Excellent video. Really apprciate the thorough & unbiased review of FreeTaxUSA
Just finished using FreeTaxUSA for the first time and this video was extremely helpful. Thank you!
I'm trying it this year, having used paper up until now. It did allow for the uploading of the W2 info. for my wife, but I had a problem with mine & had to manually insert it. It might of been that I renamed the file, but knowing that my wife's did upload it does have the capability for the 2023 taxes. So, far I'm really liking it.
Excellent demanstration. I try my Tax returns today and through this vedio and like it, by step by step explanation,Thank you very much.
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for your insightful and educational information
Glad it was helpful and thank you so much for your support of the channel!
Thank you for this video. It was worth watching every minute. I was wondering if you could elaborate on child tax credit as well as EIC?
We have used TaxUSA for our tax file since 2019!
Thanks Bro, I am going to try it.
No problem!
Hello - I´m a US citizen living abroad and I have a foreign employer. I usually file the 1040 with the foreign income exclusion form 2555 and I´m super fine as I earn a lot less that the IRS limit. Last year I made the mistake of accepting some freelance work with translation and editing of technical videos with a total amount of 1,199 dollars... for the whole year! I filed my taxes this year but only included a form called profit and loss from business with my 1040 and the 2555. The IRS wrote me a letter asking for the Schedule 2 form and it´s respective attachments (forms and schedules). I saw your video on the Schedule SE and I got that figured out until the very last line when we apply a 50% discount on the fed and med taxes. I put this number on schedule 1 but I´m not sure what to include on Schedule 2 as Self-employment tax (line 4) and how much I owe the IRS (form 1040 lines 23, 24, 37)? They didn´t say anything about my 1040 form, but in there, I put the full amount without the 50% discount, now I´m not sure what to do. Help!
Do FreeTaxUSA support the reporting of your foreign investments? This is something that H&R Block does support, but doesn't support well. They just make you edit the standard tax forms.
Thanks!
No problem!
Does it allow to attach additional supporting documents to avoid an audit? (Claiming Dependents)
Does your system permit the user to provide written explanations related to their tax return?
I have an online shop in Europe (where I live). Are you guys able to help? What forms should I work with?
How come I’m not receiving my federal and already got my California refund . I didn’t even get help thru their support . I have been “processing “since Feb 14!!! And got audited and did fax everything … immediately got my Californian and never a letter to amend I’m so frustreTteddddd
At what point do you upload your w2 or 1099?
2nd year, so at 4:55 did i have to edit this even thou it was young children? at the end when paying it said i didn't have any dependents and i had to go back and edit each one, so confusing why i had to do this
What if I'm filing married filing separate but my spouse outside of the USA (I'm in the USA coz war in Ukraine under a TPS status) and don't have ITIN or SSN but system require it? should I be able to submit online or I need to print it out and put a note that SSN/ITIN not available/ NRA
I'm a financial planner and a client showed my this software. Is the free version fairly simple to enter Schedule D Capital gains/losses? Thanks. Happy New Year!
You have to manually input every trade, but I think it is simple to do if not time consuming
Tax Avocate told me IRS isn't helping no one till after November 30th 2023
My information isnt showing on the irs app, do i need to print and mail something? I selected to e-file a prior tax year but i feel like im missing unnecessary steps i dont have to do with turbo tax. I hope it isnt mandatory
Are you referring to the IRS “Where’s my Refund” tool?
I just want to print the return to do a paper return filing
Ive used H&R Block for years, but the UI every year seems more trifling and they pretty much corner the customer to eventually pick the program that cost the most. The Deluxe is pointless because price they charge to file state makes the total slightly less than the cost of Pro. I'm thinking about using this program, but is it worth it? I have to file 1040, 1099 misc., state, student loan tax form, and I a 18yr child dependent.
Where do you mail the file, my bank account number is on the forms, that is taking a risk.
So freetax won't charge me if I have a capital gain from the sale of a stock?
I would need forms schedule D and 8949 along with my 1040.
That is correct
Hey Bro, You mentioned that there is no import options available in FreeTaxUSA from brokerages for 1099-B (only Stocks trading), but I can see on their website they say if you have more than 10 trading transactions in the fiscal year then please put the summary amounts, which means entry for individual trade is NOT necessary, so i don't think it's an issue, am I missing something by NOT doing the individual entries for each and every trade?? Please guide me.
Also, my 1099-B says that my all my trades falls under A category which means all trades had been reported to IRS, is that the reason why FreeTaxUSA website is giving me an option to put the trading summary only because trades were already reported to IRS ?
