More work by the Forestry Mulcher, clearing land on my property. Also some Root Grapple work by me. And I admit... I almost had a bad accident. I nearly flipped my tractor off my pond's dam.
I'll show you the "near disaster".
Watch my stupid mistake... and hear my wife's commentary.
    Take care,

I always have my rotary mower on the 3-point when I'm handling brush or front-end loads. Keeps it "sweet & balanced".

So true... gotta have that "ballast" on back

Always learn something from TP2. Good to know the way to recover when you push the equipment too far. By the way, your wife sounds like a total sweetheart. Of course, once she sees the "country" comment you might might get introduced to Ms. Iron Skillet. :)

Weld or drill and install a couple big hooks in the sides of your box scraper ends, then fill two old tires with some concrete and put a U-shaped piece of rebar in. You can pick up those tires using the 3-point lift and have good ballast that's easier and faster to install than messing with the mower. Also helps with weight if you need the ripper tines to work a little harder getting into hard soil. If you have access to scrap plate steel, works better yet.
One wheel off the ground - not a big deal. 2 - not yet a crisis, but time to assess how bad you want to be doing what you're doing. 3 - time to back off and find another approach. 4 - you just got the test prior to the lesson. :)

My wife is always panicky when I do stuff like that. I grew up messing around tractors and equipment so much like you did I just react and correct a problem without thinking about it. If you have to think about it that's when you get hurt.

Your tractor looks to be a bit bigger than mine but had a similar experience with too heavy a load. Fortunately I wasn't on a dam at the time, nice flat ground. Still a little unsettling when both hind wheels came right off the ground. Your forest mulcher was an interesting platform. I saw a bigger version near where I live. It was a 10 foot drum with round hammers mounted on a big pay loader. Power company was using it to keep trees down under the power lines. Worked great.

For that job I would have bucked the stump end and took it separate. Actually, if it were mine, I would have kept a good portion of that pretty cedar.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  7 лет назад

When I grabbed the load, I didn't think I had grabbed that much (although I could tell it was heavier than I had 'estimated' in my head). I had no idea that big cedar was in front, and no idea that it was sticking out so far on the right. Because the brush was so thick, I couldn't see the big tree at ALL.
Once I got on the dam and got in trouble, I couldn't go anywhere but back... so... I just pulled about 1/2 of the pile backwards and then I could go forward with the rest. Yes, bucking that long end would have been the SMART thing to do... but...
      :)

Three quick lessons I learn on a tractor.
      1. Always wear a hat. The one time I didn't, I was puttering around in 2nd gear and a wasp tried its best to either land on my face or sting me several times. After realizing their was no hat on my head for swatting, I jumped off the tractor.
      2. Never putter around in more than 2nd gear, because if you bail out, the tractor is easier to catch afterward.
      And finally.
      3. Never drag in reverse, anything with the bucket that the bucket can't lift and expect to turn. It will flip or tip the tractor...especially on a hill. Actually, that should be number 4; Think twice when maneuvering a loaded bucket on or near a hill.
I could write a bathroom reader of "Farm Quick Learned Lessons" or "Farmer's Guide to Being an Idiot".
