    As a grizzled veteran in broadcast TV videography for many decades, I appreciate your comments about this compulsive obsession by people on how much or little video capabilities a still photography camera has. Especially medium format. At today's rate of changing technology you can get a 4K video camera with more features than a still camera for under a grand, if you look around. Currently as a contract videographer and video journalist I'm into this concept for clients, producers, directors, where I use a still camera for photography and video cameras for motion production. It's what they want and everybody's happy. I much rather see all that wasted human and financial resources that goes into developing video for still cameras go into improving still image technology, as it is meant for.

    Still enjoying my gfx50r immensely. I’d be interested in a potential gfx100r if released in 2023, less for the resolution but tempting if it included ois. Also love it when they release a new gfx camera as there is usually a lens deal- so thank you gfx100s ( and thank you too Mr. W).

    Looks like an extremely easy to carry medium format camera to have. The price is right too. I haven't had a medium format camera in over 20 years. It sure has come a long way. I would buy one of these before I would buy a Nikon D5. I often wonder what Ansel Adams would do with today's cameras. FujiFilm seems to be killing it. I guess you like the 50R better than the 50S?

    You are too kind to other reviewers sir. The vast majority of coverage on the GFX, or Fujifilm in general, don't have a clue about what makes Fujifilm cameras special. I shoot commercial and advertising with two X-Pro 2's and three primes and would love to get into the GFX system at some point with the same setup I have with my X-Pros. Thank you for your efforts and for keeping it real.

    Your dealing with a generation that grew up with cell phones. A little box that does a 100 things. Most have never seen an 8x10 contact print. They have no idea of the beauty of medium format images if one understands the parameters of the camera. Like to see you post some of your images with the GFX 50R. Used to work in a professional lab thirty years ago. I miss those image that only medium and large format can make.

    I am actually saving for this to be part of my business. I put a portion of my income into a gear fund. Most of it goes towards lighting bc that improves my work WAY more than updating bodies or lenses. I’ve wanted MF for a long time but couldn’t justify the price. I believe this system is actually a smart investment for my business. $4500 is so crazy cheap compared to the systems I’ve considered in the past. Sooo I’m having to buy 2 new strobes then I’m starting on this system.

    I also watched you D850 vs GFX50S video, which is a few years old now and wondered what your recommendations are in Nov 2020? Specifically should I stick with what I have (D850, 14mm Sigma, N16-35, N19mm PCE and N24 1.4 or upgrade to the GFX50R?

    Hi! Thanks a lot for your straightforward reviews and comments. As a physicist I find refreshing your channel free from comercial BS. I really like this camera and I would like to know if my old manual medium format lenses would be good enough for this sensor. I have several Bronica ETRS 645 manual lenses. If they can work I certainly be incline to make the inversion in this system. I do not need AF in the photography I like to shoot. I have seen the adaptors from Bronica to GFX but not sure if this lenses will squeeze the capabilities of this sensor. Thanks in advance. :)

    1. What advantages will I get from 50s comparing to 50r for extra $2k if I do not care of tilt viewfinder?
    2. How accurate focus peaking woks for manual focus lenses?
    3. I did not get about battery. How many pictures you were able to get from one battery?

    What are your thoughts on the 50R now in the GFX100S era?

  • @davidecapri
    @davidecapri 3 года назад

    Hi, thanks for all your videos, very insightful. I have a question, I own a 5d mkIV and a bunch of primes. Regardless of the resolution (it's not one of the things I care much about), adapting full frame lenses on the GFX will deliver better quality in terms of micro contrast (since the final image is less magnified) and perceived "3D pop"? Will still have that medium format look? I can afford a GFXr but not yet a couple of Fuji primes so I'm going to adapt what I have (Canon EF and Pentax K primes) for the moment. If getting a GFX would give me the only benefits of resolution and less dof it's not what I'm looking for, I need a better image that has a wider range of nuances in the midtones. I want to offer to my clients (and to me) a better image quality, less clinical/boring compared to the modern CaNikon primes+FF cameras, something that has character and lots of microcontrast and genuine colors without going crazy with post processing.
    One last question: is manual focus comfortable without the necessity of magnifying the viewfinder every shoot you take?
    Thank you.

