hand 🥰
Do you poly the front and back before painting with chalk paint?
Hello Traci. No, I only clear the back of my signs first. Then I apply the design and paint to the front and then clear after it dries.
I love your videos! Thank you 😊
Is there any waiting periods? After you stain, painting Or applying vinyl?
Hello.
Stain - cure 24 hours
Paint - cure 24 hours before applying clear coat
Clear - read the back of your can as instructions can be different brand from brand.
@@UnicornDustDesigns you mentioned that you use a blow dryer, (we’re all impatient) so how long did you wait then, since you used a blow drier.. the same for the paint. Thank you for the video and tips and all the info. I loved it and also just subscribed. :)
You are too funny. Laughed. But I love your signs and your directions
Thank you so much Tracy!
HI Sammi, found you over the weekend and I am now attempting my first round wood sign! Also saw your bow video which helped me finish a little fall basket I threw together. Love the attention to detail on your stuff.
I do have a question on the wood sign - How long do you let the stain dry before you move on to the next step? I am using the weathered gray - Love it!
Hello Pam! Thank you so much for watching my video! I allow the stain to dry for 24 hours. I would suggest then running your hand on top it. If you cannot feel an oily texture you are good to go!
@@UnicornDustDesigns Thank you for the quick response - going to have to summon up my patience for this project LOL.
Beautiful wooden sign, very nice video. Thanks for showing us how to do this.
It’s my pleasure! I appreciate you watching it ❤️
Hi! Do you remove the tape after the chalk paint while it’s wet or dry?
Hello Taylor! I remove the tape when it is dry
I spy a Scentsy warmer😍 thank you for this video, showed me so much!
UGH Help!!! I just realized I wasn’t supposed to put the sealer on the front before I painted on my saying. Is there anything I can do to salvage it? do I have to resort to vinyl on it now? I really wanted to paint the design. HELP!
Hi Pam. You can just take some smooth sandpaper like 220 for example and sand that down so it’s smooth and then apply your paint and stencil.
Love how the rounds came out. . Thanks for a great tutorial. 😊🙏🙏. You have a good little helper.
You’re so very welcome Suzanne! He is a great little helper .. sometimes hahahaha
Love your sign videos !!!!!!
What font do you use for the “The” and “EST” part of it!? I want that font so badly!
Hello! All that information is in the description box of this video.
@@UnicornDustDesigns thabk you! I didn’t even know the description box was a thing! Thanks again for this amazing tutorial! I can’t wait to finish my sign!
Elizabeth o'neill you’re so very welcome ❤️
@@UnicornDustDesigns How did you go about getting the commercial license for this? I see it's free for personal use only.
@@matthewkehs5374 you can buy from the owner on DaFont if you choose to.
Helmsman is my FAVORITE! I did a kitchen table in it years ago and it’s now my craft table. I’ve beat it up, ironed on it, etc and it has held up. Our current kitchen table has a factory poly on it and it clouds up at the hint of a hot dinner plate or water glass. I plan to sand and coat it in Helmsman for a better, more durable finish.
Yes! It’s a great clear coat to use for so many reasons! And you’re right - it’s super durable. Thanks for watching girlie
I like the white on natural that’s nice
Thank you Misty!
Your video is amazing! Very detailed and easy to follow. Please make a video on how you make Burlap bows and floral arrangements with Peonies.
Thank you so very much! I will most likely be going LIVE this evening to show my bows. Florals will be coming this coming Wednesday in a diy wood round part 2
Thank you so very much! I will most likely be going LIVE this evening to show my bows. Florals will be coming this coming Wednesday in a diy wood round part 2
I love your tutorial. You thoroughly explained clearly. I picked up 2 boards at Lowes today and I clearly could have gotten 2 for price of one. Beautiful work.
Yes! I’ve priced around at all hardware stores and Home Depot by far is the better price. I also like that at Home Depot the rounds are not wrapped up so you can see the wood grain and if they have damage.
I enjoyed every min of this video as it was so easy to grasped and you made everything simple. Thanks!
You’re so very welcome Karen.
