What's cool about James is that Fire and Rain is literally perfect. But he was cool enough to have fun and do a parody of his own stuff. Props to the original JT for not being "that guy" who thinks that his songs are the second coming of Christ.... some of his fans do and that's cool, but he's level headed about it.

I’m a little late to the party here,
but this is just too important not to weigh in.
I was actually around back then and we were taught
there are some things you just don’t do
      and one of them was,
“You Don’t Mess Around With Jim”
      You Millennials,
always lookin’ down at your phones
      might not know,
“When the bad folks all get together at night
You know they all call big Jim boss,
      just because,
      And they say;
You don't tug on superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
AND YOU DON’T MESS AROUND WITH JIM
So I just don’t want to have to say this again,
      I am a pool-shootin’ boy
      My name is Willie McCoy
But down home they call me “Slim”
      You Millennials need to
      Find out where it's at
And it's not hustlin' people strange to you
Even if you do got a two-piece, custom-made, pool cue
      Well...do,do,do,
      Uptown got its hustlers,
      Bowery got its bums, 🎵🎶’
      ruclips.net/video/1dT90zwuV1s/видео.html
      Sticks-of-TNT 🧨🧨
P.S. All in fun My Millennials ...
With apologies to the late, great Jim Croce and James Taylor, much love. You STILL rock‼️

Didn't know much about him and could vaguely recognized some of his big hits. Then, for two hours I felt like it was just me, my girlfriend and the 30/40 people immediately around us alone with him and his band. Good songwriters just go on and on. I need to give him more credit for being my mentor and making my career. I had no idea when I did a cover of this song in 1971 how long lasting and influential it would become. JT you are tops. and yes Colbert does a nice job on the verses.

We met James and Carly in 1975 when a friend invited us to dinner and hinted he had some special guests, and we were absolutely struck by how genuine and humble they both were. I was so nervous all I could do was smile and nod. Wish I could go back to those times.

Bye Golly um have you read the Constitution, it is the Dem Socialist Democrats ( Marxist) who have been destroying our rights of free speech and right to defend ourselves; incidentally the U.S. pollution rates are way down this year as well and unemployment is at historic levels. Turn off the Dem owned networks and think for yourself-truth is only a research away.

I just love that James has no ego and can spoof his song. Coming from perhaps the most influential songwriter of the 1970's. Pit his top ten songs against any other solo artist of that time and he stands out at the top.

How many artists with such a catalog of hit songs would come up with funny lyrics to one of their biggest hits? As great as James is and as long as his career has gone, he still doesn't take himself too seriously. How many of today's singer/songwriters will still be relevant into their late 60's?
