I forgot to mention that the REPAIRMAN found these photos/chat evidence and he gave/sold it to a reporter, he did not hand it to the police first, if you suspect crime or danger wouldn’t you contact the police and not a reporter? It was only after the news spreading so big and so quickly that the police began investigating this case. Some people say because he is scared of corruption so he gave it reporters, then why didn’t the reporter give it to the police? Instead the news outlet released exclusive news and made a lot of money from it. There is obviously something we don’t know, otherwise the repairman wouldn’t be under investigation too.

I have read (how true? don't know) that the repairman did not go to the police because of corruption. I watched your video and It's hard for me to say he should get a pass in this. Yes he exposed vile and horrific crimes but at the same time he may have also committed one himself (unfamiliar with the law there) and if he's not charged or at least fined then what kind of message does that send? This is such a heartbreaking mess.

And reporters actually try to safely put up and secure their witness or source because they need them to verify and validate what has been reported in case of... so yeah I would trust a reporter especially the ones that have been involved in revealing other scandals.. maybe it's just or I'm stupid but that what i would have done instead of going to the cops that is probably rotten to the core.

Honestly, if we were to look at what the repairman did independently, I actually agree with you. It was a gross breach of privacy that is 100% illegal. I’m not sure how Korean laws work, but it was a breach of confidentiality.
Kudos to the crime being exposed though. Big Bang was and always will be my forever flame, but should evidence that eliminates reasonable doubt be shown, action must be taken.

@Me Me their is such a thing as privacy. If I send personal, it migh even be a little racy, text to someone I don't want a repair reading those texts. Let's be honest here that repairman was looking for dirt. He had a celebrities phone and wanted to see what private info he could find out about that celebrity. He was not snooping through the phone looking for illegal content just personal/private. He just happened by luck to hit the mother load. How many more celebrities phones has he went through and got private info on them. How do we know he hasn't sold personal information from the phones he's been snooping in. The repairman is violating his clients privacy which is illegal. Yes he found something this one time but how about all the innocent people's privacy he violated before this. He violated people just like Seungri and them did just In a different way. He should be punished according to the violation he committed.

However if you don't allow them, Idk about others but my uncle(who is one) assured me that 96% of the time they can't bothered to do those kind of shit, even if they did, they would've seen more shit than that. So unless they see something illegal by accident, they won't do anything or care.

But to both of you I don't think it was his first intention to safe those girls and how could he know that jjy did such things (so how did he know that they don't deserve privacy?)? The repairman probably was on the search for nudes, couple pictures or something along the lines to sell it to the media. So his initial action wasn't driven by morals or justice. That make him a bad person... Yes, he found smth and helped the girls with it, but at the end he did snoop around jjy phone to create some sort of typical scandal (eg. Dating) aka ruin someone's private life which they would have deserved to have. So what I am implying is that maybe the outcome is good, but still the initial thought wasn't that hero-like like you all make it seem

So I work in IT and have previously worked as a support agent, when I did we sometimes had to help customers call a phone-company that repaired their phones because we did not provide that by ourselves. One of the requirements for letting the customers have their phones repaired was that they deleted everything on the phone. Even the company themselves admitted that while working on the phone to solve issues they sometimes happened to find personal information, for example having to test if the calling functionality worked they would have to go to the phone list to make a phone call.
Now where I am located we have the GDPR law in place to protect peoples personal information.
But in the case of hearing or finding incriminating evidence of crime I think is still required to be reported.
Now I don't know about the laws regarding personal versus public information in Korea but I do not think that there is any agreements or laws on doing what that repairmen did.
But I could be wrong since it is probably a Korean company they might have different laws on this.
But usually in most places I do not think looking through a phone as a repairmen is illegal.
On the other hand, just a suggestion; delete any personal information before giving it to any repairing company.
I am even surprised that such a high status celebrity would not delete the contents of their phone.

I believe here in 🇨🇦 if u take in computers or phones 4 repair, if when doing the recovery of data process they see an inkling of illegal activity, they are required to report it or it's aiding & abetting a crime & it's really taken serious here.
Also, I'm betting golden phone had recent activity too & that's what spurred the technician to look further. Key point is; this was a lifestyle not a random act. Thank goodness he reported it & used the channels he did or this would still be hidden & more victims would be hurt.
Let's reflect here a bit... This is such a societal pervasive issue which begs us to ask the question, why aren't people valuing each other? Where is their moral compass & who is guiding young people to understand it's importance? And it's also important to ask why the companies who train people in the entertainment industry, why aren't educating they their staff better?
    Something needs to change...
Personally, last night I was watching the reports from SK here in 🇨🇦. I read tweets, news articles & saw news clips from all over the world. But when I heard more about the victims, everything went into slow motion, I felt their pain; my stomach was turning & my heart hurts, tears were rolling down my face. How & why would you hurt someone you've been so intimate with, then use their weakness against them & then on top of that flaunt it in a forum for men to jeer at? It's the ultimate betrayal & form of evil. This is cruel beyond words.
Recently I've deleted music from my itunes act & I like many others have been soared by this whole affair. They all need to do better.