Unfortunately I don't know enough on how FreeTaxUSA actually exports that information to your return to give a confident answer. But, if they say all you need to give is a summary I would presume that should be fine
If i chose an electronic file version of my tax return filed on FreeTaxUSA, can i then print them out myself? Or would I simply have to request a bound paper version? At an extra cost?
The screen showed on the bottom that you can still print it with Adobe so you don’t need to pay for them to mail it out to you.
if I have a W2 and 1042-S - how should I include 1042-S interest ($13) in this case under 1040? under interest/dividend income or others?
It looks like you need to file a 1040NR for non US residents. I don't know if this will work for you, but it dosn't cost you to try. I also suggest that you go to IRS.gov and download publication 4011. Good Luck
How many jobs are we able to do ?
how do I amend taxes after I filed I missed up
FreeTaxUSA offers the ability to amend your return, you can also file a Form 1040-X by yourself to amend it and we have a video walking you through that as another option
Is Freetax filing free for state if AGI is less than $46,000? I see that statement on their site, but it's trying to make me pay.
I’m unfamiliar with that, but if it’s true I’m sure you need to access the FreeTaxUSA site through the IRS Free File tool
How do I report 1099-G to box 6(Taxable Grants)?
Here’s what I’ve got from their FAQs
www.freetaxusa.com/help/display_faq.jsp?enter-form-1099-g&faq_id=1606
Sorry for the unsolicited gripe/B session: Every time I do taxes I question my sanity and smarts... not sure if I am a complete fudging moron or just somewhat of an idiot...how come I feel like I'm doing a difficult sudoku and having to jump around to different forms? I feel like doing one form causes me to jump around to other forms and to other worksheets..
Almost feels like one of those choose you own adventure books, except minus the fun.
Doing taxes related to an MLP was a nightmare, and I'm dreading the taxes related to overpaying (overpaying taxes last year due to getting paid too much - and then having to repay about 3000 dollars)... are there specific forms related to an overpayment that I probably would miss?
Hi, thank you the video
do you know if i can file tax using freetaxusa if i am on H1 B visa ?
I'd reach out to the customer support since they're pretty responsive, I'm not sure on that question
can i use this with a cellphone internet. or only with computer/laptop?
Great question, I would think you can do it on a browser on your phone but I have not tried that
How do you record your self along with the screen?
I use the Microsoft "Capture" program
Will this work if I have a small S-Corp??
I would think so, but to be sure I would reach out to their customer support to verify. In my experience with my CPA, they recommended choosing to be taxed as a partnership until we start bringing in around $60,000 in profit because we will have to hire out the payroll needed for it
Is the California Middle class refund taxed on freetaxusa?
I'm not familiar with individual tax taxes, but I would think @TaxFreeUSA probably does
We got married Oct 2022 but forgot to update W4 so W2 form states Single, can we use the correct status Married Filing Joint for the return so we could get refund?
Your W4 only affects your withholding, so yes you can file as married filing jointly
FreeTaxUSA's software, according to its online description, will not allow the taxpayer to import documents. That is a severe defect, because many middle income taxpayers buy and sell shares of stock. Selling stock shares generates a 1099B at each sale. That must be reported on a Schedule D. In order to do that, the 1099Bs must be imported to the software program from the stock broker's website. If the free software is not capable of doing that and FreeTaxUSA does not offer such software - for which I am willing to pay - then it is of no value to me.
self employed 1099
My Federal return differs by a large amount between TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA. I’m not even sure why?
Same here with the same two programs. Mine was spot on on the Federal but the state differed significantly.
Did you ever figured out what was different? Which one did you choose?
Same here. Now they want me to mail in my taxes & hard copies but they keep declining my card for payment.
Can international students on F-1 visa status file the tax returns using freetaxusa?
I'm not sure on that one, but their customer support is pretty responsive and I'm sure they'd get an answer back to you pretty quickly
Freetax usa is saying no e file is available?? It has to be mailed in...
@FreeTaxUSA should be monitoring the comments and hopefully be about to help you with this problem
Hi Kellz! Some situations can prevent your return from being e-filed and our support team would be happy to assist you in providing more clarification. Please contact our support team through the support email found in your account, or by signing into your account, so that we can assist you further.
@FreeTaxUSA Situations like what? What if I file and will be become a dependent for my mother? Could that prevent e-file?
can i use this with my cellphone or only with laptop/computer?
@@angelbluerider9588 Yes, you can file on our site from either of those devices!
I am a 1099 Author/writer can they handle this
Yes they should be able to
So basically this sucks for a person that trades. Got it.
