I’ve read the title like “Some burgers are in here”, and was like - k, I’m ready to hear what Geoff says about Big Mac
I thought it would be all about sausages?🤔 Who keeps sausages in their whisky--Geoff? But he said it was just cobbled together so: load of old cobblers.😉
Redbreast 21 is about $400 in Chicagoland. Prices on Irish have gotten wildly out of control.
It's definitely worth checking out the Indian single malts from Paul John and Indri (Piccadilly) distilleries. Their use of six-row barley rather than more traditional two-row results in some really interesting tropical, over-ripe fruit flavours.
Dude, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!!! Thankful for what you do. :)
Thanks for watching, Richard. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to you! 🙏🥃
Westland makes some fantastic stuff. They are located in Seattle.
Great review Geoff!
And just FYI Oregano is near Wisconsin which is only a stone throw away from Pittsburg.
Your collection is awesome my man and I am glad to hear you are enjoying Balcones!
You really gotta try High West as a brand - especially the Campfire or Midwinter's Night Dram ( The latter is harder to find and more expensive ).
As for Irish - to me Powers is really leading the way.
I'm very tempted now to try the Myagikio.
Too many Whiskys to buy....gosh first world problems 😅
Thanks for the reviews my friend!
Cheers 🥃🥃🎩
Another excellent video, G-off. Thanks.
Gwhisky, as an influencer, influenced me to try Canadian whisky. I hurriedly semi-blindly bought some cheap JP Wiser with good looking specs from an ending auction. Turned out it is the Dissertation, a bottle with kinda cool story behind it. The problem is the JP Wiser bottle looks so very gorgeous in my shelf that I haven't had heart to open and taste it.
As for world whiskey that could surprise you positively: Teerenpeli from Finland has some very legitimate age stated stuff. The problem is they're kind of expensive compared to scotch, but very honest approach with locally grown barley from near the distillery etc. Cool stuff.
Lol yeah I do love the Wiser's bottles. I've heard about Teerenpeli. Nowhere to be found here. 🥃
I’ve had that sample pack of Macaloney’s and several other releases of theirs. All have been good. They do an excellent job with their peat and blending of casks.
Agree. I'll be exploring more from them. 🥃
@@Gwhisky Try the Searaidh Braiche, it's less than 3 years old and it's amazingly good.
Shibui 10 year is a must have for a larger collection. It used to be half the price it is now just last year but it is a banger. I must say though, you have a lot of bottles I’ve been wanting to try. I envy you sir!
Indian single malts come with a very distinctive taste and mouth feel ..
I just happened to open my second Yoichi and I I really do love it.
Macaloney's! Who knew? :D
For Japanese, I'm still partial to the Suntory stuff like Hibiki and Yamazaki over Nikka in most cases, although the Miyagikyo is very good. Very surprised a Kavalan didn't make a showing.
Hello Geoff,
In Terms of World Whisky i would recommend the
Danish Thy ( spokenTü😅) and their Bottling Bøg .
Its an organic Single Estate Single Malt Whisky slightly smoked with Beechwood. The Philosophy of the Owners is Grain to Bottle in a Longtime Familyowned Farm inside a Nature Reseve. It was the first Whisky i tried with Focus on the Grains used, not the Casks.
They bred and grew ancient Types of Barley for nearly 10 Years to get more Harvest to have enough to distill it.. Most of there Spirit is made from these Types of Grains.
Wonderfull People and really nice Whisky as well. If you have the Chance to try it you should do it. Great Graindriven Distillate.
OK enough Commercial😂.
But they really impressed me when visiting a few Weeks ago.
Thanks for another low Efford Video to share your Thoughts and Opinion about some Bottles.
Greetings from Germany 😎🤘
Some of my top world whiskies: Paul John (any release actually; I have 6 but Oloroso is my fave). Just like the other Jeff, I love Cotswolds Odyssey Barley. Blue Spot - I know it’s hard to get and can be really expensive, but it is really good. Any Teeling, especially the Brabazon Series. Btw, where are your Taiwanese bottles? At the friend’s or will they get their own episode?
Yes. Looking forward to a Taiwanese whisky post. And not just Kavalan.