And he still should be punished for this crime! And I don’t think he had a good intention, when he did that he couldn’t possibly know what he would find. And who knows maybe he saw something else that was more recent that hinted at illegal activities that made him prove deeper? I’m guessing it will come out in the trial. I’m glad he went to the reporter and not the police. The GC clearly talks about bribing police. I just wanted to mention that JJY left his broken phone in the digital forensics company (where the chat was discovered by the informant) for data recovery in the first place. So while restauring the data as he was supposed to do he probably came across something suspicious and decided to report.. Invading privacy? sure, but I'd say he was an accidental hero
Oh another thing is that during his previous scandal in 2016 when he was accused by his ex-girlfriend of secretly filming her, police asked for his phone but JJY said it was broken and that he left it for data recovery in that same company.. So JJY is definetely not the normal customer and the whistleblower probably had some informations or suspicions even before starting the process.

But instead, he goes to the media with the expectation to bring this crime to the light. Now imagine if this repairman being punished of what he did, what do you think of people would do if they found something not right as big as this one in the future, they just gonna ignore it in order to keep them out of trouble. If the police think he needs to be searched than so be it, if he sat there and scrolled through years worth of messages just to find something he could be a scam artist like you said, a blackmailer, could be trying to steal someones identity, etc. And yes he would be an accessory if he saw the illegal activity and didn't say anything. I do not think the repairman is wrong. If you give your phone for repairing, there are three common senses that you need to know:
    1. Back up your own files first. If not, tell the repairman to back it up in front of you first.
    2. Once you let someone else holding your phone, he/she can do anything to your phone, so make sure there's nothing bad/private there.
    3. If you are afraid that your personal infos will be breached, never log anything important in permanently/always put password in every acc. 🤷‍♀️
I dont know about your country, but that's the common sense in my country when you want to repair any electronic device. Make sure that it is clean yourself. You dont know what happens when you are not there. Therefore, I dont think the repairman is wrong. Just an opinion.

I know I feel the same way, technology sometimes depends on system, brand and even the device. People are assuming that he invaded his privacy. But i have a friend that repairs and recovers data from computers and laptops and in some cases he had to go through the data manually due to corrupted files and other tech stuff I don't understand. He is not a creep and he warms clients that sometimes he will see all or most of the stored data on the device in case they wish to not go through it if there is sensitive information. There is many kind of people and situations, without the whole story we don't know the repairman's motivation to browse the data. I think that if he was just perving he would have kept the videos and never talked, him waiting could have been fear due to corrupted police. It's quite complicated because we don't know this person, so at this point we are just speculating about his motivations and character.

The repairman was tasked to recover data from the phone so of course, he had to look into the files to make sure it was successful. I think you are asking the wrong question.
The question should be: When one crime reveals a bigger crime, should the initial crime be punished? Is he/she considered a criminal? Legally yes, but morally due to the enormity of the crime no.
Obviously you bring up an big point in the invasion of privacy which I do think should be punishable. However, how can you assume that the repairman did this to multiple people? Unless there have been cases of stolen identity it would be rash to make such a judgement and put him in the same box as Seungri and 'friends'.
Another question should be why did he wait 5 years before sending this information in? This would decide if he was a hero or not because he could have prevented any more victims if this type of criminal activity continued to occur from 2015.
Then we should take into account that in recent updates and the repairman would know how connected the guys were to the police. How would he hand in the information and report this.

I don't have any explicit things on my phone, but I know other people do. This thought made me feel like he was looking for things like nudes or something. I had a major panic attack in the parking lot. AT&T treated the incident poorly when I reported it, so I switched carriers and had to pay fees to leave the company. I used to have his job, so I know he didn't need to access any of that. It was a traumatizing experience. I caught him because I didn't want to do a reset just yet. But how many other customers did he do this to? And is still doing this to, because he wasn't even reprimanded formally by the company?
That being said, I also used to do pc repair. We weren't allowed to snoop, BUT there are some instances where you happen across sensitive info. For most illicit things, we were just to ignore it. But for cases like this, or things like other major crimes, we were allowed to report it. And the repair guy was supposed to be doing data recovery, from what I've heard, so coming across years old messages and seeing their contents could happen as part of the job. If he snooped, he's wrong and should be dealt with, but if he didn't and just happened on it as part of the data recovery, then he did the right thing. It's likely impossible to know his intentions at the time, so given he helped put an end to some of this debauchery and criminal activity, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I do agree with you, snooping through people's phones is probably something he shouldn't have been doing at all. But again, he shouldn't be incriminated for snooping either. After all, its thanks to him this is being brought to light, as it rightfully should. Whether he leaked the chats or not, it doesn't change the fact that he still looked through the phone. If it had been found out that he did look through the phone and saw the messages but chose to NOT report them, it would look even worse on his part and could lead him to being an associate of the crime.

I've watched a few of these videos but I feel like your view of it all is the best. Since you know how Korea works more than others.

EXACTLY. that's the first thing I thought about. But I guess we can all agree that it was for the better than he did in this case. If he chose to not say anything, it probably would've been even worse

i think that repairman story is definitely a cover up for the original informant. A regular repairman would be delighted to find tons of free porn instead of reporting it.

    The repairman is no hero
He was just a reason to expose a crime and save lifes
Its just a coincidence that they were doing something illegal
