I just wanted to say, in part 1, you took a break to say that you aren't a pro and that this blog is about your journey as you learn etc. Wanted to let you know that I hope you are easier on yourself as you go because your work looks beautiful to me. Technically perfect? Who cares. I love that the door curves at the wind brace or whatever it was. I don't think people even realize the skill required to set up these great shots, choose wonderful music, edit and post all this whole building something for the first time from scratch. I dunno. Seems pretty badass to me. Your family is lovely and I look forward to watching. As someone with some sensory issues, I'll just mention that I have to turn up your talking parts to hear you well and then turn down the volume when the music comes on(really liking your choices there, by the by). I've just watched 3 videos in a row, so it stood out to me. Thanks for sharing and thank you for making your videos so pleasant and calm to watch. Absolutely delightful.
Thanks so much. Definitely will take on board the volume levels. I really appreciate the kind words and I will get on the link tree now. I actually can’t believe that video got so many views

Hello Bruce & family. Love the videos. Not read through all the comments, if someone has pointed this out already, just a note on the outdoor loo! If you’re composting with sawdust/moss then separating the wee many not be a big issue. I only say this as having no flush (so no pee trap) the pipe will smell, a lot. If you’ve ever cleared a blockage in a urinal you’ll understand. Plus as there is no pee trap I’d advise a mesh over the end of the pipe or uninvited guests (insects, mice, etc) will be travelling up the pipe to say, Hi! Think the building is brilliant, looks really good in the setting. Do you plan to use the compost? Not sure on the rules in Ireland on human waste compost. Once left long enough, it is perfect for fruit trees and tomatoes. Thank you for all the work that goes into these videos.
Hi Richard. Thanks for the info and kind words. Currently I am composing it and monitoring the temperatures to make sure I reach thermophilic temperatures. So far I have hit about mid 45C so would like it to get a bit hotter before I would want to use it on anything we eat. I think as I gain in mass the temps will improve. My compost bays are approx 1m2 so I think I’ll get there. I do have a strainer and to be honest her main reason I went for a separator was so I didn’t need to empty so often when we have people to stay etc. All that being said I think I would build it differently now with the experience gained from this build.
Great job on the outhouse. Urine is an excellent fertilizer/compost booster, it would be a shame to not utilize that resource. Love watching your family's journey.
great job , my buddy has a stick with a flag that folds down when his loo is in use so you can tell from a distance if someone is in there. also catchs rain off the roof to wash hands
That was wonderful! I love your composting out house...It looks really great. It makes me want to have one in my yard... Inspiring what you can make from whats around the property. Also, the weather looks wonderful. Will it get very cold in the wintertime?
Looks really good, top job. 💪 Do you have any plans for a Q & A video in the future, really interested in doing exactly what your doing and taking the plunge to Ireland, but would be good to here you pros and cons after some time of living there 🙂 especially the purchasing of property, the process and how life differs to the UK
I haven’t actually thought about that. I guess I could give my perspective on that. Never thought I had enough subs to have enough questions for a Q&A. My advice would be come and explore and see how you feel. I have loved Ireland since the first day a set foot here over 10 years ago (although always thought moving here was a pipe dream until now) You have given me some food for thought anyway. Thanks for the kind words