Thank you! Love the last name on this one 😍😁
I love the slow motion! Lol everything we do is a learning process, and flaws are expected I love that you just went with the flow. Talking in slow motion was great haha
Hahaha I’m a mess girl! In all my videos haha
I like that you are honest about is going on in your video:)
I will always be honest with y'all :)
Great Instructions !! Cute helper
Why thank you!! I gotta a lot of those cute helpers! Make sure to keep a lookout in other videos haha. Thank you so much for watching.
Love these wood signs. I'm hoping to make one soon. Thanks😊❤
You are very funny. Make me laugh a lot. I love your spontaneity. Love the work too.
I try to make it as fun as possible. I just pretend I’m explaining it to my girlfriends when doing my voice overs ❤️
Your door rounds are absolutely beautiful !
Very nice my dear friend..very detailed video👍
Thank you!!
Love your video. Thank you for all the tips, i hate watching these videos and some crafters to explain or tell what products you use. I mean really... cut the secrets out, let everyone enjoy crafting. As a crafter lifer, I agree E6000 is your go to to secure anything. Your style. I like a fully finished product (backs done) because protects the life of the item. I can't wait to create my first round door decor. Great videos, enjoy. Love your little helper.
Wow! Thank you so much for this kind comment Kerry! Very much appreciated and I am so happy it helped you
I just did my first door sign and now i hate it lolz bc i love yours!!! Going to be going bck to hobby lobby and getting another wood circle and doing this!!! Thank you
Awww thank you Natalia. If you don't like the previous one you made just sand it down and start over again. That's what I'm going to be doing with a wood round this Wednesday hahaha.
Loved your video as I hope there will be more
Thank you so very much! There are tons on my channel 😊
I ♡ the gray wood round. I'm going to try and make one for our home. You inspired me to just go for it.
Yay!! I hope you have fun creating it Fonda!!
Try using a piece of parchment paper to press the glue instead of the pencil. Works awesome!
Thank you so much for the tip Katie!
Thanks for sharing your process!
Hi Joanne! Thank you for watching! You are so very welcome
LOVE LOVE LOVE this. I'm a bit worried I may mess up pulling off the stencil. I literally cringed watching you do it. I guess the magic trick is to make sure its dried properly before attempting to remove the stencil. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
You’re very welcome Antoinette. To be honest girl it’s all trial and error. I still mess up to this day but you find what works for you and it gets easier. You got this.
What vinyl do you use.
651 oracle vinyl
I found a multi-pack of microfiber washcloths at the dollar tree. Thank you for the application suggestion !
Ohhhhh good to know! Those are definitely my go to. I've tried everything to apply stain to wood and that is by far my favorite way.
I would love to see how u make your bows and such
Love this!!!

EXCELLENT video.. very informative. I learned a lot. Thank you!!
You’re so very welcome. Thank you so much for watching Ashy!
@@UnicornDustDesigns the pleasure was all mine!!! Thanks again!!!

You're so very welcome Ashley!
These are beautiful and I am so blessed to have you here on RUclips. My wood round was a complete fail! I’m using oracle 651 and my letters will not stick for nothing! Was I suppose to let the Helsman dry for a while? I want to cry. Somebody, anybody, everybody...PLEASE HELP😥😞
I even tried to stick the vinyl on a plain wood round (no stain or nothing) and it still wouldn’t stick😩
Love the grey sign omg
Why thank you girlie!
Hello, I just came upon your RUclips and it’s been simply mesmerizing. You are absolutely informative and funny. I’ve had a rounder for 6 months and afraid to touch it but I will this week due to tour tutorials. THANKS

Thank you so much Stacy! If you try one out make sure to post it on IG and tag me! I would love to see it. ❤️
Very helpful video. Your little one is like mine...always in my workroom with me 😂. I love it when they're interested in what we're doing. Those designs look great...hope mine will look as nice 🤞 x
I love that they are interested too! I hope they continue to be interested but I also don't want them going through my craft supplies hahaha! Thank you so much for watching.
