Great video. The reason Assault gets such a low rating, is its contribution level. Its a viable class, it can have good mob clearing. However when you compare it to the other classes. They contribute more.
Agreed bro! I honestly always sigh when I see an assault class. No matter how good you are as a player, a player at your level playing a heavy or tactical just brings way more to the whole squad. Obviously, with an even harder difficulty coming soon, I’m gonna bummed when I get paired up with bad assault players.
The real reason is that it's crippled until level 20+ then it gets great. But that's like 10-20 hours of gameplay just for it to be viable. And not really against chaos.
A big black mark on the class is it's jump pack. If it anywhere close to the performance it has in the campaign, people would love assault. It would still probably be outclass by the damned melta meta but it would be a lot more fun. The other factor is that everyone wants to use the Thunder Hammer and it's just not easy to use. Plus, the purple tier weapons blow IMO.
What is the problem with Assault class is that... it should be heavy melee class. You should be able to use jet pack more often (that is his main point) and to be able to generate armor/health with melee and not with a bolt pistol. He is supposed to be that crazy class that goes in FIRST, attack everything, destroys any semblance of organisation with the enemies, and keep fighting until other squad members come in. Right now he is... well you have to jump around and rely on your gun to gain armor and no way to gain health, also if.. IF you make a misstake in parry/dodge/block... you are as good as dead, as you probably do not have jet pack charge at that time, and you can't really jump over the rails and stuff... All in all, pretty limiting of what he is supposed to be. Can the class be played? Yes. Is it viable in some situations? very much so. Is it what Assoulter is supposed to be? Very much NOT. Saying that... Nice play. You had some serious good moves in the game :)
People think its bad because it IS bad. everything is relative to the other classes who can do more for less and don't have to be in de middle of a hoard in melee to do it. You played well in your video yet still got into constant trouble bc of how quirky the class is. It being usable on the highest difficulty doesnt mean that its good. You could barely stop that reinforcement call even though you were in the perfect position and played it perfectly, other classes just load one of their dumb things into it and it stops. Using your ability to perfect dodge has no synergy with using fencing weapons ( which you should be using btw this isn't your fault ) and the build only comes online when you are max level and have max level gear. THATS why people say its bad. not bc its not usable or not fun, bc it is. but because you have to heavily invest in something that is very clearly the worst option in the game in terms of how useful you are to the team/ completing the mission. And the grind to get there is just painful, other classes hit their stride MUCH earlier than assault. That being said, good video, I liked the slope movement tip for newer players as thats never explained. To fix the class its needs to do more damage, be able to swing faster, have the campaign/pvp jetpack and have the perks proc on parry instead of dodge. And maybe give it a bit more sustain in some way, maybe a small amount of health on kills.
@@chad2687 I think this is a fair take honestly and you have some really good points. I appreciate the compliments as well! I think for me personally my background comes from playing overwatch and maining doomfist and although he’s not meta/ able to have the most output in damage I find myself enjoying him due to mobility, lore, and high skill ceiling. I run mostly the same build, minus the last two perks. If you don't use the jump pack dodge, i don't think i saw one in the gameplay, then those are dead perks. They need to give the assault a major damage buff or damage reduction on ranged to be useful in chaos ops. As the ranged eats you up and your sustain being the gun strike armor isn't very helpful when rubric rarely toss an attack you can parry. And/or let it ignore shield status so you can delete the trazagors and punish the dual sword warriors.

When i first seen the class showcased i was like this class is go na suck, its been my main class i wouldve maxed the class out by now if the randoms werent bad and i usually have the most kills or stay alive the longest
I thoroughly enjoy Assault, it's a gun strike monster. It just suffers against Chaos enemies with all their ranged but truly shines with Ternids and their melee. Just my humble opinion.
you have good points. I still believe that assault is worst class in PvE. Optimal class composition for any mission is: tactical, sniper and heavy. But all classes can easily clear max difficulty. Some classes need high level to unlock full potential in perk tree.
It's supposed to be a mobile melee class class but is way overshadowed by the vanguard which can take the melta, is faster and is more mobile. So it can clear mobs or kill elites in seconds. The assault needs to jump higher and further AND cross gaps or barriers without being blocked by invisible walls which is so annoying.
I'll say this about assault, its flawed for sure but certainly not "bad" or at least not as bad as some have been raving on about, i have had some serious fun playing assault with the hammer, i agree its not what we expected but its still a blast to play
@BalancePK from my experience as I've tried both, the play style doesn't change too much. with assault starting off with a 50 percent increase to the perfect dodge window I just didn't see a point going too far with parrying
They think its so bad because they play it like an all-rounder instead of a specialist. Wing dive into two hordes with 6 terminus and no exit strategy? I'm dead already? This class sucks. It's a REALLY STRONG class if you play to its strengths instead of trying to play it like an airborne titan.
the biggest problem is the low melee damage all melee weapons do. right now if you want to be in melee range: just use a class with melta rifle. it out dps any melee attack
It's so frustrating - I'm a good assault player, don't really get downed and always support my teammates to protect them from dangerous melee units, interrupt reinforcement calls etc. But, even when I have an incredible run and spend the whole mission in combat killing constantly, my overall damage stats get dumpstered by heavies, tactical and melta vanguards. Melee just doesn't do enough. I don't blame people for not wanting an assault on their team on ruthless.
Small thing, but kills are meaningless, Damage is the "top frag" counter in a horde game You can get top kills by pilfering kills and executions off any other class, but if you have the most kills and least damage, you still contributed the least. Damage is everything
@@Paydirt90847 I think that’s a fair take honestly. I don’t disagree. I think for me I do enjoy executing enemies and/or having the mobilities to clean up kills. Like example genjis dash reset in overwatch you may not be doing too overall damage but securing kills does provide some value I like to think but I see the logic from your perspective.
This is actually an L take, because this game counts overkill damage. This is partially why melta weapons and Las Snipers can dominate damage charts. This can be easily observed once you realize what's happening. I can do solo ruthless runs on my bulwark and fishing with 300ish kills and I do like 15k damage total. I do the same run on heavy, same boss, very similar kill numbers, and I'm doing like 30k ranged damage. The bot numbers are almost identical, so where did all the extra damage come from? It's overkill damage. You are getting credit for functionally useless damage. So no, damage is NOT the way to measure anything in this game until they fix that. This is also likely the same mechanism that is contributing to the ability to overheal your contested health.
@@BalancePK Thats totally fair yeah, tbh so long as someone is contributing kills or damage dont really matter all that much regardless. This vid has been helpful btw, started my Assault run last night an though starting off felt a bit rough, it got easier very quickly. @@Paydirt90847 Yeah, that is just wildly incorrect. I just pointed out that you can easily get 15k worth of damage that literally does NOTHING to help the team or make anything die faster. Those high numbers are caused by AOEing into groups that contain a lot of minoris enemies and getting credit for damage anywhere from 2 to 3X their actual health pool. It is entirely worthless damage. If you are out damaging melta classes, it is because they are bad, not because you are good.
