After sitting a while, try putting a soda pop cap full of fuel in the carb before starting it. You might want to use the carb's choke plate too. Hope this helps. Good luck!
A wonderful project. It's great to see you two spreading your wings into vintage racing...Wonderful! Fly like the wind! Thanks for sharing your projects.
When it starts you have to move your hand over a little bit and keep it about 3/4 if the way choked. He needs a manuel choke on it. He's probably fouled the plugs by now. They've definely have it flooded good now. Chad needs to take a course on engines. Smart as he is he could learn a lot of stuff quickly. I got a feeling they going to be on the side of the road a lot. I hope the race track is close.
Chad it’s painful watching you start your cars I wish you would spend more time tuning up and fixing up your engines I know Jolene would be happy to have a great running rig Jesus it’s not that hard
The reason the ford is hard to start when cold is that it needs a circuit to bypass the ballast resistor when you are cranking the engine. That will give a stronger spark until the engine starts.
OLD School Steve - That won’t work because they put the ballast resistor between the points wire and the coil and not between the 12V+ feed and the coil. So the 12V+ side of the coil has full 12V all the time. This was mentioned by several people when they were doing the 12V conversion and this is exactly way it was wrong to put the ballast resistor where they did.😊
Well things are coming together for you your car or your shop your truck. I said before but it's fantastic see things coming together for honest ordinary people. That's intended to be a compliment not to be taking any other way. Three car questions. First one are you going to do any fireproofing to protect Jolene or anybody else is driving the car? Second one is there a shield going to be in place in case the clutch scrambles are a loop contain the drive shaft? Third question is how about a manual choke until then have something on a stick. What I mean is that with a serious backfire through the carburetor that could sting a little bit on somebody's hand. I know the odds of that happening is actually. Only takes one time. Something on a stick I thick piece of plywood and if you really want a tight seal double layer it with a hole in the first layer. This little tidbit brought to you by my grandfather he's been gone a few decades now. He used to make the shine run to shine use it for antifreeze and sometime burn it for gas. Little bit of old school for choking the carburetor a little more safely on initial fire up before his boys would go out and race. You got yourself a great woman there covering the carburetor with her hand. Heck my mom only put a foot through the carburetor haha. She had a platinum foot much more heavier than dense than lead foots. Whether you go something attempting to be helpful I'm getting a bag of my mom. The day gotten better hasn't it?
I assume there is no kind of pre race scrutineering for these cars? It’s just an accident waiting to happen: the firewall that isn’t, that fuel tank, the cracked windshield - and goodness knows what else? Not any kind of racing that I’ve ever been involved in - my god!
I agree with other people. Put a V8 Flat head in it . I've worked on race teams my whole life. If the truck Is going to be the actual transport for the "race car". Going to the "race".. with no tools..the truck needs a tool box area..on the back of the cab area? No matter the racing.. you need tools.. and at least the basics in spare parts. But they certainly need to be a LOT more prepared than their first race. I was kinda surprised how unprepared the video showed?? BTW .. the truck looks awesome and the car does too. My Dad raced similar cars in the 60s. His car was painted with a brush also. Car looks period correct.. but I think it would be more fun with a 8 flat head.
Chad you should see about Princes Auto to be a sponcer since you always mention them. By the rules could you replace the points with an electronic conversion? Then you will not have to worry about anything wearing out. What you said was something looks like it's melting under the points, that should be grease which lubricates the robbing block against the points cam lobe. If you ugrade to a pointless ignition, you will not have to worry about any voltage drop to the coil when you start the car. It's more reliable. Check the compression and give it a goodbtune up on that motor over winter so it runs better next year. BTW, That new building is huge, you will never regret it that big.
Generally speaking: when the engine is trying to fire like today but it won't quite catch that's a fuel issue. If it makes no attempt to fire and maybe floods then it's an ignition issue. Listen to your engines. They talk to you. They'll tell you what they want or need. Trying to fire but won't catch - fuel issue. Not firing at all, not trying - ignition. When you get to the 90's and newer with electronic garbage then all the rules go out the window and I'm lost. I know pre smog, pre electronics. After that I'm lost. It's why all my stuff is old. I can service that. After electronics, not so much. Good luck with everything.
