Eis explained on his twitter thread that he had received similar benefits from 3rd party tools during their P8s prog and therefore deleted their character. He later returned to the game after like 6 months of hiatus and now streams 14. There's been a lot of rumors about who leaked the cheating footage. The two most common explaination is that either an argument erupted amongst the 9ths and the players as the 9th members were promised a clear (with help from people who had cleared), but were then denied, and would do that as revenge; or, it is as what their team has said, the prog footage that was streamed privately onto youtube, but their account was hacked and leaked. Rumors are, ultimately, rumors, so we would not know what actually happened. As for streams, Kindred's stream gains a lot of traction (due to their Range Player's callouts on Hello World - Red is defamation, pass rot, pop green, watch rots) and they seem to have the streaming world first. Iron, descent, fire Iron Chariot, Raven's Dive, Thermonic Beam Out, spread, stack The reason the UCoB group also got extra LB was from having low HP with the LB3 active. They would have died from the smaller pulses, not just the final heavy pulse. The last heavy pulse is always lethal even at full HP so you just always get one free bar from 8 people "dying" and surviving with mitigation. For the smaller pulses, you needed to have your HP already low enough to "die" from each pulse. Each "lethal" pulse for 8 people was a free LB bar. I would add that there’s some leak of TOP mechanics from SE itself. I would add that there’s some leak of TOP mechanics from SE itself. In the largest Chinese ffxiv community, NGA, one guy was constantly releasing details about mechanics right ahead of the streaming groups. (I’m not saying this is the origin of the leak but at least all the streamers lack this knowledge). For example when the streamers reached p4, he said the target in this phase is to put the HP below 20%. And when streamers just entered p5, he immediately explained how the hello world buff works. At first I thought this is just some annoying person from non-streaming prog teams with faster prog. Then I saw him releasing two videos about dynamis delta and sigma. In those videos, he just walked around the arena showing all the mechanics with UI hidden, with only one person in the group and invulnerable from the failure of mechanics. Apparently not even a third party tool can achieve that. I think this is unfair that western streamers don’t know that because there are hundreds of people watching those leaks before moderators deleting the comments. So I also told these information to kindred in stream chat. Some Chinese players scolded me for “ruining the experience of players and audience”. But first kindred said they are not against any public information so I chose to told them. And second this really doesn’t matter much because they already know some mechanics of HW buffs and in that leaking video you still can’t see how a few mechanics, for example there’s no tethers because only one person is there. Also there’s a huge gap between knowing the mechanics and solving the strategy. But other than that, as altia7945 has mentioned, it has been really an enjoyable journey for streamers and the community. For example I was the guy providing Kindred the strategy for sigma towers. They initially had some strategy but it seems it relies heavily on the ninth man calling out almost everyone how they need to move and they couldn’t get through the mechanics consistently. (Here is also something I wonders, is it unfair for these world proggers having multiple ninth men doing calling outs whereas normal players have to observe all mechanics alone. Again this is not to justify the usage of ACT.) Later on they interacted with another Chinese strategy maker called Xiao Ku小哭, this guy was streaming making strategies by watching stream from kindred. And apparently some of optimized strats also affected kindred’s gameplay. They even had a voice chat later and these clips received tens of thousands of views in Chinese community in one day.
I said DSR had 8 phases but that’s incorrect - it has 7. I had included the intermission between phase 4 and 5 which in hindsight shouldn’t really be counted.
I have mixed feelings about the cheating scandal. Winning with mods is cheating when the game is designed and balanced around vanilla. On the other hand, every team going for world first were doing exactly the same thing, it just never leaked. You think nobody streamed their prog just to protect their discovery and strats?
If you're talking RuneLite script tier mods that tell you where and when to stand for mechanics effectively playing the game for you, then yeah. That s*** needs to go. But people were banned for simply using zoomhacks which is honestly less a "cheat" than a QoL change that people have been asking for since years back when 8 man encounters started to become more involved to the point of having multiple instances of mechanics spanning the entire arena including the area around it triggering simultaneously and/or back to back. Some "hacks" exist in the first place to make up for missing features that should already be in the game to begin with and nobody would complain about having a higher max camera distance. If this isn't what the devs want, then they honestly shouldn't balance the game in such a way that has you fighting the camera more than the boss in the first place.
I think it's slightly incorrect to say nothing came out of the TPS cheating. Their use of paisley park (the plugin that auto sets waymarks during combat) lead to the restriction of waymarks being only placeable outside of combat.
Although you are correct (and it's obviously the reason they did) technically it was never specifically stated that this was the reason for the change, and also no one got punished directly. I believe that's what the video means by "nothing came of it" rather than no changes came because of it.
Funnily enough, there used to be strats in place that involved being able to move waymarks back in ARR during Turn 9 divebombs. Although, that usually resulted in someone being the designated divebomb safespot identifier since there wasn't really any plugins at the time outside of ACT callouts.
Just a random gripe as someone who has done all the ultimates but Dragonking Thordan is _not_ a hard final phase. In terms of final phase difficulty - TOP > UWU (counting from when ultima spawns in) > TEA >>> DSR > UCOB
