When I was a wee lad my maternal grandfather owned a 60s-era D8 Cat rigged for forestry operations, with which he used to chop out a coastal housing development, up in the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. I can recall sitting crammed into the operator's seat with him, while he pushed slash into a giant bonfire. For a little kid, this was quite the highlight of my life at the time.
Those are good memories sharing time with gramps or dads. Had alot of those myself. No talking needed just share the time and experience required to put food on the table and provide all that's needed by his family.

I like how he's using the dirt off the high side to build a ramp to get up higher to get more dirt off the high side that is an experienced operator knows what he's doing because there's no way to get that dirt off the high side that high without doing what he's doing
Watched another video of a cut and fill road being built. This dozer operator knows what he's doing. The other operator was a hack. I'd rather watch a skilled operator any day.
I operated a 1981 model terex dozer close to this size. It was a beast, execept you had to reset the pins to change the angle of the blade. We put a v8-92 in it,mostly pushing scrapers.
They now use excavators, loaders, graders and packers but in my logging days, a good cat skinner on a D8 could do a mile a day from stumps to truck ready road.
We had a slope blade on upper corner of main blade. So much faster and not as hard on bottom rollers..also didn't leave near the loose material on slopes...erosion was far less..slopes were more stable..
I seriously doubt it! A backhoe might move 2 or 3 cubic yards of dirt (most likely a lot less) at a time! This dozer is moving a whole lot more dirt than that!
Nice video. We don’t know the story here. This is probably a pioneer road for a purpose such as logging or temporary entry. Budget. Or third world country. Who knows? If it was supposed to be a slick job I’d say build a ramp with dirt up to highest point of slope and worked it down leaving a 1:1 or 2:1 or 3:1. But that’s in ideal conditions. Maybe they’ll go back and slope with a trackhoe , small finish dozer later? Looks as if the trees were not cleared properly in advance and this guy is just roughing out square cut slopes around the tree line for a temporary access. If that’s not the case, yes, this upper slopes will wash, freeze and thaw and fall chunks in the ditchline etc.... but who knows? We don’t know the story. I wonder what the quality level on a Komatsu d85 is? Parts availability? Mechanic familiarity? Reliability? I’ve always had Cat. Some Deere. Some Case. Some international. Mostly Cat.

Not to bad a job building a log road it looks like. But when backing, bring the corner bit up next to the slope knocking loose any build up. Helps make the slope look nicer. But as long as i was watching your video of a bulldozer with training wheels, i would have had 15-20 stations built with ditch pulled for Weyerhaeuser, and thier roads cant be goat trails, must have 14 foot road width and ditch. And all from my CAT D8L. At least there is a vein of rotten rock to help with the ballast. Not bragging or tooting my horn, but i was Weyerhaeusers number 1 road builder. The grader didnt even need to come and polish off the road for the rocking of it. All around grays harbor to south of pe el logging camp.
LOL 14 foot road, here we run 16ft bunks. You Yanks really think you're something...lmao. So full of it 1500 to 2000 feet in under 8 minutes give me a fucking break. And it's ballisting lol Can't even get the terminology right.
Love this stuff , you`ve got ground you couldn`t walk on come back a little later you could drive the family car along it . Trouble is when the operator gets to worn out he becomes not worth fixing . Worn out boomer .

really nice to see a you tube video that shows a good operator doing it right. cheers
No idea why I'm here, but that was oddly fun to watch. Loving that plow
I had some dozer work done a while back on my channel to build shooting range. I enjoy watching the machines pushing dirt.

i want a dozer. but i don't need one, so let's buy one anyways
Melhor máquina à meu ver! Komatsu 85 fenomenal!
They now use excavators, loaders, graders and packers but in my logging days, a good cat skinner on a D8 could do a mile a day from stumps to truck ready road.
I’m confused at how they deal with landslides later on?

Tks for sharing
Great Job ....
wow good job bro
Could use a slope board for that dozer
Awesome jab
So that’s how they do it.
Must be hard to do this work without a tilt cylinder
Not hard at all for an experienced operator
Gostei muito do serviço parabéns

The fastest way use excavator dig and left/walk forward/ use front wheel loader move soil follow
continued success brother. ❤️ sukses terus saudara.💪3
Eu sou operador de máquinas pesadas mas confesso que o rapaz aí
Question can a backhoe do it faster?
I seriously doubt it! A backhoe might move 2 or 3 cubic yards of dirt (most likely a lot less) at a time! This dozer is moving a whole lot more dirt than that!