Oh! Think I bought 3 bottles of that Wiser's 23 yo when we had it in Sweden a few years back. Just recently finished the last bottle and thought, affordable, good whisky at that age won't come again. Pessimistically didn't even think to check. And a few weeks later, here's a Taiwan based Canadian on RUclips telling me there's a 27 yo available in Sweden now. And he's right! And it's affordable! Excuse me while I go make an order.
The 23 yo made very good Manhattans too, besides being very sippable.
And me and three mates in sweden find the 23 un-drinkable.. 😆
I've had two different bottles from Indri, and I liked them both. The core-range Indri Trini - The Three Wood is very nice, and the cask strength Indri Drú even more so (but about twice as expensive, so there's that...). Both really worth a try!
Thanks Geoff.
Seems that it's not easy for you finding some Continental Europe bottles. As a Frenchie, I'll give you a few names I like from my country. If you have a chance...
Armorik does nice things. I like their Classic Organic, the 10 and the Yeun Elez Jobic.
The Kornog from the Celtic Whisky Distillerie is very good too.
And you should be very surprised by the EddU Broceliande.
This may be a bit out of the blue, but have you had and can you recommend the Armorik 15? I've seen it on the shelf in NL and am curious to try it as I liked the Armorik Classic's white grape notes. I'm normally more of a peat guy so getting a whole bottle with nothing to go on is a bit of a gamble.
@@0oDaan12o0 had the chance to taste the new 15 Edition 2024 very recently. Nose is very exotic, reminded me of the Glenglassaugh Sanded (pineapple, mango). Taste is very fruity, less exotic than the nose, but mango is back in the final. It's like exotic Bretagne, a buttery Kouign Aman with exotic fruit salad. I liked it.
Terrific International whiskies Geoff! I have a few from India, Sweden, Japan, obviously Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I’m also primarily a huge scotch lover - huge bias - huge peat head! Hey I nailed your mystery whisky!! 🥃
Like you I only have little Irish whiskey - Waterford and Red Breast 21!!
I’m just starting to check out rye whiskeys which I’m enjoying…I notice you didn’t showcase one - any thoughts on rye?
Have you ever tried Finnish whisky? Teerenpeli is very good distillery if you like Scotch style. Kyrö is another great one, all rye distillery.
I've been to 117 West. I have a bottle of their malted wheat whisky, which is an unusual thing to find. I have liked the ones I've tried so far from them, and I'll have to go back there and try a few more. Westland has a good line-up of whiskies that use local products, including oak and peat. The higher end bottles are a little expensive, but they have a unique character.
I'm a fan of 117 West Spirits' malted rye. Dark chocolate notes. Unlike any other rye whiskey I've tried. Will have to be on the look out for their malted wheat. Heard they expanded to a 2nd location down the street, Collab Public House
Wad up boss G.... (the second of 3 deposit WISERS 28yo 50% is here for 330 $CA : hard pass for me, teh 35yo in 2019 was 140$). ALso the Canadian CLub 18yo 58%abv (90$CA) is my go-to for Xmas + maybe teh Lot40 CS "Cherry oak" 54% (not sherry)
No currently open Kavalan bottles? Of all the world whiskies you have access to, would having a Kavalan be the most expected answer?
Perhaps this Tim guy should be bringing you some local Taiwan bottles instead?
😉
I've got sherry, bourbon, and Rum Solists on the go at my buddy's place as split bottles. 🥃
I hear Taiwan makes some nice world whiskies....you should try some! LOL
I had mackmyra green tea too. Really interesting one. I think you missing indian whiskey, but maybe they are hidden somewhere. Love to see you got cheaper bottles too. Last time I was crying that you have way too fancy bottles compared to me 😅
Fun episode. If available, explore some Indian Whiskies. Amrut has a huge range and the Indri Dru is very good. The Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is also very good. Cheers.
I've had plenty of Indian whiskies. This is just what I currently have open. Agree, Amrut and Indri can be good. Cheers! 🥃
If you can get a bottle of Bimber, would highly recommend.
