If you are making a lot of these, a template with holes for the d-hook positions might be helpful? Just trace the round on a sheet of cardboard, measure and mark it up, and drill holes where the d-hooks should go. Then when you are ready, place the template on the back of your sign and use a marker to make dots through the drilled template holes. Hope this helps :)

I hope you don't mind but every time I watch one of your video's ( new and old) i pray for the baby in your belly and that it will ( i keep saying he in prayer) be perfectly healthy and come when it is time for it to come. I hope you don't mind. God bless you

Hi, I love your video. These are the instructions I wrote watching your video. Am I missing anything?
*ignore my typos...I did this really quick while watching the video.
    1. Sand board
    2. Stain both sides of the board for a more finished look using a 2x2 microfiber towel
    3. Using chippy paint brush apply a thin layer of clear satin sealant to one side (which will be the back side)
    a. Check for runs
    b. Poly acrylic works fine too
    4. Apply large D-hooks 3 inches from side
    5. Firmly apply painters tape and cover the edges
    6. Add decal, peel contact paper
    7. For a clean look use a mini foam paint roller to paint over the name with chalk paint.
    a. For a rustic look use the chippy brush
    b. Paint soft even coats - don’t press too hard
    8. Let dry then add second light even coat.
    a. Make sure it’s completely dry and use a blow dryer to speed up the process.
    9. After completely dry, using the webbing tool remove the decal
    a. Don’t press too hard picking up the vinyl because it may cause grooves and paint to chip
    10. Once dry dust off the chalk paint
    11. Add 1-3 coats of sealant to the front and let it dry
    a. Don’t forget the edges
    12. Add ribbon (22 in) to hooks with hot glue
    a. Place down square paper under the hook
    b. Loop ribbon through hook
    c. Fold over about 2 inches add glue and firmly hold
    13. Take the bow and greenery and wrap together using same burlap or whatever matches so that it’s 1 pc. Glue on with hot glue and e6000

    • @UnicornDustDesigns

Hello Madalyn! You are so very welcome. I would say that if this is something you plan to do to make money then yes, I would definitely recommend investing in a vinyl cutter. You can do so much more when you're able to create your own stencils and designs and then you will be able to do custom orders. I have both machines and to be honest :/ depends on how far you want to go with the wood signs. UGH Help!!! I just realized I wasn’t supposed to put the sealer on the front before I painted on my saying. Is there anything I can do to salvage it? do I have to resort to vinyl on it now? I really wanted to paint the design. HELP!

    • @UnicornDustDesigns
      @UnicornDustDesigns  3 года назад +3

Hi Pam. You can just take some smooth sandpaper like 220 for example and sand that down so it’s smooth and then apply your paint and stencil.

Helmsman is my FAVORITE! I did a kitchen table in it years ago and it’s now my craft table. I’ve beat it up, ironed on it, etc and it has held up. Our current kitchen table has a factory poly on it and it clouds up at the hint of a hot dinner plate or water glass. I plan to sand and coat it in Helmsman for a better, more durable finish.

Yes! I’ve priced around at all hardware stores and Home Depot by far is the better price. I also like that at Home Depot the rounds are not wrapped up so you can see the wood grain and if they have damage.
