  • In Australia approximately 8 people per day die by committing suicide. Today I lost a mate of over 20 years from suicide, so this video is designed to create awareness in the community and I discuss my personal beliefs on the topic to possibly prevent suicide in the future.

    Thanks mate, the first time I cut my wrist I was 14, I’m 35 now and have had some good experiences working interstate, the last time was bad with a wood ceiling breaking from a powercord that wrecked my throat cause I’m a fat c, after meeting a girl for once, career over, mates gone, moved towns, family are sick of it, going from the lowest low to a unimaginable place, didn’t eat, sleep, participate in any social events, stopped servicing the car, don’t dive anymore, live alone on centrelink and addicted to connection through youtube, I’ve mentioned I need help to some but everyone is busy trying to catch up. I’m still in a conundrum but videos like this do help and make me think, some people just get sick of getting beat up time after time while trying their best and never recover. I’ve made my mistakes through choice with a kiss and a hug from mum but no guidance can lead to being lost. I used to have a go with half a head on my shoulders but it’s gone. I truly commend you for putting this out. Sorry I had nothing positive to say, there’s so many more that are worse off than me so we have to think of them. Hopefully going to start a new job sometime soon.
    You got me man this is real. One of the most successful guys I’ve met with a 300k business and family have gone under, amazing skippers and school mate’s. I’ve identified that sometimes your family is not the best for you sometimes and you’ve gotta do it yourself. Sorry mate I’m going overboard and barely with it but here we are. Keep spreading your good Aussie care. I don’t know if this comment seems selfish, just got me at the right time. Good luck on the property mate, Seeya around

    Sorry to hear Ozzie, I couldn't imagine the pure shock and sadness that comes with that, its a horrible thing nobody should have to go through. If anyone is ever having suicidal thoughts just understand that committing suicide will not stop any pain, all it will do is pass it on to loved ones and friends. Never be afraid to speak up and get help, there is always help available.

    Very timely topic at a very turbulent time especially down here in Vic - not too long back had a good mate of few words, but big on heart look pretty beat up & was doing it tough mentally - plenty of anti’s would scream but I got him out to the range with me for a day - he hadn’t shot in years - you could see the stress & anxiety in his life just evaporate as the day moved along - he’s now bought a target rifle, is hitting gongs & loving life again - his wife credits his new upbeat outlook to that day out to the range & emotionally states that I potentially saved his life - no small thing. Thanks again Ozzie.

    I appreciate you bring light to this subject as any talk is helpful. It’s nice that you are able to have people at your property and give them some time to mentally unwind.
    I know you don’t claim to be an expert, but depression and suicide is a lot more complicated than environmental factors. Circumstances & chemical imbalances are massive. It’s complicated!
    I myself have suffered from anxiety and depression for the past 15 years, I’m 27 now and doing better than ever, but 6 short months ago I was in a pretty bad way.
    Sadly for us firearm owners, seeking profession help for depression and risk your firearms license, but thankfully that hasn’t been my experience, with my doctors trusting my judgement and seeing shooting for the positive influence it is on my life.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  2 года назад

      Certainly agree with you there but my question is what causes those circumstances and chemical imbalances? My view is a person's environment whether it be a bad relationship, a bad job or bad living arrangements is a major factor to those issues developing. As I say I'm not a professional but I read an interesting case study of a guy who worked in a factory and was diagnosed with depression, he was regularly crying at work, he hated his job and going to work each day. Long story short was that in the small town where he lived, a group of people including his doctor asked him what he would love to do instead of his factory job, he said he wanted to be a farmer so these people chipped in to buy him some milking cows which he used the milk to sell to people in the small town, his business grew and he no longer had any signs of depression, he was suddenly full of energy and couldn't wait to get up every day to milk the cows and sell his milk. The argument put forward by the authoring phycologist, was that the major contributing factor to his depression was environment. I found it very interesting...

    • @darkhorse4148
      @darkhorse4148 2 года назад

      Well in my case mate, it’s not known. I come from a loving family, financially comfortable, no trauma in my childhood, yet at 13 years of age, my world fell apart. Since then it’s been a battle that I have won, but a battle. Been suicidal many times and i didn’t expect to be here today, that’s for sure.
      You might find that the main reason why people like coming to your farm is it take them from their reality. Sure, they might be from the city, but if you were to swap spots with them, their depression could soon follow. Sadly too many farmers are lost every year as we all know to well. The most recent person I have lost semi close to me ended his life on his farm. So sad.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  2 года назад +1

      @@darkhorse4148 Yep there are a lot of farmers that suicide, the ones I have known have done it from financial troubles, mainly from our government deregulating the industry as they did with the dairy industry. They called the police who come around and beat the crap out of him, pepper sprayed him then took him to a hospital where he didn’t belong. His firearms license was and firearms were taken away and was deemed not a fit and proper person to ever hold one again. As far as the government is concerned mental health is an incurable condition that one can never recover. The person who called lifeline ruined this guy’s life. Be careful people don’t trust the government.
