Take care that that the primaries do not grow out. One loud car horn or a n unexpected door slam outside and you are in real trouble. Particularly if there is any wind. You can get harnesses but persuading a bird set in its ways to accept one may be impossible.
Cockatoos and parrots are Gregarious and need company. This bird is lucky to have a loving home. His future needs to be considered because they can live a very long time. Perhaps his first owner got to frail to care for her himself.

I adopted an older bird. His owner died, & nobody wanted him, because he was old & cranky. He brought a lot of joy to my life, & I'm glad that he was able to finish out his life in a home he felt comfortable in.

Large Parrots like Macaws and Cockatoos live for a loooooong time.
My great grandmother had a Macaw, who was passed to my grandmother when she died and now my uncle has him after my grandmother died.
She's a beautiful soul! So glad she adopted you two!!!
I imagine the only way you could part with something so adorable is if your health is failing or some circumstances beyond the person's control. GOD BLESS

I used to get attacked mercilessly by magpies when I was young so I struggled to like birds much. Until I saw a magpie obviously heartbroken over its mate who had been hit by a car. They were so lost, nudging their buddy & staying close. Now I watch loads of chirpy videos & am amazed at what special, funny & loving creatures they are

nah you gotta consider what a person goes through in life, what if they had to move out of state different country, family, money. Theres always others reasons then not loving. There was no story about the bird being in bad shape parrots tear out feathers when living a crappy life. Seems like he or she was in good shape. You never know, you really never know without the backstory.

Popeye is a very lucky girl. Her new parents love her for who she is and she has a new “mate” who clearly lets her love on him. The part where he was still in bed and she was snuggled with him under the covers was precious.

@@daniellewatson8352 nope. rubbish to you. birds do NOT belong in cages. don't want to hear i don't know what i'm talking about either. as i had parrots for 24 years including an Umbrella & Molluccan cockatoo. and also 10 years volunteering at 2 parrot rescues including one of the largest in the US. but any improvement in a parrots life is a plus.
@@RKZX2 I had a bird (cockatiel) from childhood, and I agree with you. After seeing him pass away, I would not buy another bird into the cage, nor buy it to children.
But I have same opinion about dogs. The only pets are respect, the people should have, are fishes and plants.
It's too desperate, to steal animals from nature, because you need a little hug, because your life is sad. We do not have right to steal animals and ensnare them in our ill relationship fall. They get cancer and degenerative disease from it, that they don't have in nature.
Also, by buying a bird, you are supporting bad bussiness, that steals them from nature, taking their freedoms.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they were getting old and less able to take good care of Popeye.
@@patsylvest Often that is it. They go into a nursing home and none of the family want the pet usually because they already have pets. One situation I heard of the daughter had cats and the dog of her mother did not get along with them. Fortunately, for them, a cousin took the dog. If the pet is surrendered that is better for them be rehomed than put down. Many people do that

Always remember that you don't know the full story. The bird was in good shape, and had a great character. Clearly it was raised by a loving owner I'd dare say. A lot can happen in a person't life.

She loves the sound of his heart.
What a lucky bird. She is so loved and thriving. It seems sad that his previous owner gave her up, but she now has a wonderful life.
She doesn't look like a bird that wasn't cared for because she doesn't have the signs of a stressed bird that has plucked out a lot of feathers. Overall your bird looks like she has landed in a great place and you both have added to each other's lives.

Both my Quaker & my Blue-Crown Conure were neglected rescues.
They both (6 yrs apart) learned trust and became incredibly affectionate.
Cockatoos are generally snuggly birds and he is obviously quite happy & secure. He wasn't mistreated.

I was wondering the same thing. But then my wife said maybe the person's health was declining And had to part with the bird. That wasn't amazing video.
This person cared for it for 14 years, that's way more effort than typing a sentence. Have you ever cared for a cockatoo?
It's a miracle she didn't pluck out all her feathers from depression and anxiety after being thrown away.

@Deezcutz2022 so true, i had 2 galahs in my life and the require so much attention, mental stimulation and to be 100% part of the family, a huge commitment and if you cant provide it they need a home that can
IF her previous owner has had to get RID of Popeye - could be for one of several reasons
1 Owner had to go into Care
2 Moved somewhere that DOESN'T allow ANY FORM of Pet
3 Hospital
I. Myself Had a pair of Umbrella Cockatoos that were almost like Popeye in their Loving Ways. FORCED to GET rid of them - due to WRONG DIAGNOSIS by Hospital Specialist (He claimed I had Psittacosis< Parrot Fever) when I mentioned what had Happened [ to a Parrot - Breeder HE replied °°You WOULDN'T be Able to come IN HERE - if you'd had THAT CONDITION !! ]
Having to Get Rid of them - was Literally HEARTBREAKING & Almost 30 Years AFTERWARDS I STILL MISS THEM !!

Parrots LOVE metal. My 2 loved black metal. Louder the better. Birds regrow ear hairs, so their ears don't technically suffer damage, and loud music may possibly simulate the 'acoustic bath' feeling they get when in a large flock ❤🐦
