Cheers! Turbots are real assets of danish spearfishing - and one of the few areas where I guess we are better off than you guys in the UK, with all your bass, mullet and pollack…
@@Kakkijonnes absolutely! That turbot would be a fish of a lifetime for a spearo in the UK! I’ve just come back from a 3 day trip, not a lot of pollack around but lots of bass and loads of huge mullet - I’ve got a mountain of them to fillet this afternoon!
@@BR0SE1DON really? Think you must have them bigger out there in the atlantic! Is it uncommon to target them spearfishing in the UK? The biggest fish I have heard about from commercial fishers in inner Danish waters is 12-13 kg, but the spearfishing record is around 6-7 kg. If you go for turbot spearfishing here you will run into fish around 3-4 kg. now and again. Got 2 in that span the last 3 years. Yeah saw your video - what a trip!!! Beautiful dive conditons. Looking forward to see the next one from you:)
@@Kakkijonnes To be honest, we don't see that many flatfish in the UK, they are around but normally very small, I haven't seen a shootable sized one in years. Large turbot are extremely rare here, I don't know of anyone who's ever shot one. They are caught but only deep at sea over big sandbanks, far offshore. That being said, I have seen baby ones, the size of the palm of my hand, but that's only on one beach where for some unknown reason the come in in September. I'd love to find a big one but very much doubt I ever will. Anyway, I'm glad you're able to find some nice ones, lucky you! Interestingly, the turbot we get in the UK are quite different to the one you caught, they're less round, very pale and sandy coloured, the one you shot was very dark, I'd suspect they're a slightly different species / sub-species? I'm really glad you liked the video, thank you, it was a good trip, I'm hopefully going to go again next week as long as I can get some work project completed! :)
@BROSEIDON That's interesting - it may be that their behavior is fundamentally different on each side of the North Sea... Here we find them in very shallow water (up to a depth of less than 1 meter) especially in the spawning period around May. I find most of my turbot in 1-4 feet of water and rarely deeper. Have not heard of different subspecies, but of course we also have brill that is less round. The colors vary underwater due to camouflage, but they tend to get dark when on land. Enjoy your upcoming trip - I look forward to seeing the resulting footage :)
Thanks Maciek! A bit colder than your home waters:) Unfortunately danish waters are almost only that clear when beneath maybe 10 degrees. Right now its 2-3 degrees and the cod season opens in 2 weeks. And you cannot miss that🥶
Hvilken dybde finder du dem i august-oktober?
I fish with rod and reel as well ("angeln") and honestly your remark could not be further from the truth. Cod are for most of the year found in deep water - maybe 10-40 meters in Øresund. Do you thing it is easier freediving (that means no tank) to those depths in cold water in areas with bad visibility or to sit in your boat drinking beer and jerking a rod up and down? In my own experience you catch around 10 times more cod when rod-fishing compared to spearfishing. The low fish stocks in the inner danish straits and the Baltics are mostly due to nutrion-polution, trawlfishing and climate change, as I understand the science. The impact from spearfishing in that area is almost not existing. Rod and reel fishing has a larger impact, as it is more widespread and more effective when it comes to cod, for the reasons above.
God video ! mange tak!
Tak.
