    Split Enz the first New Zealand rockers deserve to be inducted in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame

    • @Shikta-poobah67
      @Shikta-poobah67 Год назад

      I know that for many people, getting inducted into the R&RHoF is like this big honor, or status kind of thing, but personally I think that institution is a bad joke, and shouldn’t even exist. There are many others who share my opinion. I actually know a couple of inductees, and they were treated like shit at their induction. What that place really is in reality is nothing more than a money machine that allows music industry scumbags the opportunity to jerk off each other’s egos, while charging $10K a seat for admission, even for family and friends of the bands being inducted.
      Personally I think rock and roll doesn’t need a “hall of fame”. It’s music for the people, and always has been. I mean who exactly gets to decide which bands are “worthy” and which ones aren’t? Oh that’s right… sociopathic, soulless industry chicken hawks, that’s who. Besides, a large percentage of inductees aren’t even rock and roll. Pop divas, rappers, and what have you… while actual longtime rock and roll pioneers are largely ignored. It’s all a big farce.
      Anyway, that’s the end of my rant. Carry on.

    They all screamed for Neil (the younger brother) as he was the lead singer for their biggest hit "I Got You". Neil would later go onto to form Crowded House who had big hits in the USA with "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong". Tim would join Crowded House in 1991 and help sing/write hits with Neil (in the UK) with "Weather With You" and "It's Only Natural".

      I never understood why the radio wouldn’t give them the time of day back then, aside from the occasional and infrequent airing of “I Got You” and “History Never Repeats”. Early MTV was promoting their videos like crazy, but that was a few years before MTV had any pull with FM radio. Yes, so many other great songs that should have been charting hits here in the states. Oh well, at least the Finn brothers finally got some recognition here with Crowded House later on.

    The description is a bit misleading when it says that rock music is not big in New Zealand. They actually meant that because of the small population, your audience is limited.

    • @Shikta-poobah67
      @Shikta-poobah67 Год назад

      I think they also meant that the industry (at least back then) was too small and secluded in NZ to give them the international exposure and promotion that they wanted. In other words, you can either be a big fish in a little pond, or you can go swim in the big ocean with the big fish and have bigger opportunities. It’s probably different today (in NZ), but in the 70’s and early 80’s there just wasn’t much of an industry there.

Quite the opposite actually, but as a career musician (especially in the 70’s and 80’s) it was such a tiny music industry market, and it was extremely frustrating and defeating trying to make things happen for your band. That’s why they left early on for Australia and then the UK. You go where the opportunities are. The Maori realised they were going to be wiped out by the superior English weapons, so they decided to agreed to a treaty of working together. If anything, the warrior race of Maori correctly understood they had already lost the battle and choose to live in peace.
