Rich dad and poor dad was the book that made me hate my job, the book that changed my any point of view about money

The alchemist was great. Before I had read it I had just finished reading a rather sad but interesting book about a Russian prison. It sort of left me feeling a little down about things. Then I came across the alchemist and was loving every page of it. I feel a sort of nostalgia whenever I see it on my book shelf now. I know I'll read it again someday. It's part of my personal legend lol🙂
This was the first book I read and I don't care if any other book is better than this, I still consider The Alchemist as my favorite and beloved Book.
The power of now....great book on awareness also , how to lose your job , pay no bills and live like a monk !

This book is overrated. Just finished it and can say it is not life changing if you've read a lot of other self help books already.

This is always the message in the first chapters of selfhelp books. _you will fail at life_
They talk you into believing you have an imaginary disadvantage, something they pull out of thin air, then they offer you the non-solution in the final chapters. You'll get more and more delusional the farther you get into the book, but if you don't read until the end you don't get the delusional voodoo to deal with your new problems. A lot of people get f'd up by reading such books.
If you want to read a book, read Moby Dick.
Or Lord of the Flies.
Or go completely meta and read Infinite Jest.

@@gonzothegreat1317 I disagree. There are diamonds in the rough of self-help books. Two that come to mind are David Goggins Can't Hurt Me, and Jocko Willink/Leif Babbin Extreme Ownership. In the books, they actually actively chastise the disadvantage and victim ideologies. Goggins even delves into the idea that he himself was a bitch for having once believed it. The idea these books present is "no matter where you are in life, success takes hard work, and depending on where you want to be, can be close to impossible, but if you push hard enough and put in enough effort, eventually anyone can succeed. Keyword: anyone. Not everyone

In this list I have read only Rich Dad poor Dad and that has completely changed my perspective towards money and life in general. Also I would suggest readers to read the book THE POWER OF SUBCONSCIOUS MIND by Joseph Murphy. It is a great book.

There are so many more good books than just these that will teach you new/useful things! For instance, if you want to succeed at life, read Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker PhD. You've heard sleep is important, but you will be surprised how much it enhances all areas of life and how sickly people become when deprived of a full night's sleep. It's fascinating and very useful for improving in many different areas of life.
I actually don’t agree with your point of view regarding reading too many books is useless. Each book offers you a different unique view of certain things or ways to look at certain things. To limit your options to only a few books, say 7, it doesn’t challenge your way of thinking but rather keeping you in that same box/same mentality for the rest of your life. You see everything in YOUR point of view. Yes, some books could be repetitive and sounds the same, but that’s why you keep reading until you come across a book that challenges your way of thinking. Keep reading.
It's depend on what you will do after reading these books, it
encourage you to take steps the way forward.

Now that I've read my fair share of books, I've decided to make my own must-read books (will be posting that on my Medium blog soon).
Like you said, some books actually say nothing new unfortunately, but can be good reminders or motivators nonetheless. Here's my top 4 must-read books list in this order:
1- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (build your character)
2- How to Win Friends and Influence People (build your personality)
3- Mastery (vocational success)
4- Rich Dad Poor Dad (financial success)
These 3 books are kind of "honorable mentions":
The Five Love Languages, The Power of Habit, and Nineteen Eighty-Four
The first 4 are one of the bests I have ever read. Literally life changing.

Recently I really enjoyed the books Deep work by Cal Newport and The Willpower Instinct. These two are really cool to improve your focus and understand how your brain works a lot better, and therefore be able to organize your time and activities better.

Why did you choose the last two books over something like The 7 Habits though? I haven't read the last two yet, but they seem to focus on a particular philosophy or point of view (i.e. stoicism or meditation), whereas a book like The 7 Habits (or How to Win Friends for that matter) is overarching - talks in terms of everlasting principles and ideas applicable to everyone regardless of their philosophical views and practices.

I tried to suggest 1 book for each aspect of our life, so that if for some reason u will read only 5 books in your life, then be it these five. How to win friends and... is a great book but the best book on social intelligence is 48 laws of power. Not only that its way much more deeper but also no one can be compared to Robert Greene's style of writing.
The last 2 books are some of the best I have ever read. No matter what philosophy you follow, the value of your time and life remains the same. Most of us spend time worrying, complaining and every other useless thing, and these 2 books will completely shift your mentality towards the value of your life where you will literally stop wasting your time on every other unnecessarily thing.
Starts at 1:48. Save your time.

Yep but how about How to win friends and influence people and how to stop worrying and start living both of those books are from Dale Carnagie,Secrets of the millionaire mind and I would also advise you a book to learn how to read people's body language as well as a book focused on communication and how to meet and interact women...I just don't know what the best books for those 2 things are
the books u mentioned are extremely important but the mentioned book summarize all that. For instance, how to win friends and... and all other communication book can be summarized under 48 laws of power. Thats i think, 48 laws of power is enough to master your social skills.

One can not simply read 5 books and be finished.
Ideally, one should read good books constantly throughout one’s life.
It is a wonderfully enriching and essential pastime.
Novels, biographies, monographs on whatever - it’s about continual adventure and growth.
Reading only 5 books would be like visiting a sumptuous smorgasbord and having a sip of water.