I've had a few Bimbers. Excellent whiskies! 🥃
Get Mackaloney's Kildarra. It is, killar. Better than Redbreast in the Irish style
Fortunately for Geoff there is a bottle of it in the sample pack that he has. The Kildara is amazingly good. Probably time to open the bottle I currently have. Cheers!
You don’t like tire fire? I love it.
Agreed miyagikyo Nikka is a nice drop!!! Nice to see the Japanese drops!!!
P.s Jeff have u tried MARS japanese!!!
Yes Mars is fantastic! 🥃
Westland American Oak I could take it or leave it. Their Sherry Wood is a better drop in my opinion. Balcones make some good stuff but the pick for me as far as American Single Malts go is Westward. Myles Munroe does some very nice stuff.
Westward is out of Oregon , westland is in washington state
Westward cask strength is easily best single malt the US has
Really nice list. I agree that Paul John from India is worth looking into. I really like Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky. For Irish, Power 12 Year John Lane. New Holland Zeppelin Bend ASM and an ASM with smoke I would go with Andalusia Stryker Smoked Single Malt. Cheers!
I’m also a big fan of Powers John’s Lane. A 12 y.o. whose price hasn’t exploded.
The same enthusiasm for Indian whiskeys. Grab a bottle of the Paul John Christmas Edition (2023) if you can find one. Still available in my market (Los Angeles) for $70.00
I never connected with that Westland, for whatever reason. I found it to be too herbal and medicinal, almost like a glass of distilled eucalyptus leaves. Just me, could be batchy. In any case, cheers Geoff!
I like the Westland, although I admit it doesn't impress. Easy casual sipper with a bit of personality. But yeah it's certainly got some flavours that wouldn't work for all. Cheers! 🥃
macaloney's is great. Hard to find in the states but well worth it...surprised there's no indian on your list
Just did in a bottle of Indri a few weeks back. 🥃
What, no Indian? I picked up the Indri Trini about a month ago, and it's a flavor to savor.
Finished an Indri one not too long ago, actually. No Indian on the go currently. 🥃
Oops sorry for all the messages! All out of US Single malts. Need to replace 2 Westlands but mostly I buy scotch!!
I like trying world whiskies, but some countries can be difficult to get good stuff from at a reasonable price. I haven't seen Macaloney's or Balcones here. Luckily, we have our own local whiskies which are really good. Cheers!
You should try whisky from Brazil!
I've had it. Union is good! 🥃
India has a few great single malls
It does! 🥃
Hey Geoff! Long time fan here. Just wondering how you have so many bottles open? I usually am only opening 4 max because im worried the quality drops if I can't finish them in time. How long do you keep your bottles open before you chug them?
Compared to Nikka Coffey Malt, how is the Miyagikyo single malt NAS?
Too poor to buy Japanese....but my quality to value whisky is Bain's from South Africa. Cheap and cheerful.
I keep hearing about that one. Sadly not sold here. 🥃
no Kavalans?
Huh. I guess I will check out that 27 yr old Wiser in my local liquor store (Sweden) after all then. Always passed it by bc of "blend".. 81 american dollars - is that good?
Yes, very. I think you'll be impressed. Very robust and intense stuff. Don't expect much delicacy, though. 🥃
Amrut , indiri, and kavalans plz 🙏
Geoff, why do you have no Taiwanese Whisky? No Kavalan? Nantou? You live in Taiwan. 🇹🇼 I would assume you have access to Taiwanese whisky. It’s some of the best “World Whisky” with great single malts and amazing cask selection. I know you have done a Kavalan blind lineup in the past. Is it just you don’t have any open ones or do you avoid them?
I have three open bottles of Kavalan at my friend's, which is where we tend to gather most frequently. 🥃
Geoff... silly question... do they sell Taiwanese qw whisky in your market? Is it fairly priced?
Yes they do, and it is! 🥃
Wait! No Kavalan?
Where are all the other bottles in existence that you didn't include in here?
No India? They make and drink a lot of whisky.
.
Canada keeps all the good stuff.....yeah.....there is none. Change the rules Canada.
There is some. But agree... more stringent rules needed.
@@Gwhiskyyes agreed. All is not lost
I like Indian and Taiwan whisky ,but Scotch is better ))) Slainte Mhath !