Now all the lettering and sponsors go back on the car and now the truck. When all done it's going to be a winner combination ! Thumbs-up Jolene and Chad 👍 great job on both ,! 👏
You need to get your vehicle's serviced, new plugs, points, condensers, oil and filters. Also rig up a choke system. Your starters are not going to last long. Looking good though.
Hello Chad & Jolene. I hope that you both have a great day today. The truck and car both look very nice. I cant wait to watch you both go racing next year.
Very Cool combo truck / car ! I just really hope the Firewall in the car is Never actually Needed as a Firewall , that is A Lot of holes there . Be Well , stay safe having fun .
Chad, do yourself a big favor, and get rid of that points & condenser on those flat heads, and get electronic ignition, all of it is under the distributor, and you will have more power and fast starts, and simple to instal.
The truck looks great! I really like your choice of wheels and tyres for it too. Glad you are giving the race car some more attention too. With the truck looking this good, it only seems right to try to get the car to a similar standard. Thanks as always for sharing your projects with us!
Chad, you'd be in some kinda trouble with your sweetheart if it backfired on Jolene's hand. Just close the choke plate, it's right there, just close it and eventually put a cable on it.
Chad if tiu want it to run right, put in a "pertronix" electronic distributor. You can prob retrofit your existing distributor, I'm sure they have a kit that would work. No more points!!! Looks original.
A carburetor motor needs choked and gas pumped when it’s cold. Remember to pump it while turning it over as the mechanical fuel pump has to spin to move fuel.
Hey Bad Chad! The Car Hauler is looking Good! I hope you have your buddy tune the car up and switch over the points and a manual choke setup on it would be a plus too!😉 I hope you guys put some blue up on the radiator area sides would look nice and Black up on the gas tank and frame and wheels to tie in the whole frame! love the content and two together is going to be awesome can't wait to see them loaded!😉👍📹✔️💯👋👋👋👋
Don't know the laws in Canada, but here in the US, if I were to drive that down the road without tags and insurance I would be in big trouble. More power to you, you have guts. Hope you don't get caught. I know of someone in europe who got busted for posting his similar activity an youtube. Other than that, you guys are doing a fantastic job! Good luck!
I wish they would hire a mechanic to set up new builds and keep the old fleet in running shape. There is plenty to keep a full time mechanic busy and Chad could concentrate on fabricating. Although they would have to find a way to pay a decent salary I think they could do it with more merch. sales, some of that wild Ed Roth style "car"toon art of builds on t-shirts would sell great.
Hi Chad and Jolene, the race car looks good. Chad you really need to make a solid fire wall between cab and engine. If for some reason "God forbid" you break a fuel line or start a fire while she is racing the flames will go right into the cab. It will be tragic ! Please fix, I've seen it happen.
I built a race car back in the day. Had a lot of fun Made the mistake of not having a good Firewsll. A fuel line fractured. I got covered in fuel. I was very lucky that it did not backfure and light me up. PLEASE FIX THAT FIREWALL. LOVE THE CAR
Hooray you got it started. Tell me why is there no coil lead to the distributor which is fixed to the engine? Am I missing something 🤔. Looking forward to the paint job...
Yeah and no coil wire even plugged into the coil, right in front of him. Why Didn't he check for spark before even looking at the distributor? And then how the heck did it start and run? Somebody playing games"
Firewall ---- PLEASE fit Jolene's race car with a fireproof firewall..........
And floor 🙏
@@jimcollins3411 Indeed. Chad should know better. I don't want to see Nova Scotia Fried Jolene.
@@jimcollins3411 Or if they lost a radiator hose and they got a face full of hot water, or even worse anti-freeze....
Lol!
Put the flathead V-8 from the truck into the car. Find a trans that will work with it. And put a reliable engine & trans into the truck.
Yep like a dodge diesel ! And that 85 hp ford would be a blast !
Show Jolene how to just hold that top butterfly shut while you crank!
those ramps are what i got for lawn tractors
Hope Chad and Jolene put the car on the hauler soon. Can’t wait to see the combination.
imkkkk
me too
After sitting a while, try putting a soda pop cap full of fuel in the carb before starting it. You might want to use the carb's choke plate too. Hope this helps. Good luck!
yep,it def helps keep the battery up.
A wonderful project. It's great to see you two spreading your wings into vintage racing...Wonderful! Fly like the wind! Thanks for sharing your projects.