  • @stefanoallari2154
    @stefanoallari2154 4 года назад +1

    I totally agree on the superiority of medium format over full frame. Huge. However to call the GFX50 medium format is a bit of a stretch. The area size of a full frame sensor is 60% of the GFX, not that far away. To make a comparison, APS size is 42% of full frame, and 135mm film is a mere 22% of a 6x7. That said, the GXF50R is certainly a fantastic camera, definitely affordable and quite lightweight, too...

I’m thinking of moving up from my old Nikon D300’s and D5200 and up to current or recent full frame Nikon (saw your scathing videos of recent Nikon cameras) or full frame Sony. Mostly for using vintage 35mm lenses or art lenses from Lensbaby, Lomography and older Helios lenses etc. meaning not sports, fast, paid work.. for me. Get the most out of petzval type lens and crop if necessary due to vignette... or let it stay in with maximum swirl. Or is my thinking totally wrong? Thank you for posting.

    After rumors of rangefinder-style medium format from Fuji, I was hyped. But after release... Let's be honest, in comparison to Hasselblad it looks like a brick. IQ isn't that different from FF, this sensor is the smallest one used in medium format, FF is 60% of its size and if you prefer 3/2 crop (I do) difference is even smaller. In compare, APSC is 40% of FF. So pass from me :/ (still very good camera :), I just wished for more from Fuji.

    Hey Ken, great video. I can get the gfx 50r + 45mm 2.8 for 5850$ in Germany. Good deal?

  • @gbalfi
    @gbalfi 5 лет назад +1

    Ken, if cash flow dictates initially buying the GFXR body and 1 lens (for a time) would you go for the 32-64 or the 45?

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  5 лет назад +2

      geeeeeez thats a toughie :/ both are aweeeeesome, the 45 will make it a lightweight package, but the zoom makes it bit more useful..........the agony of trade offs, if it was me, honestly the 45mm

    Why does my 35mm f2 crop when focused on a closer subject ? Every time I focus on a close subject the lens seem to zoom in and crop the photo

    Ken,it seem whenever you upload more than 2-3 videos in a day, youtube is not sending notification via Gmail. From all your GFXR videos, I got only one Gmail notification. I have to go to your youtube channel to watch the rest. This happened before.

    dude, it´s not 2k $ cheaper than a comparable dslr. the 1dx and d5 are not comprabale cameras, they are made for speed and durability. It´s more like 1000$ above a comparable ff-camera like the a7rIII, d850 and 5dsr. and the image quality difference you get is negligable.

    No mention of image stabilization. Could be a deal breaker. No mention of lens prices or options. No mention of dynamic range. So we get it, great images umder perfect conditions. But, at this price point it's an invitation to use it as a walk around camera. As such, we need to know the performance in less than ideal conditions. Incomplete review.

  • @rolandrick

    The X1D has infinite long 8 sec startup time, how much is it on the GFX’s? Similar fast as X-Pro2, T2, -T3? Solely advantage X1D to me: leaf shutter in lens = 1/2000 flash sync. Camera price is extremely reduced, but lenses are expensive

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  5 лет назад +5

      DISADVANTAGE, leaf shutter cameras have NO shutter, hence all adapted lenses CANT do flash photog, just crap electronic shutter.
      BOOOOOOM !

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis

      google "X1D nasty bokeh" all their lenses have trash geometric bokeh problems,

    • @rolandrick
      @rolandrick 5 лет назад

      Theoria Apophasis lens adaptation is no item to me. But the bokeh problem non of the X1D pushing channels are mentioning 🤦‍♂️😱 (what else). Do you have some raw downloads made with 110 and 45? With the 23 (landscape) and 120 (portrait) I could do a lot of test shots myself on a Fujifilm Switzerland event with the GFX50s