Amen brother
The reason the ford is hard to start when cold is that it needs a circuit to bypass the ballast resistor when you are cranking the engine. That will give a stronger spark until the engine starts.
Think the same. It's just not getting the kick it needs.
Same with the car
Just run a wire from the small output terminal on the starter solenoid to the positive terminal of the ignition coil. DONE!
OLD School Steve - That won’t work because they put the ballast resistor between the points wire and the coil and not between the 12V+ feed and the coil. So the 12V+ side of the coil has full 12V all the time. This was mentioned by several people when they were doing the 12V conversion and this is exactly way it was wrong to put the ballast resistor where they did.😊
I missed that! Went back and reviewed. You are correct. WTF! I never heard of such a thing. No wonder it’s hard to start. Totally wired incorrectly!

What a hoot, Chad telling Jolene how rough it rides 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chad you might want to think about adding a manual choke, Jolene was afraid of keeping her hand on the carb.
@Mike Raffphone Your comment is disgusting and this is not the place for the kind of talk. Plenty of other shit sites you can talk like that on
Rightfully so
You should put a manual choke on it, Then Jolene won't have to use her hand anymore. Cheap to buy and easy to put on. That truck looks awesome!
Manual choke and a good tune up.
Chad, your gonna have to spend some money on that motor getting it running better.
like a choke cable ?
More than a choke cable
Demolition derby
I assume there is no kind of pre race scrutineering for these cars? It’s just an accident waiting to happen: the firewall that isn’t, that fuel tank, the cracked windshield - and goodness knows what else? Not any kind of racing that I’ve ever been involved in - my god!
you have alot going on..but getting that race car running proper for Jo is number one in my book...she earned it...
I believe it just needs a good tune up to get it running right. Chad and Jolene are awesome.
A new set of points might do it along with a cap and rotor oh and a new radio.
And gas that had Sta-Bil in it
I agree with other people. Put a V8 Flat head in it .

You may want to consider putting in solid floors and fire wall

The new shop is looking amazing so far, happy to see what you have accomplished!
Might run exhaust out the back to not C02 gasses to keep safe
A can of starter spray may be handy to have.
Ether will make it fire!!
Cant wait to see it finished and being winched up on the hauler
You need to get your vehicle's serviced, new plugs, points, condensers, oil and filters. Also rig up a choke system. Your starters are not going to last long. Looking good though.
Love it! Thanks for sharing!
Funny to hear someone talking about points... Love it.
Beautiful town ! Love the fall back east ! Nova Scotia 🎉
Keep up the hard work you two
The new workshop is looking good. 👌
Hello Chad & Jolene. I hope that you both have a great day today. The truck and car both look very nice. I cant wait to watch you both go racing next year.
DOUBLE CLUTCHING FOR THE WIN
Very Cool combo truck / car ! I just really hope the Firewall in the car is Never actually Needed as a Firewall , that is A Lot of holes there . Be Well , stay safe having fun .
Everything looks good thanks for sharing
if you sprayed starter fluid in carb (panther piss)and it starts then you know its fuel issue
😁😁 I haven't heard anyone refer to that as panther piss, since the 1990s.
That's what my late grandpa used to call it.😎😎
i am great grandpa +
Surely some springs on the rear axle would be a good idea. ??
Chad, do yourself a big favor, and get rid of that points & condenser on those flat heads, and get electronic ignition, all of it is under the distributor, and you will have more power and fast starts, and simple to instal.
That firewall looks like a fire grill. Not being mean but if you have a fire it may not be much protection.
Put your coil wire on !
The truck looks great! I really like your choice of wheels and tyres for it too. Glad you are giving the race car some more attention too. With the truck looking this good, it only seems right to try to get the car to a similar standard. Thanks as always for sharing your projects with us!
Patiently awaiting the loading on the truck
Front wheel chock and d-ring tie down combo would be the setup. This is a cool racing hauler and will be complete with the race car on back.
looks great and they will be amazing together! shop is coming along nicely. Need to strap the car from the rear as well.
Maybe send the car to one of your good friends to give it a tune-up and put a manual choke in it make it race ready for ya
And yes I know it's race ready but it could use the tune up
I guess I should have waited to the show was over to open my big mouth
That looks nice old school rigs.
You can use a dwell meter to be precise.
You should pull that engine out and put a flathead eight in.
Chad, you'd be in some kinda trouble with your sweetheart if it backfired on Jolene's hand. Just close the choke plate, it's right there, just close it and eventually put a cable on it.
not to many ladies would do what’s jolene does 💪
Maybe Jolene can convince Chad to put some kind of suspension in the rear. ;)
Glad you made it she’s a rough runner
Ladies and Gentlemen...START YOUR ENGINES!
Chad if tiu want it to run right, put in a "pertronix" electronic distributor. You can prob retrofit your existing distributor, I'm sure they have a kit that would work. No more points!!! Looks original.
Change it over to electronic ignition.
Really happy to find you on RUclips. Missing you on your TV Show.
Wish I had that motor in my shop! Could do a lot to it when rebuilding it!!!
Love what you have done with the truck .
Truck looks so old school love it
Thats gonna be one big man shed that chad is getting built.
just have fun!😁
A carburetor motor needs choked and gas pumped when it’s cold. Remember to pump it while turning it over as the mechanical fuel pump has to spin to move fuel.
STARTING FLUID
Lots of work coming up for you both. Loving the content of all your videos Chad and Jolene.
that building is amazing 😍
nice touch with the added microphone on ya chad 🤗👍
Welcome back to Nova Scotia!
Looks Great! Will be good to see the car on the Hauler!
As a mechanic Chad, that wreck sounds awful, just dive to a very deep lake, or check the flywheel ring and starter gear
maybe smart to add a another start button on the outside of the car for starting when pumping the carb racing start button
Hey Bad Chad! The Car Hauler is looking Good! I hope you have your buddy tune the car up and switch over the points and a manual choke setup on it would be a plus too!😉
I hope you guys put some blue up on the radiator area sides would look nice and Black up on the gas tank and frame and wheels to tie in the whole frame! love the content and two together is going to be awesome can't wait to see them loaded!😉👍📹✔️💯👋👋👋👋
From the house in Canning to the shop. This will be interesting to watch. Go for it Chad and Jolene
Very Nice Paint looks nice Chad what size is the Building that looks Awesome
You guys need to sell the semi truck because if it sits very long it won’t be nothing but a headache
That new building is the shit! It’s bad ass!
get the proper stuff and tune it up with new plugs, distributer cap, plug wires, set the timing, etc., etc.
If the accelerator pump in the carb is not working that can cause a stumble when accelerating.
Can't wait to see them together
The truck look s exactly like the fifty’s great job
Don't know the laws in Canada, but here in the US, if I were to drive that down the road without tags and insurance I would be in big trouble. More power to you, you have guts. Hope you don't get caught. I know of someone in europe who got busted for posting his similar activity an youtube. Other than that, you guys are doing a fantastic job! Good luck!
In Australia you lose your vehicle gets impounded .Unregistered or no license, burnouts excessive noise all come under hoon laws .
You should check out Vintage Modified Racing in Tacoma, Wa. There are several videos of the western Washington State cars that might interest you.
The race car looks great Chad and Jolene 👍
Loving the blue on the race car
Hold throttle to floor do not pump old cars ?
A choke cable may be in order.
Put the coil wire in the coil
Looks really good so far Chad and Jolene
that thing is a death trap
I wish they would hire a mechanic to set up new builds and keep the old fleet in running shape. There is plenty to keep a full time mechanic busy and Chad could concentrate on fabricating. Although they would have to find a way to pay a decent salary I think they could do it with more merch. sales, some of that wild Ed Roth style "car"toon art of builds on t-shirts would sell great.
Get the points you can adjust with a Allen wrench.
Hi Chad and Jolene, the race car looks good.

I built a race car back in the day.
Had a lot of fun
Made the mistake of not having a good Firewsll.
A fuel line fractured.
I got covered in fuel.
I was very lucky that it did not backfure and light me up.
PLEASE
FIX THAT FIREWALL.
LOVE THE CAR
You sure do live in a pretty area. Nice progress on the new building. Everything is lookin' good.
Poking good chad,,keep up the great work you guys, I love watching all you do,,👍👍😀
Hooray you got it started. Tell me why is there no coil lead to the distributor which is fixed to the engine? Am I missing something 🤔. Looking forward to the paint job...

Hi Chad and Jolene from Quebec
Jolene can do some serious wheelies with that thing lol
